Part 12 ' Let's Take a Break
The ride to the bar was uncharacteristically silent. It was never quiet when Dean and Emery were within hearing distance of each other. No one said a single word and Dean didn't even put on any music. He did keep looking at Emery through the rear-view mirror though. She was staring out her window the entire time.
Sam entered the bar while Dean and Emery were just a step behind. Dean got hold of her arm and Emery around turned to look at him. "Listen, Emery, I.. I shouldn't have said that back at the motel. I didn't meant to say it... it just.. sort of... came out."
"I know." Emery wasn't angry anymore. The one thing her gift allowed her to see was people's true feelings. How could you stay angry with anyone who was truly regretful?
"How..? Oh, the aura thing," Dean complained.
"I'm sorry if it makes you uncomfortable, Dean. But I can't control what I see nor have the power to un-see it." Dean nodded in silent agreement.

Dean and Sam were going through their second beers and Emery her first gingerale and arguing about their ideas of fun. Well, it was mostly Emery and Dean arguing while Sam was simply enjoying the amusing theatrics. They would both bite his head off if he mentioned it but Sam could clearly see how alike they were, just as stubborn, just as childish at times.
"Ask anyone, sweetheart, but reading books 10 times while sipping gingerale is only your idea of fun. Most people grab a drink or two and socialize," Dean teased.
"Well, I happen to like my brain and have no desire of damaging neuron dendrites," Emery replied acerbically.
"Neuro-what?"
"Brain cells," Sam chipped in.
"Well, thank you, professor," Dean replied sarcastically while Sam and Emery rolled their eyes. "Why do I have to deal with all the nerds?" Dean added intending the exaggeration.
"Shut up." Sam said giving Dean a pointed look while Dean just smiled mockingly in reply and ordered two shots of vodka, then downed them one after the other before launching his attack back on Emery.
"Maybe you come up with all the nerdy crap because you just can't handle any alcohol."
"I can handle it, thank you very much! I just don't give a crap about it."
"Oh, come on, Emery! At least be a man about it." Sam and Emery gave him a think-about-what-you're-saying look and Dean added, "You know what I mean."
"Dean..." That was Sam's warning tone.
"Three of what you just had and you will eat your words."
"Emery!" Sam continued with his warning tone. Emery's instincts were telling her to listen to Sam and be logical about it. Instead, she continued to ignore Sam and stare Dean down. Dean could rile her up, after all.
"Deal."
"You two can't be serious!" But when Emery ordered three vodkas, Sam gave up and just sat back.
~*~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~*~
"Why are the bears danciiing on your rooof?" Sam turned towards the back seat with an amused look while Dean rolled his eyes. It had taken them half an hour and a lot of drama to get Emery out of the bar. Dean was right about one thing. She did not handle her alcohol well. She was hammered.
"There are no bears on the roof," Sam replied smiling.
"Whaaat are you sayinnng?" Emery slurred. "There are bluuue bears, gooolden bears and pink! Piiink bears tooo!" Emery was giggling constantly. In fact, she was only getting words out in between bouts of giggles.
Sam grinned and Dean said, "I bet the bears are wearing tuxes and dancing with Barbie dolls."
"I'm..." Emery's sentence was interrupted by a hiccup. "... not an idiot, Dean! Barbiiie dolls are inanimate. They... they can't daaanceee."
"A drunk nerd. Perfect!" Dean's tone was laced with sarcasm.
~*~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~*~
Shut up! Emery was still half-asleep. The pounding in her head was getting worse and worse and now she was hearing voices as well.
"Emery! Open up!"
"Shut up!" Emery tried to scream but it was too much of an effort which hurt her head more so the words came out as a whisper.
"Emery! Come on!" Realizing those weren't voices in her head and whoever the hell was on the door wasn't going away, she dragged herself out of bed and opened the door. The sudden stream of sunlight made her squint and feel even more miserable, if that was even possible.
"What the hell do you want?" Emery said still squinting but she knew it was Dean on the other side.
"Well, good morning to you too, sunshine!" Emery just squinted at him, clearly delivering that this is so not a good time. "When I said we could all use a break, I meant taking the night off, not the entire next day as well." Emery furrowed her brows trying to process what Dean was saying, her mind was running a thousand times slower than usual. When she realized what he meant, her head shot towards the clock on the wall.
"It's 1 PM!" That was way, way past her sleep time.
"Clearly, your eyesight and neurons are still intact. Now, sweetheart, why don't you drink this," Dean pushed a glass of lime water in her hand. "Get over your hangover and meet us next door. We got work to do." Dean always used sweetheart to add to his ever-natural sarcasm and tease her. Rolling her eyes required more effort than her head could handle at the moment so she simply shut the door, walked back to her bed, drank the whole glass before getting into the shower.
~*~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~*~
Sam and Dean were going over the white board when Emery entered the room. Three glasses of lime water and two cold showers later, she was still pretty smashed.
"Hungover Emery. Never thought I'd see that," Sam teased while handing her a cup of coffee.
"Remind me never to drink, Sam."
"I did. Last night. Remember?" Sam gave her a pointed look.
"Stop staring at me. You're making my head hurt... more" With that, Emery took a seat while Sam and Dean shared an amusing look. This was so not going to be a productive day.
I know.. I know, nothing much happened in this one but I wanted to take a break too and actually just write a funny chapter. I'm not very good at humor, but I tried. If it made you laugh or even just smile, mission accomplished. Feel free to tell me if I just completely sucked, I'd understand 😳

Don't worry, L, if I do end up including it, it'll definitely go with the flow of the story. Trust me :)
