Brings back World Champion crown to India after 11 years

Gukesh will wear the world crown 11 years after Vishwanathan Anand was dethroned in the 2013 World Chess Championship. Incidentally, Gukesh's triumph was bolstered by the mentorship of GM Anand and his WestBridge Anand Chess Academy.

It must have been a deja vu moment of sorts for Gukesh and his fans on Thursday at the Resorts World Sentosa hotel in Singapore, when Liren made his 55th move - 'a childish, one-move blunder', to quote former world champion Vladimir Kramnik. Only, this time, the outcome of the contest was opposite: Gukesh was the victor, not the vanquished. Struggling to hold back emotions in the first few moments of living his dream as world champion, Gukesh yet again put all the pieces back at the starting positions after Liren had hurriedly left the playing arena.

Congratulations to Gukesh Dommaraju!smiley40

Gukesh on Magnus carlsen

D Gukesh: ‘Becoming World Champion does not mean I am the best player in the world, obviously that is Magnus’

Gukesh, after being crowned the youngest world champion in the history of the sport, spoke after the match about testing himself at this level against Magnus Carlsen one day, if the Norwegian decides to come back.

It was an emotional evening for Gukesh Dommaraju, as he was still soaking in his sudden coronation as the youngest-ever chess world champion in history. But the 18-year-old had to quickly compose himself and face plenty of questions from the media in Singapore. Among the many queries thrown at him over nearly 50 minutes, a couple made him think about the future. What next for the teenager who has reached the top of the chess world?

Gukesh, even in his moment of crowning glory, didn’t lose perspective. “My goal is to play in the top level for longest time possible. I have just started my journey. I want to have a very long career and to stay at the very top,” he said, before quickly adding: “Becoming the world champion does not mean I am the best player, obviously that is Magnus.”

Guys what do you have to say about Russia's criticism towards Chinese opponent Ling for deliberately losing to our Gukesh

What could be the motive if Ling indeed lost the final on purpose? If he had done that in earlier rounds to stop someone from going into the next round, I can understand. In this case, he will either win or lose. Why would he lose a Championship on purpose? It is not making any sense.

Cheers..

Apparently It was Russia vs same Diren Ling in last year championship final and they found match to be hectic and worthy of final but are questioning it this year.. I find it ridiculous.. It was round 14 anyway.. Diren seems have been under immense pressure right before championship because of constant criticism from his own countrymen.. My heart goes out to him as well..

But our boy Gukesh.. Man I have set him as my wallpaper.. When at 18 he can achieve it by pure hardwork, it makes me believe I can achieve my goal as well if I work as hard as him.. smiley27

It looks like a case of sour grapes. Are they questioning why he did not lose to their player but lost to an Indian boy?

Experts agreed that after 3 or 4 hours of intense play, the overwhelming emotions can make A player falter. So, they need to accept the results and stop their silly accusations.

Cheers..
