I don't know if I should be posting this in first place or not.

But I really think IF could do something to lay some basic rules regarding historical and mythological shows.

There's slew of such shows on TV. And fans get passionate...in their zeal, sometimes there are fan wars and character bashing.

It's okay in case of other serials. But is it acceptable if there are fights over historical figures or even gods? Freedom of expression is okay. Still...is it permissible that names of kings and gods be used so casually or they are made fun of?

I have also noticed how discussions on one character also lead to arguments on polity, religion, nationality etc. (One thread on Buddha forum was about to burst with more and more controversies related not only to religion but also territorial dispute controversies).

Then there are proxy wars of sorts...as in case of Jodha Akbar and Maharana Pratap.

Sometimes viewers of either shows comment on other show forum or take digs at TRPs, story or forum ranking. Or make some post on historical fact which either forum's viewer feel is wrong representation of history.

Taking advantage of this are other spammer type members too who make posts in either forum and then claim to be fan of one yet bash the other, which leads to full on bashing of the show and its fans! (A comparison topic was locked in JA forum sometime back, where members who had never posted in MP forum had praised the show to skies and claimed JA could never match up to standards of MP! Comments in that thread were strong to put it mildly).

There have been fights even between Shiv and Shakti fans/devotees on DKDM forum! Even gods are not spared and sometimes fans end up using too casual language for Mahadev or Parvati in either the forum or FCs or CCs of IF...forgetting that these are not merely characters of a show but revered gods.

I request IF DT to evolve some more regulation in forums and conduct of members with regard to historical and mytho shows. Debate characters, discuss all POVs of history, mythology and religion but still keep it civil? And avoid using harsh or too casual language for historical characters?

I am not accusing only others. I myself used harsh words for grey shade characters in Maharana Pratap like Rana Udai Singh - which now I feel, I should not have done.

I feel IF could try to step in and caution members about kind of language that is acceptable or not. After all, this is not Twitter or Orkut! A king or his characterisation can be called weak. But it does not seem nice if he's called idiot or wimp.

It wouldn't reflect well on reputation of IF either when someone casually searches for a historical or mytho character and an IF thread comes among top results...with posts that may have unsavoury language in it.

As shows progress, or more such shows come, there would be discussions on any aspect be it morality, religion, history or its correctness...please set some basic protocol before things get loose or ugly.

I admit often we as viewers get carried away and react to characters in the show forgetting that these names are not just names but people who existed or in case of mythos, gods that are worshipped.

Individual threads or posts get reported and mods do take action when required.

Still...if IF could take more serious step regarding such shows, forums and their members it would be good.

I am sorry if I wrote anything wrong. I don't mean to name-call anyone or pick out few shows' names to pin point or target anyone. Just a general concern (as of recent times I have started seeing Mythological discussion forum and even there some contentious posts have been made in past so this whole experience of reading or posting in forums made me write this).

I hope IF team could do something to improve the situation.

Thanks for providing us the platform for exchange of views. 😊

Honestly I am not too fond of censorship in terms of voicing opinions on IF. But more often than not members indulge in a war of words that are unsavory and not in tune with internet etiquette.

Having said that I agree these historical and mythological characters might be held as a reverence symbol for many and certain comments may hurt the sentiments. So a disclaimer should be suffice.

See a constructive discussion about these personalities should be encouraged, as everyone have their own individual perception regarding this. But what should absolutely not be allowed is when they use vile and foul language to dissuade the seriousness of the topic and reduce them to caricature!

IF is a global forum with a wide reach, yes they should make sure religious harmony is maintained but no way they should prevent a sentiment if it questions the morality or character of these Personas. Religion and faith are very abstract in nature so we really cannot regulate them. A little tact with words though would be appreciated!

@Anjani

I am pointing at use of abusive or vile language only. I don't mean to call for censorship or prevent people from debating on historical and mytho characters - I have clarified that in my post also. But it is the language and overall participation which could use some regulation.

Views are not wrong. Presentation of views and their exchange could be an issue.

I know as members we should also be a little more controlled, either ignore or regulate ourselves. Still, if such things are not exactly happening much...then a probable proactive intervention from DT wouldn't hurt perhaps.

IF has strict rules about fan wars and bashing it's just that we don't have active DT on MP forum

If you see such fights PM aahana or use the report button

Anu i agree with you, with normal shows it is ok to make fun of a character but when it comes on to historical shows or mytho shows we can't pick up a character and make mockery on that. Healthy discussions about history is justified but defaming or making instigating remarks is highly objectionable. I request DT to make some rule so as to stop this practice

You are right. But from personal experience, I have noticed that DT sometimes take too long to act and by then members also lose patience and end up retaliating to what's posted by someone else.

For eg., in case of these Mahadev and Parvati fans, the damage had already been done before mods issued warnings to FCs. Same in case of Maharana Pratap forum where reporting either doesn't get results or action happens when things have gone too far. Even in the JA forum that comparison topic created by a troll claiming to be an MP fan (yet he had never posted in MP forum) had gone too far before the DT stepped in to lock the topic. It was made around June or July, revived in September and closed only later.

DT has to be more prompt and swift in their action. Otherwise things get out of hands. Usual fictional characters incite impassioned responses, historical/mytho ones are bound to incite even more impassioned responses! Hard to ignore or keep waiting.

I saw some defence related forum. There also discussions on kings and dynasties were going on and the legitimacy of their actions were debated. All kinds of theories and arguments were exchanged yet in a civil manner. It is to credit of their members but also the team of that site.

On IF...we get carried away as fans.

Don't know I have seen immediate results whenever I have PMed the mods on issues. Especially Aahaana and jyo are superb at their job

But I understand what you mean. It sometimes goes out of hand. Sometimes the concerned DT is offline or busy

I guess coolbies should be given more powers
