karna is known and praised for his loyalty to duryodhana, what irks me is that in sony karn, karn doesn't seem to have any inner conflict. duryodhana forcefully abducts bhanumathi, karn feebly tries to stop him, but the moment Arjun steps forward to defend bhanumati from being abducted duryodhana simply calls to karn as a dog, and with out the slightest hesitation karn jumps to defend his Master opps!!! friend. its like all karna thinks of is fighting with Arjun for any reason what so ever. irrespective whether it is just or not? or the situation calls for it or not?. is only goal is to prove he is better archer then Arjun, baki log bhad main jaye.
this karn is a far cry for the nobel karn of his youth. who had a clear idea of justice and injustice.

many people love the character of karna from the mahabharata, and even sympathise with him. his loyalty and generosity is truly applaudable, but he could never be venerated for his righteousness. he was doomed to never be the hero. and despite all his good virtues would always fall short off Arjun.

ps:-i love gautam rode but i;m really surprised that he chose to portray such a character. unlike his previous roles of saras and rudra, he seems too loud and over the top

karn blind loyalty to Duryodhan will be one of the reason of his downfall..

I'm finding him more a follower of Duryodhan than a friend. This is just a first but even later he won't budge from this blind loyalty..Anyways dont know as creatives..writer showing him too good to be true.karn was a complex character with many layers in his personality..Good..humble but also the grey shade...

As its said a man's destiny lies in his Karma and Karn was somehow a man trapped in a doomed destiny..

What you said is absolutely right. It is all in the hands of creatives. Regarding Gautam choosing this character is the shades this character have. Any performer will die to take this character. I am seeing Gautam as Karn here that too the creatives' Karn 😉

yes karn is a very good character to play, and in looks gautam suites the role, but his portrayal of karna seems confusing, karn of the mahabharata was a character in constant conflict with himself, torn between his conscious and his loyalty to duryodhana. this karn doesn't seem to have any conflict within him. all he does jump when duryodhan calls and shake with rage at the sight of Arjun, and mouth loud dialogues of challenges. he seems just like an extension of duryodhana, rather the karna the great character of mahabharata who was a driven, tormented conflicted and doomed man, as a result of his circumstances and choices.
gautam doesn't make me feel for karn the character.

I haven't watched the past 2 episodes yet, but I realize the writer's painting Karn in broad strokes. There are no layers/shades at all to his character...all he does is rage, act like Dury's sevak more than a friend, get romantic or give bhashans. His inner turmoils and emotional conflicts or clashing ideologies haven't been explored much so far..
Gautam is a very good actor otherwise, but it's safe to say mythology is not his strong point at all. Not everyone can pull off everything with elan.

Please I wanna ask you something. Are you referring to the real Karna or the Karna of the show? And I wanna tell you something too.

1-Most of the Karna fans empathise with him.Not sympathise. There is a difference.

2-Really,righteousness??? Was Arjun an epitome of righteousness then?Arjun won Draupadi in the Swayamvar but could not fight his mother when she said that he had to share her with his five brothers. He did not even stand up to protect his wife when she was gambled away and insulted,.Why?Because he was bound by his duty towards his mother and brother. And as far as righteousness is concerned,no one was righteous in the Mahabharata.Every character was flawed.

3-Perhaps you haven't read the Mahabharata. Then, you would have known that there was no hero or villain in that epic.Every character had their own set of flaws.

4-Let me tell you one thing. Both Karna and Arjun were human beings. Both had their shortcomings.Arjun, for example, was insecure and jealous.

5-And lastly, the problem is not with the character of Karna. The problem is with the manner in which the character is written.Karna was never this loud.

6-The character of Karna is complicated and fascinating. It has many shades to it.It depends on the ability of the actor to portray it.

They should have shown the supposed war between karna's head and heart when he supported duryodhana and the voice of his heart prevailing over his conscience .And here it seems that the karna-duryodhana friendship is not true but duryodhana befriended karna only for his own selfish motives which is far from true,or at least that is what i think.

your right i never read the mahabharata the why it was originally written, just various versions of it, mythofiriction, short stories about the characters and their deeds. and i am talking about the karn of the serial. and not the karn of the heroic stories i've read, i seen BR chopra's and Star Mahabharat. in fact many years ago there was even a serial on doordarshan, titled Maharathi Karn, but that went off air suddenly. but even from what i remember karna was a conflicted character, driven and struggling constantly between his loyalty to his friend and his conscience. that i dont see in this karna.
and yes i do get it that all the characters were not totally righteous, not even lord krishna yet compared to karna they were more righteous.

and as for arjun giving in to his mothers wishes and sharing draupadi with his brothers, it was a grievous sin and amoral. but it was dhrupadi destiny her life was her karmabhumi, she was the instrument of the gods to bring about the destruction of the kuru race. the dice hall was the foundation stone for the beginning of the destruction. yes if such things happened in this day and age, arjun would have been the worst husband and man.

but in the mahabharata this verse says it all

nArAyaNam namaskrutya naranchaiva narOttamam |
dEvIm sarasvatIm vyAsam tatO jayamUdIrayEt ||

Bowing to Narayana (Krishna), to the greatest of men Nara (Arjuna), to Goddess Saraswati, and to Vyasa, let Mahabharata be told thereafter.

There is nothing to suggest that the Pandavas were anywhere in the scene when Duryodhan decided to disrupt the swayamvara of the princess of Kalinga. This episode took place even b4 the house of lac - since one of the participants in that swayamvara was Satadhandwa - the guy who murdered Satyabhama's father Satrajit. Other suitors mentioned there included Jarasandha, Rukmini's father Bheeshmaka and so on.

Chances are that this took place during the year that the Pandavas were @ Varnavarta.

Interestingly enough, while Duryodhan abducted this princess and as a result, she was forced to marry, Duryodhan got his payback when his own daughter Lakshmanaa was abducted by Krishna's son Samba at her swayamvara. Balarama saw to it that he got freed, and then got her.
