I have a feel that Donna respected their relationship to the extent where she didn't want it to be stained or ruined due to some petty sex & Harvey too respected Donna for what she is .. it was this mutual admiration for each other that they didn't try to push things .. Donna said feelings just dies away .. and Harvey being Harvey didn't even dare to take an emotional route with her until that night when his feelings just came out spontaneously

We saw Donna wanted to be an actress but I feel with time she made Harvey's goal her goal. Their life is so much tangled with each other and it was going swiftly and now suddenly their feelings are all scattered .. that idiotic comment of Harvey was a desperate but pathetic effort of reestablishing the composure but this time probably Donna wanted more ..

In 12 years of companionship this separation is going to be a revelation for both of them .. specially Harvey needs to comprehend his emotion fighting with inner crisis .. he needs o understand Donna won't be there forever if he doesn't acknowledge .. that would be an interesting watch

Harvey always had the help of Donna when he was stuck in an emotional crisis. Now he has this big job of figuring everything himself. I guess this is where the therapist comes in.
