Chapter 7

Twinkle felt her heart stop. It seemed like even his voice was enough to have her frozen. Had he been here the whole time?

"Haan Twinkle. Pura waqt yahin tha," Twinkle turned around at his confession. A devious smile rested on his lips.

"Teri yeh aadat kab jayegi? Hamesha baat zuban aa jaati hai na teri?" Kunj said cheekily. Twinkle wished he wouldn't act so carefree with her. She wished, that he didn't act like nothing had happened. Yet he did. It seemed as if, io him, it was almost as if no time had passed; as if the three years they'd spent away hadn't even happened. And she wished she could ignore that "thing" as well. It stayed lingering in the back of her mind, a haunted sense of grief and guilt. She wanted him to shout at her, to scream profanities and curse her to the depths of tartarus. Why couldn't he do that? Why couldn't he just hurt her? Why did he have care for her so much?

"Tujhe dard mein nahi dekh pati hoon na iss liye," she'd done it again. Said everything she was thinking out loud. He took two big steps, arriving right in front of her. Twinkle hadn't realized the gap between them was so scarce.

"Abhi bhi?" Twinkle asked softly. She didn't know what happened to her when he came. All the restrain, that she'd ever practiced went down the drain all in one go. Her knees turned to jelly, and her feeling went flying all over the place. He had that effect on her; a terrifying effect that could potentially break down all the walls.

"Hamesha vala vada kiya tha na tujhse? Toh abhi tak hamesha khatam nahi hui?" Kunj said gently. His fingers went to touch her but something held him back. Perhaps it was anger or something more but Twinkle didn't want to find out. She'd long since realized that her jasoosi would only ever succeed in getting her into trouble. It had ever proved beneficial to anyone. It had only ever ceased to hurt somebody or to main them. Never had it givens someone happiness.

"Hamesha kab khatam ho ga?" Twinkle asked, not sure if her question even made sense.

"Hayye pagli. Hamesha kabhi khatam nahi hot. Marne ki baad bhi hamesha toh hamesh hi hai na?" Kunj said, his smile at it's peak.

"Pakka?" Twinkle asked. She didn't know why, she was doing this. Why she was asking for promises that she probably couldn't let him keep. He would try, no doubt about that but Twinkle couldn't let him.

"Pakka pagli," Kunj grinned.

"Pagli kisko kaha," Twinkle's old self was beginning to show now. The small hint of name-calling had triggered the playful side of her that had been shut off for who knew how long.

"Tujhe kaha. Aur kisko? C'mon Twinkle. Yahan aur koi toh nahi hai," Kunj said matter-of-factly.

"Kunj!!" Twinkle shrieked.

"Twinkle!!" he mimicked. In mock, despair Twinkle crossed her arms and turned around.

"Oh Sorry Twinkle. Main bhool gayyi. Tera naam toh pagli nahi ha na?" he paused, as of waiting for a reply, "tera naam toh Siyappa Queen. The master of all siyappas right?"

As fast as lightning, Twinkle whirled around. The smirk on Kunj's face, caused a whole new wave of irritation to sweep through her.

"Main itne bhi siyapaa nahi karti hoon Mr. Kadoos Sarna. Aur vaise bhi. Siyappa karna accha hai. Tumhari tarah khadoos hone se toh bethtar hi hai," she said ponitedly.

"Kitni outdated nam hai Twinkle. Kuch naya soch na," Kunj said, faking a yawn.

"Aur tumhara siyapaa queen toh bilkul updated naam hai na? 8 saal ho gayye hai darling. Koi naya sa nam nahi hai," Twinkle retorted.

"Original toh hai na? Duniya mein kitni ladkiyan hoge jo kisi ladke ko khadoos kehte honge lekin mere jaise kabhi kisi ne siyappa queen naam nahi rakha," Kunj raised his hands up in and odd-ish fashion.

"Oh hello. Original naam nahi, original main hoon. Meri jaisi ladki exist nahi karti hai na duniya mein, iss liye tum mere liye original naam nahi paaye," Twinke said factedly.

"Yeh accha hai. Naam mera aur idea bhi mera lekin credit tujhe. Wah Twinkle Taneja ky modesty hain?" Kunj said, shaking her hands mockingly.

"Thank you ji. Main toh hoon hi na modest aur pura ka pura humble bhi," Twinkle said twirling her hair.

"Itni bhi tarif mat kar khudki. Teri budaiyi karna bhi mujhe aati hai," Kunj said.

"Haan, haan woh toh main jaanti hoon. Tabhi toh tujhe khadoos jaisa naam diya hai. Kitna smart hoon na main?" Twinkle said with a honeysuckle smile.

"Ab brag kon kara rah hai?" Kunj asked, mimicry at its very best.

"Main koi brag, vag nahi kar rahi hoon. Main toh bas sach bata rahi hoon," Twinkle said teasingly.

"Vah Twinkle Taneja. Tu sach kehti hai. Duniya mein teri jaisi ladki toh kahi nahi milegi," Kunj clapped his hands, in mock admiration.

"Thank you, thank you," Twinkle took a fake bow.

"Baat khatam nahi ki abhi tak," Kunj said cheekily.

"Toh maine kab roka? Khatam karo," Twinkle said rather smugly.

"Duniya ki koi bhi ladki teri jaisi intni irritating nahi hogi," the smack hit Kunj right on the chest. Yet he merely laughed at her feeble attempt.

"Irritating? Main tumhe irritating lagti hoon?" Twinkle said, her eye flaring red, "tum na jealous ho!"

"Main jealous? Aur vo bhi tujh jaisi jhalli se? Never, Kunj said, crossing his arms over.

"Jhalli? Tumhe na insults ki dukaan khulni chahiye," - Twinkle.

"Compliment ke liye thank you, Ab bata main tujhse kyun jalti hoon?" - Kunj.

"Compliment nahi taht FYI. Aur tum mujhse iss liye jalti ho kyunki mein itni khoobsurat jo hoon." - Twinkle.

"Vakei mein to bahut khoobsurat hai," Kunj whispered under his breath.

"Kya?" Twinkle asked but she'd heard and it had made her heart flutter like never before.

"Maine kaha ki tune kabhi aaina dekha? Bhoot nazar nahi aayi?" Kunj said hurriedly.

"Mujhe aaina ki zaroorat nahi hai. Har ladka mujhse yehi kehta hai," Twinkle said, waiting for his reaction.

"Har ladka tujhse kya kehta hai?" Kunj asked, his previous smirk, replaced by a straight line.

"Ye hi ki main bahut sundar hoon aur ki main bahut pya--" she was cut off by Kunj pulling her into him. It seemed to have become a habit of his. She rested her hand on his chest, their faces about an inch away from each other. She studied his eyes, his lips, his everything. She'd missed it so much.

"Har ladka kehta hai, tujhe isse faraq parta hai?" he asked, ever so softly.

"Sirf tumhari baat ki faraq parta hai," Twinkle whispered back. What followed was a peaceful silence. Enhanced by each other's eyes, they let themselves be lost in each other. When Kunj broke the looming quiet, his voice came out raspy and breathless.

"Itna matter karti hoon tere liye, toh mujhe chhod ke kyun gaya Twinkle. Kyun mujhe aise akele chod ke gaya tu? Kyun gayyi Twinkle? Kyun?"

Na ehsaas hua, na hua iqraar,

Na huye dilon ka beech ka izhaar,

Na hue khatam ab tak yeh intezaar,

Too good. Kunj and twinkle are adorable. They such such a strong bond that even time can't defy it.
