Indian dramas showcase Hindu weddings in a very loose way. I always thought that saptapadi (sacred fire circling ritual) where the promises are made and blessings are seeked and the groom addresses the bride whilw the mantras are being chanted -was the most important and ancient ritual of all to mark the most critical step of the ceremony . Sindoor was added much later and more of a symbolic gesture to declare the completion of the ceremony.

I could be wrong here and indeed there are many local customs and variations but I was just looking at the scriptural reference.

Of course in reality even traditional marriage need legal proof.

This I guess was just to show the emotional impact (esp. On swara) and transition of a "unreal marriage" to "almost real marriage".

Exactly
Swara loved lucky but she lacked emotional bonding with him
When he married ragz she didn't fight for instead she accepted her sister s obsession and wanted to reunite her parents only who got separated by lies of ragz
Swara needs a push feel love
At first it was lucky who confessed his love.
To make realizes her friend ship with lucky is more than being friend s
And sanakar he filled her maag. Making swara emotionally depend on her so called husband.
Like someone said earlier it is license to love without past guilty feelings

I will have to digress on that point. It is when two people marry without the complete rituals of phere, mantras and all and start living together as husband and wife.

Dushyant married Shakuntala via Gandharva vivhaha.

No particular day is needed. The one with phere and mantras is the brhaman/shastra vivaha and another type is the rakshas vivah in which the girls consent is not there.

Rakshas or Pisach Vivaha is actually date-rape, as per the definition.

Exactly that is why it is called the rakshas or demon marriage and is considered a sin while gandharva marriage is not

Sonal Debo matlab tu meri baat kar rahi hai kya?m Bengali hamare yaha Mangalsutra nehi pehnaya jata hai..hamare yaha phere hote hai...wedding complete hoti hai Sindoor say...I remember by Kaki( who is like my elder sister bcz ye jo mera uncle hai unke sath bachpan se khlte hue bari hui hu..they are like elder brother and they don't like it if I call them uncle) said the moment maang main Sindoor bhara jata hai aisa lagta hai jaise apna ghar chut gaya..akhon main asu aa jate hai bcz Sindoor lagte hi esa lagta hai k apna family ab apna nehi raha paraye ho gaye hai...So hamare yaha Bengali's me Sindoor is more important then Phera...Sindoor pehnaye bina shadi complete nehi hoti aur Sindoor se mang bhar ke hi shadi complete honeka announcement hota hai..😆

there are lot's of different types of marriages..Gandharva vivah is similar to today's Love Marriage...where both the boy n girl love each other and get married on their own wish..Rakshasa Vivah is the cheapest kind of Vivah and it is a disgrace to the women...in this type of Vivah not only the Man kidnapped the girl but also get physical with her first then marry her...that's why it's Called Rakshasa Vivah...it was always a big crime...

I am a marwari... We don't have mangalsutra rasam... And not even pheras... We have 4 pheras around the fire and 3 are mama pheras... In mama pheras, the mama holds the bride and circle around the groom 3 times.. Mama pheras happens first and then the couple sit in the mandap.. Then the actual pheras and sindoor..
