Baaghi 4 crashes on Saturday
Chapter 26:
They all stand crowded around Neetha's bedroom door, waiting impatiently for what the Doctor has to say. After Neetha had fainted and Sanskaar took her to one of the guest rooms, Sanskaar quickly gave a Doctor who lives nearby a ring, and informed her about Neetha's condition. Currently she is checking up on Neetha. Ragini cries over worry for her sister, while Laksh mutely comforts her.
Sujatha: I don't understand anything... how did this happen to Neetha all of a sudden?
Sanskaar: Maa, we will find out in no time. (assuring her)
Swara stands next to Sanskaar, with her arms crossed against her chest, seemed lost in her own thoughts regarding about Neetha. Everyone continues to be silent and wait for any news. Minutes later the door opens and the Doctor appears with a nice smile on her face.
Doctor: It's nothing too serious... Neetha was just feeling weak due to not eating properly... It's important that she eats three meals a day and doesn't skip any.
Sujatha: (shocked) Neetha hasn't been eating?--- But that can't be. My Neetha wouldn't do something silly like that.
The Doctor just shrugs at this.
Doctor: That is something you need to discuss with your daughter, not me.
Laksh: (assisting her out) Thank you, Doctor. Come, I will show you the way out.
Sujatha and everyone else enter the room, where they find Neetha sitting up on the bed, with the covers over her, looking still a little weak. Her mother sits besides her on the bed.
Sujatha: Neetha, what is this that I'm hearing? -- You haven't been eating properly?
Ragini: Neetha, this isn't right. You have to eat.
Dadi: Arre, first of all, tell us all why you have been skipping your meals?
Uttara: How can you do something so foolish, Neetha?
Swara: Please, everyone, be quiet. Give Neetha some room to breathe. You all are attacking the poor girl with questions.
Sanskaar: Hmm, Swara's right. The last thing that Neetha wants is to be interrogated.
Neetha smiles softly at this.
Neetha: Thank you... at least some people are willing not to jump down my throat.
Sujatha: Why, Neetha? At least tell us that much.
Neetha looks sheepishly at her mother.
Neetha: I thought that I'd lose a little weight... so I've been dieting for awhile.
Sujatha: And skipping out on meals is dieting for you?
Neetha: I'm sorry, Maa... I didn't think it'd be that bad for me.
Ragini: (angry) Who told you that you need to lose weight?!--- You are absolutely beautiful the way you are!
Neetha: (tired) Diii...
Sanskaar: Ragini, let it go. I think Neetha's learned her lesson. We should all leave and let her rest a bit. We'll wake her up when it's time for Dinner.
Ragini: But---
Sujatha: Haan, Sanskaar is right. We should all go. Chalo. Everyone out. --- Neetha, take some rest.
Neetha: Ji, Maa.
After leaving Neetha's room, everyone goes down to the living room where they sit down, not knowing what else to do. Laksh joins them, where Ragini informs him of her sister.
Samar: So, should I go and find a movie for us to watch?
Ragini: Samar. (disbelief) You are going to watch a movie after what just happened?
Samar: Dii, you are worrying to much. Neetha isn't on her deathbed. She just hasn't been eating properly. She'll get better now with everyone on her case... So what will it be--- horror, comedy, action?
Ragini shakes her head at her brother.
Laksh: Ragini, Samar is right. It's nothing to be worried about. Your sister is fine. She just needs to eat and get some rest, that's all... I'm in for horror.
Dadi: I'm not sure if we have any Hindi horror films here.
Everyone laughs at Dadi.
Uttara: Dadi, I think Samar's talking about English movies... not Hindi.
Dadi: Par---
Samar: Come on Dadi, try something new... take a break from Bollywood and give Hollywood a chance.
Samar: Di?
Ragini: Samar, I don't want to watch a movie.
Samar: Suit yourself... but I'd suggest you watch one with us, because there's nothing else to do and you'll die from boredom.
Thinking about this for a minute, Ragini reluctantly agrees.
Ragini: (shrugs) chick-flick...
Laksh: There is no way that we, men are going to watch a chick-flick, kyon Sanskaar?
Sanskaar makes a face at the idea. Chick-flicks were cheesy and corny. He prefers horror, comedy, or action...Anything really, but a chick-flick.
Sujatha: Chick-flicks are good, Laksh. If only you men would give it a chance, then you'd agree also.
Samar: Uttara (giving her a sleezy smile) what are you in for?
Uttara: (disgusted) ...Horror.
Laksh: Sanskaar, what are you in for?
Sanskaar: Anything yaar, but a chick-flick.
Laksh: Swara?
Swara: (uncertain) Comedy?
Sanskaar smiles approvingly at her choice, pleased with how she didn't pick chick-flick.
Samar: Dadi?
Dadi: (upset, stubborn) I'm still for Bollywood.
Samar: Okay, well I'm for Horror. So let's count, shall we? ...Two chick-clicks. 1 comedy. 1 whatever, but chick-flick. And three horror. So horror wins.
Sujatha, Ragini, Dadi, and even Swara groan.
Sujatha: Arre, I'm going to get nightmares at night.
After a couple minutes of searching, Samar finds the perfect movie and pops it into the DVD player. He goes back to where he was sitting, which was on the floor with Uttara, who sneers at him and looks away. Sujatha and Dadi are seated in a love chair. While the rest-- Ragini, Laksh, Sanskaar, and Swara sit on the long couch together.
As the DVD starts playing, Samar wraps an arm around Uttara, excitedly. He was looking forward to the movie, girls usually get scared from horror movies and he was sure that Uttara would cling to his side throughout it. Angrily Uttara pushes him aside.
Uttara: You duffer, the movie hasn't even started yet and you are already acting all protective. Hmph. Stay away from me.
Samar just smiles to himself, ignoring her words.
An hour passes by into the movie and everyone is equally absorbed into it and some are even frightened. Sujatha and Dadi hold onto one another and question themselves as to why they even agreed to watch the movie in the first place. Laksh has fun teasing his wife as she continues to scream every five seconds. Uttara tries her best not to laugh as Samar clings on to her for dear life, frightened for his life. "And the idiot wanted to protect me," she thinks to herself while chuckling.
Sanskaar finds it hard to concentrate on the movie with Swara holding onto his hand occasionally, scared with what's happening in the movie. He watches her close as her eyes are glued onto the TV's screen, open wide with terror. He has to fight with himself with not laughing at how adorably cute she looks at the moment. Again she squeezes his hand tight as she closes her eyes from the bloody scene. The women in the room gasp, minus Uttara, and including Samar.
Sanskaar rests his head against his hand, his elbow on the edge of the couch, as he stares at his wife with a laughing smile. He squeezes her hand back, comforting her.
Sanskaar: It's only a movie...
Swara continues to keep her eyes shut and whispers back to him...
Swara: Which is based on a true story...
Sanskaar: Hmm... true... But it happened years ago.
Swara: Tho?... It can happen again... (shaking to herself)
Sanskaar: I doubt it...
Hearing loud screeching coming from the movie, Swara instantly hides her face into Sanskaar's chest out of fright, whereas everyone else screams. Sanskaar, shocked by this gesture at first, takes a few seconds to recover and brings a hand to her back, protectively.
Sanskaar: (grinning, whispering) You didn't even have your eyes open... how did you get scared?
Swara's voice comes out in muffles, due to her face being buried into his chest.
Swara: (childishly) ...the noise... it scared me.
Sanskaar chuckles silently.
Sanskaar: You can open your eyes now, Swara... It's gone.
Swara shakes her head in a negative, and continues to grip onto him.
Swara: I don't want to see it.
Hearing everyone else scream further scares Swara and she continues to hug her husband for comfort.
Swara: (quietly) Tell me when it's over...
Sanskaar: It's been over...
Swara: I mean the movie...
Sanskaar: (laughing) So you aren't going to watch the rest?
Swara shakes her head.
Swara: I'd rather die than watch anymore.
This has Sanskaar laughing even more at her childish talks. No one seems to pay them any attention since they are too absorbed with the movie and fearing for their lives. Sanskaar let Swara hug the life out of him throughout the next hour...
Sanskaar: Swara?
Swara: ...Hmm?
Sanskaar: You might want to let go of me otherwise everyone will be thinking that husband and wife chose the opportunity to romance throughout the film.
Confused, Swara looks up at him and finally realizes what she had been doing. Blushing bright as a tomato, she quickly pulls herself away while Sanskaar just chuckles at her. She watches as the lights turn on and everyone moves out of their spots to stretch from being in the same position for two hours.
Dadi: I have been scarred for life.
Samar: Come on, Dadi, it-it wasn't that bad.
Uttara: Yes, Dadi, listen to the boy who screamed every second and has made me deaf in my left ear.
Sujatha: I think I had experienced six heart attacks in total from watching it.
Laksh: (laughing) Maa, don't worry. It's not real.
Ragini: Laksh, it says on the front cover that it's based on a true story!
Uttara: (turning to look at Swara, who just got up from the couch) Di, you weren't scared, were you?
Before Swara can even reply, Sanskaar cuts in.
Sanskaar: Of course not, Uttara. Your Swara Di is a brave woman. She wouldn't get scared of a fake story that is played by horrible actors, right Swara?
Swara just blushes in response and brushes off his teasing wink.
Laksh: Alright, it's pretty late and we should all go eat dinner before it gets cold.
(Shambu was cooking dinner while they were all watching the movie.)
Sujatha: Haan, chalo.
Everyone made their way towards the dining table to eat. Neetha joined them after being awoken by Sujatha. She was fussed over by everyone, who piled her plate with piles and piles of food.
Chapter 27:
Laksh says as they all sit outside in the back yard with chairs and benches, bored.
Laksh: Sleep. Put an end to this day.
Neetha: Jiju, you can't go to sleep right after eating dinner. You have to wait at least two-three hours before doing that. Your food has to be digested properly.
Sujatha: Then what do we do during that time?
Neetha: What about a game---
Everyone groans on hearing this.
Laksh: Please, Neetha, not another game.
Neetha: Arre, it's a very simple game and we don't even have to get up and get around. Promise!
Dadi: We might as well play since there isn't anything else to do. Accha, Neetha, tell us. What kind of game is it?
Neetha: (simply) Antakshari.
Samar: Antakshari?
Neetha: Yes, why not?
Dadi: Arre, I like the idea. Kyun, Sujatha?
Sujatha: Haan haan Maaji, even I am willing to play.
Neetha: So is everyone in?
Everyone else hesitantly agree after a lot of persuasion from Neetha, who doesn't buy any of their excuses of not being able to sing well or having no knowledge of songs.
Neetha: Okay, so I will be team captain. Who else wants to be captain?
Samar: I guess I will be.
Neetha: Okay, so I get to go first in picking... Uh, I want Bhabhi in my team.
Swara, startled, looks over to a smiling Neetha, who gestures her to come and sit besides her.
Samar: Uh...I want...
Samar looks over to Uttara, who glares at him, warning him that if he picks her-- she will kill him. He purposely skips her, not wanting to make it obvious to everyone about how he likes her.
Samar: Bhaiya.
Neetha: ...Jiju.
Samar: ...Uttara.
Uttara, angered, gets up from her spot and joins Samar's side, but then instantly smiles as she sees that her brother-in-law is on her team. Sanskaar and Uttara share a smile and she sits next down to him.
Laksh joins his sister in law's team and sits besides Swara, who smiles pleasantly at him and he wraps an arm around affectionately.
Neetha: Dadi!
Samar: Hey! Not fair! -- You've got the filmy.
Neetha: You snooze, you lose. (sticks out her tongue at him)
Samar: (grumpily) Fine... Maa.
Ragini becomes slightly angry at being the last one left.
Neetha: Errr... Didi, I would pick you... but then it'd become unfair. 5 versus 4.
Sujatha: Why don't we do this? -- Ragini comes over to our side. Neetha, your
team has Maaji so that's a strong advantage over our team.
Neetha: Teek hai... That sounds fair. Besides I don't want there to be a smack down over on my side with both of them together.
Everyone laughs and agrees on this. Ragini grumpily joins her brother's team.
Neetha: Okay, so shall we start?
Dadi: Neetha, our team starts because we have four people.
Sujatha: That sounds fair. Go ahead, Maaji.
Neetha: Alright. Everyone has to sing one song, got it?! You can't have one person singing the whole time! There's no fun in that.
Dadi:
Duniya Mein Logon Ne Dil Apane Phirta Hai
Aaya Hoon Lekar Main Phir Kitne Hangaamen
Zara Dekho Kaun Aa Gaya Hai
Zamane Pe Jo Chha Gaya Hai
Jami Jispe Sab Nigaahen
Khuli Kiski Khaatir Hai Baahen
Aaisa Dildaar Aaya Hai Kaun
Mujhko Pehchaan Lo Main Hoon Don
Everyone silently laughs at Dadi's song and the way she sings it so cheerfully.
Dadi: N...
Samar's team members look at each other, trying to figure out what song to sing.
Neetha: Remember, you only have 5 seconds!
Quickly Samar sings...
Samar:
Nasha ye pyaar ka nasha hai
Ye meri baat yarrow maano
Nashe mein yaar doob jaao
Raho na hosh mein deewa...
As Samar sings, he directs eye messages to Uttara, who suddenly seems to be drifted off in a world of her own...
Samar: A! There was nothing in the rules saying to finish the song. So ...A!!
Laksh:
Abhi mujh mein kahin
Baaki thodi si hai zindagi
Jagi dhadkan nayi
Jaana zinda hoon main toh abhi
Kuch aisi lagan iss lamhe mein hai
Yeh lamha kahaan tha mera
As Laksh sang for his team, Sanskaar quietly stole looks over at Swara, who remained mutely sitting besides Laksh, looking down. He felt a little agitated at her for keeping her eyes down. He badly wanted her to look up at him...
Laksh: R!!!
Samar's team once again wonders about what to sing...and they only had five seconds. Uttara, who was reminded of Neil by the romantic hindi songs, sang dazedly...
Uttara:
Raah mein un se mulaakaat ho gayee
Jis se darate the wahee baat ho gayee...
Samar smiles on hearing her lovely voice singing. Sanskaar smirks to himself as he catches the lost dazed look on his Sali's face as she sang meaningfully.
Uttara: ...E...
Neetha:
Ek do teen, char paanch che saath aath nau, dus gyarah, barah tera
Tera karoon, tera karoon din gin gin ke intezaar,
Aaja piya aaye bah...
Neetha: H!!!
Laksh: (teasingly) Hmm... and who are you talking about?
Neetha: (hastily) No one.
Sanskaar: (joining in on the teasing, eyeing his sister) Are you sure? You have anyone in mind?
Neetha: Arre no!
Laksh: It certainly doesn't seem like that... with the way you were singing..
Sujatha: Arre stop it already you two. Don't mess with the poor girl.
Sanskaar and Laksh laugh at this and so does everyone else, while Neetha's cheeks flush.
Neetha: Anyways... H... Go Di...
Ragini: Me?
Neetha: Yes, you!
Ragini: But I don't know any songs...
Neetha: There are millions of songs out there...the letter's H! ...Come on! Okay fine, ten seconds for you since you are slow...
Ragini struggles with coming up with a song, but then seems to find one instantly as her eyes land on Swara, who sits opposite from her.
Ragini:
Hai agar dushman
Hai agar dushman (dushman)
Zamana gum nahin, gum nahin
Everyone looks over at Ragini, knowing very well who she is singing the song for. Swara remains quiet, not saying anything and choosing to ignore her sister-in-law. Dadi looks from Swara to Sanskaar and sings a song for them, happily... she had been noticing the nice change in them... Everyone had.
Dadi:
Na jaane mere
Dil ko kya ho gaya
Abhi to yahin
Tha abhi
Kho gaya
Ho gaya hai tujhko to pyar sajna
Laakh kar le tu inakaar sajna
Diladaar sajna
Hai yeh pyaar sajna
Dadi: A!
Sujatha:
Aaja aaja aaja aaja ho
Aaja aaja piya ab toh aaja
Dekh to kaisi haalat hui hain
Aake humko gale se laga ja
Tujhse milne ki chahat hui hain
Aaja aaja piya ab to aaja
Dekh to kaise haalat hui hain
Laksh:
Na jiya zindagi ek pal bhi
Tujhse hoke judaa sun zara
Bin tere mujhse naaraz tha dil
Tu milla hai toh hai keh raha
Main toh tere rang mein rang chuka hoon
Bas tera ban chuka hoon
Mera mujh mein kuch nahi
Sab tera...
Uttara:
Rootha kyun
Mujhse khafa na hona itna tu
Saansein bhi tere bina main na lu
Jaane kyun bevajah
Hoo..
Rehne de
Teri mohabbaton mein rehne de
Tere Khwabon mein mujhe behne de
Aisa hone de...
Dadi:
Ilu
Ilu ilu
Yeh ilu ilu kya hai yeh ilu ilu
Jab baag mein koi phool khila to bhanvre na kaha
Ilu ilu
Parvat pe chhayi kaali ghata to boli hawaa
Ilu ilu
Jab koi accha lagtahai bada pyaara pyaara lagta hai
To dil karta hai
Ilu ilu
Yeh ilu ilu kya hai yeh ilu ilu
Ilu ka matlab I l you I l you
Ilu ka matlab I love you I love you
Hey I love...
The teams went back and forth, but not once did either Sanskaar or Swara sing. Realizing this after awhile, Neetha spoke...
Neetha: Bhaiya! Bhabhi! I had told everyone before, nah? That EVERYONE has to sing! So that means, EVERYONE!
Sujatha: Haan, this isn't fair that we all have to sing and you to easily get to sit back and relax.
Neetha: Bhabhi, it's our team's turn so you have to sing for us, okay?
Swara: Lekin Neetha
Neetha: No "buts"! ... The letter is A...
Swara frowns, whereas Sanskaar smiles on seeing his wife being put on the spot. He wonders about what she is going to sing.
Neetha: Bhaiya, be ready because it's your turn after Bhabhi's. And remember, you only have five seconds.
Sanskaar: You don't worry about me, Neetha. Let your Bhabhi sing first...
Swara looks over at Sanskaar and tries her best with controlling her oncoming blush.
Swara:
Aye mere humsafar ek zara intezaar
Sun sadaayein de rahi hain manzil pyar ki (x2)
Jisko duaaon mein maanga
Tu hai wahi rehnuma
Tere bina mushqil hai
Ek bhi kadam chalna (x2)
Bin tere kahaan hai manzil pyar ki
It was now Sanskaar's turn, but he seems to be dumbstruck and freezes. He's too overwhelmed by her beautiful voice singing those lyrics and the way her big doe like eyes never left his. Their eyes continue to lock while everyone counts down with enthusiasm, "Five...four...three...two...one!"
Sanskaar continued not to say anything, finding himself speechless and absolutely blank. He sees how her eyes light up with joy on winning and curses himself for once again losing to her.
