Like many of you here, I personally feel Teju was simply brilliant as negative Ragini...and not just the acting...the dialogues, the characterization everything made for a very compelling Ragini! She was hands down one of the most disturbing negative characters on TV...oscillating between black and grey with her lovely face and such pure innocence and committing down right horrible crimes one after the other in her quest and desperation for unrequited love! Her portrayal combined with the cat and mouse game that Swara and Sanskar played with her to unmask her, made for great TV viewing (and high TRPs). Ragini and Sanskar were the best written parts during that period...they had the best dialogues. So many of you have mentioned Ragini's dialogue...'mohabbat buri'...its hard to forget how good Teju was in those scenes. The way she begged forgiveness from her mother and sister and kept on harming them and falling deeper and deeper into the quagmire made one feel so disgusted yet so sorry for her at the same time. And one could see she was mentally unbalanced by her obsession for Lakshya and his repeated use-abuse of her.
Of course it was obvious that she had to be redeemed at some point and made to realize her mistakes...but to redeem a complex character like Ragini required brilliant writing. Sanskar's redemption was handled brilliantly...in fact his character graph has been the best in the show so far and his character and the Swasan love story has been handled beautifully! So I had high hopes that they would be able to do at least some justice to Ragini also. Her redemption should have been gradual and Lakshya should have fallen out of love with Swara and in love with Ragini slowly as she unwound her journey from the negative mess she had landed herself in. Instead we got Malkin, Kavya, a hurried jail track and lo and behold they are both positive and in love. I totally agree that Ragya have a very good chemistry and they could sizzle (as much as Swasan😉) if only most of us could relate to them. The angst and desperation that Lakshya should have gone through for Ragini and her realization that his love was toxic for her soul, should have been handled with care and subtlety. Then they should have rebuild the bridge towards each other from the ashes of their realizations, instead of accepting each other in one shot... bad bad handling.
Why are Swasan so compelling...because Sanskar went through hell and back to win his love...and Swara realized the hard way what he meant for her. The CVs lost the plot after the malkin track...
Ragini does not have to go negative again...all she needs is a good story line instead of being the lesser half of the Swaragini duo...assistant detective to Swara's Byomkesh!! They are over doing the sisterly bond now so we can connect to them as we did in the beginning of the show, which is very difficult. What is needed is a balanced story line where the focus can be on the two couples and their journey while the sisterly bond can serve as a background instead of being shoved down our throats all the time at the cost of completely sidelining the other halves of the two sisters. Sanskar's character was the most relatable and realistic among all four...now he is a prop to the sisters who comes alive now and then. Lakshya is just a wall decor anyway.
Hindi serial makers have such a dearth of ideas that to expect them to do justice to both couples is like asking for the moon. But yes, llike some of you, I feel the memory track can be like a shot in the arm needed to revive the show and the love story of both the couples can start afresh. They need to take it slow, not introduce any random idiotic villains/vamps but let the situations be the hurdles and let all four blossom in their respective roles. Varun, Teju and Helly are brilliant and can bring so much to the scenes given the scope. Namish has his limitations as an actor, but he seems to be improving and his comic timing ain't so bad. So use them properly Cvs. Let's hope for the best...
