That is all that I can think of when I see TwiNj in today's episode.
The way that Twinkle showed her will power and dedication in hoping for the best for her family; by jeopardizing her own health but still carrying through with her mannat... it's truly awe-inspiring. When Twinkle loves or dedicates herself to someone or even binds herself to a relationship, she fulfills it to the max. I have just understood this about her. Whether it's her relationship with her mother, with Yuvi, now with Kunj and his family or even with Babaji, she maintains and fulfills that relationship. She is absolutely loyal to it and will do just about everything and anything to uphold it.
The reason why I mentioned Yuvi is because, again, now I know why she was overlooking all his abuse. She was deeply in love with him and had hoped that her love would be able to change his ways and make him see the wrongness of his actions. But when that failed, yes she was hurt, but she didn't dwell on it. Rather, she focused her attention to someone who loves her unconditionally - her mother, Leela. Again yes, Leela is mad at Twinkle but that doesn't mean that her love for her has diminished in any way. Twinkle is still her daughter. Her one and only reason for being alive as of right now. There is nothing that Leela wouldn't do to protect Twinkle and vice versa.
What Twinkle demonstrated is not a physical bleeding but rather a spiritual and emotional one that has manifested itself in her sickness. It is hard to understand Twinkle as a character because her actions are always to the extreme. But that's who Twinkle is. She is an extremely passionate person who acts with full emotion.
Kunj, on the other hand, will be demonstrating a physical bleeding in tomorrow's episode, where his blood will fall upon Twinkle's head parting. This is extremely symbolic for so many different reasons. In today's episode we saw Kunj promising Twinkle that he will put her wishes before his; that he will support her in every thing no matter what they are up against; he is going to fulfill his duty as a husband to the fullest and isn't going to back down for any reason. He goes on to make the exact some promise to Leela in person, which again, is important.
Kunj will be demonstrating his respect, love, support, whatever you wish to name it, in the physical sense for everyone to see. He is going to be making a statement (and indeed he already has many times), that Twinkle is now his wife and he is going to be by her side till the day he dies. He is going to help her in sickness and in health, in times of perils and adversities, and in happiness and joy. He is her husband. I just cannot emphasize this more than enough.
Through his active actions he is portraying that yes, as a wife Twinkle has certain duties that she must follow. But being her husband, he too, has duties that he must follow. If they aren't already prescribed in tradition or in law, then he will make them up along the way but he will not let his wife face any struggles or hardships.
Same thing goes with Twinkle. Yes, she is a modern girl but she truly has not forgotten or disregarded Indian traditions or values. She may not know what to do or to help out, but she has her spirituality and her religion to help her. She can and will go to the gurdwara to do seva and pray constantly that everything will be okay for her family, regardless of how they treated her.
I wouldn't say that Twinkle is completely inactive as she does play a really significant role in maintaining peace and order in the Sarna household. However, in terms of TwiNj's relationship, I will say that she fulfills the role of the inner, emotional and spiritual/divine aspect of it. Kunj on the other hand, plays the outer role where he is the protector. In this sense, yes they are conforming to the socially constructed gender norms (man is the protector; stays in the public, woman is the emotional; stays in the domestic) but they are also bending the rules.
Kunj is rejecting the traditions that he believes are regressive towards women and is willing to undergo the same fasts and rituals so that he can be on the same level as Twinkle. Twinkle is also rejecting the notion that the man is the one who always has to act and make decisions. Her decision to call the police, to split up with Kunj and search for Ishaan, to throw away the bomb together with Kunj etc.
Now that they are both in this relationship, they will be treating each other as equals while maintaining their personal identities by being active participants. They may have gotten married unwillingly for their parents, but they have slowly evolved and reached a point where they refuse to be without each other. All their decisions have to be mutually taken, all their griefs and sorrows mutually shared, while their joy and happiness must be equally distributed.
They are no longer merely Kunj or Twinkle. They are now TwiNj, and they're going to remain like that till they die.
