What is Karan's problem exactly?

Hey guys,
I am new here and just started watching the show. I wanted to know what disease or psychological issue does Karan have? Why does he carry the umbrella all the time and why does he hate being touched? I am totally confused here.

i think someone mentioned he had skin sensitivity to light ...maybe the disease is spreadable to others?...lets see
