His face gets blackened for something he or his son didn't do?

He's got nothing to do with all this, but he still has to bear the brunt of it?

Why?

^^The same way he'd humiliated the Gadodias in front of the whole world for no fault of theirs. And disenfranchised them from the Marwari "samaj".

So Dadi stooped to his level? I don't know the rules and so of a Marwari Society but at that point in time Maheshwari had a weakness of the Gadodias (Shekhar's illegitimate child) that compelled him to do what he did. Now, however narrow minded an action it may be, he still has to set an example as the head of society.

Had it been a false alarm and Swara wasn't Shekhar's child, then his actions would've been the same as dadi's in this situation - completely wrong. But it wasn't. In this situation, Lakshya had done nothing that gave others the right to malign his dad.

After reading what I've just written, I think a friendly disclaimer is required here: I DO NOT agree with the sentiments of any of the characters in this show. I'm merely explaining my opinion.

She'd always belonged to that level, so no question of 'stooping'.

I'm sorry, but are you serious? Public humiliation accompanied by physical violence, it was a freaking CRIME, and not merely a "narrow minded action".

You seem to be suggesting that Durga Prasad's crime was somewhat more 'justified' in comparison to Dadi's (note that I said IN COMPARISON TO), and that's a bit baffling.

Hi sorry to butt in but I don't think Laila was trying to justify DP's crime from before just saying that there was a, according to their conservative society laws, a crime that shekhar had committed- have a love child. But Laksh actually hasn't committed the crime that DP's family is humiliated for. I think that's what she's trying to say? That in accordance to crazy Maru So laws, the punishment given go shekhar's fam was in line with tradition. But for DP it wasn't, cod Laksh hasn't done what he was accused of. This wasn't a comparison of whether the punishment was befitting the crime in the Gadodias instance or whether any samaj even has the right to intervene in a persons life on such a personal level or take the law in their own hands.

Ps Laila I hope my interpretation of your views isn't out of whack.

Thank you to both of you for your comments.

First of all, I do not agree with insulting a family for a mistake done 20 years ago. But had it been a crime, as you believe, I'm sure people would have stepped forward to prevent it, there would've been police in on the scene or even later. In that situation, Ragini knew that the police were not going to go against Maheshwari, so she did what made Sharmishta and Swara out of blame. Accepted them to be family.

I just don't find the situations in which Gadodias and Maheshwari were blackened to be the same. There was a difference which made me disagree with dadi's actions. Please rread my disclaimer. I'm merely telling you why I believe someone to be right and/or wrong.

And Tejaswini, I don't know why but I feel like you've got my back in this "virtual world" of Swaragini. Thanks for that. 😊 And your interpretation is completely on whack. āļø

Tejaswini and Laila: In my opinion, Dadi thought that Laksh has indeed committed the crime, so by that logic, she is justified in blackening his face. Or is it otherwise? I'm yet to watch the episode. Did Dadi know that Lakhsya is innocent or did she presume that he had committed the act?
Also, Laila, yeah, it is a crime, as per Indian Penal Code Sections 503 and 506. But you're correct that the Police wouldn't have taken any action against the Maheswaris since they are the proverbial "vade log". But then, if we go by the Police taking or refraining from action, then most of India's corrupt politicians are blemish-free. Murderous Khap Panchayats are also let off the hook by the Police, but that doesn't take away from the heinousness of their acts.

P.S. Just saying, people nowadays don't "step forward" even when somebody is being molested or mugged in public.
