Chacha Nehru's Gift To The Children Of India Exactly a hundred and ten years ago in Allahabad, on 14th November, 1889, a son was born to an eminent lawyer, Motilal Nehru and his wife Swaroop Rani. They named him Jawaharlal. He was an exceptional child, brilliant and compassionate and was greatly loved by all.

His father wanted to give him the best education and so sent him to England to do his M.A. from Cambridge. On his return to India, young Jawaharlal realised that he was not interested in making money through the legal profession. Instead, he was filled with patriotic fervour and wanted to help the poor and the downtrodden. He joined the Congress and Gandhiji in the Freedom Struggle of India and turned out to be an extremely outspoken, honest, practical and illustrious politician. And when India gained its independence, this outstanding statesman was named the first Prime Minister of the country.

Nehru's contribution to Society

It can be said that Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru is the maker of Modern India as his life and works have influenced our way of thinking, social structures and all round development. He was a perfect blend of eastern values and western thinking and encouraged technological progress. But he was also a man of letters and a great poet and wrote some famous works like, 'Glimpses of World History' and 'Discovery of India'. His letters to his daughter, Indira, was also compiled into a book and reflects his philosophical outlook, his compassion and above all, his tender heart.

The birth of Chacha Nehru His great love for roses as well as children is a well-known fact. In fact he often compared the two, saying that children were like the buds in a garden. They should be carefully and lovingly nurtured, as they were the future of the nation and the citizens of tomorrow. He felt that children are the real strength of a country and the very foundation of society. Most importantly he did not discriminate between the sexes and believed in giving equal opportunities to girls and boys. In fact his own little girl grew up to be the third Prime Minister of India.

Quite naturally, he was the 'beloved' of all the children who gave him the endearing name of 'Chacha Nehru'. As a tribute to this great man and his genuine love for children, his birthday is celebrated all over India as 'UNIVERSAL CHILDREN'S DAY'. A day of fun and fanfare. It is not only a national holiday, but is celebrated with singing, dancing and storytelling in schools and colleges as well as on radio and television. Special functions are held to honour children all over the country.

The significance of Children's Day

India's first prime minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, was born on November 14. He liked children and was regularly photographed with them. Children called him Chacha (Uncle) Nehru.

After he became prime minister of India, his birthday is observed as Children's Day in India. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Jawaharlal is a Persian word Javher-e La'al, meaning 'Red Jewel'. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was born on 14 November 1889 (and died on May 27, 1964). Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was a political leader of the Indian National Congress, a pivotal figure in the Indian independence movement and the first Prime Minister of Independent India. He was also a key figure in International politics in the post-war period, and was one of the founding figures of the non-alignment. Popularly referred to as Panditji which meansScholar.

Nehru was also a writer, scholar and amateur historian, and the patriarch of the Nehru-Gandhi family, one of the most influential forces in Indian politics. The son of the wealthy Indian barrister and politician Motilal Nehru, Nehru had become one of the youngest leaders of the Indian National Congress. Rising under the mentorship of Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru became a charismatic, radical leader, advocating complete independence from the British Empire. An icon for Indian youth, Nehru was also an exponent of socialism as a means to address long-standing national challenges. Serving as Congress President, Nehru raised the flag of independent India in New Delhi on August 15th and served as prime minister.

But amidst all this pomp and glory, we should not lose sight of Chacha Nehru's real message. That is providing our children with a safe and loving environment in which to grow as well as giving them ample and equal opportunities through which they can take great strides and contribute to the progress of the nation. This day serves as a reminder to each and every one of us, to renew our commitment to the welfare of children and teach them to live by their Chacha Nehru's standards and example.

Hai Officers... Officer Krithika reporting 😛

Aaj kitna acchha din hai...

During school days, when I used to go to school I used to eagerly look forward to this day...

Not because I was Nehru's fan or anything...

Because this day, we were allowed color dress at school,

sweets would be distributed and there would be some entertainments in school 😛

But now.... Knowing the day's significance... It was so childish, and yes we were child at that time naa 😳

Nehru was a good Prime Minister.... Yes of course hurdles were his way, misconceptions were there....

But imagine handling a country full of such diversities which the British of that time, left it to theeteers 😭

Tough... Really tough...

With parts cutting from Mother India..

People wondering where their loyality should lie... Really hats off to him 👏

And nothing to say of our present Prime Minister... Dr.Manmohan Singh...

He is doing a fabulous job...

Getting the India we are dreaming about, the dream Dr.Abdul Kalaam laid in us... Hats Off to him too 👍🏼

But, India always faces a lots of if's and but's where nothing innovative is allowed to be carried on....

Reason corruption, jealousy, favoritism... Sigh!!!!!

But I know, as individuals atleast we in our life can follow certain principles in our life....

What I follow is..... 😊

"Never hurt anyone in my life my actions, words, thoughts...

And if anyone is hurt do my best to help them!!!!!!!!!!"

A really really tough one to implement I would say... But I also beleive... Nothing is impossible...

We all know don't we "Impossible" has "I m possible" 😛

Cheers.... Happy childrens day!!!!!!!!

Wishing our dear Mother India, all the very best for her future, which we would certainly liven up for her....

JAI HIND 😛

Hi!!!!!!!!!

Aaj ka din is really special for me...it's my last Childern's Day 😉 ...I'll be 18, and an adult soon 😉

I believe that there's a child hidden in everyone, no matter what age he or she is.....kuch log lifelong apna bachpana hi show karte hain 😉 😆 😆

Waise thanks for this lovely topic krits 👏 👏 👏

Mere school mein bahut maza aata tha...civil dress....subah teachers assembly conduct karti thi n they used to behave like kids 😆 .......ek teacher always used to give funny headlines about the school n students 😆
Then they used to give us nice messages, thode se prayer songs...then dance n aur performances, then class mein khaana n all, n then poore school ki dance party 😊

You know...India n Pakistan...in do countries ke beech humesha problems rahi hain...but yeh problems politicians ki create ki hui hain...andar se we citizens are same...we want to be together...but politics is the main barrier.
Socho...India ke bacche n Pakistan ke bacche mein kya difference hai???????? No difference.....
The kids realise this, but parents remember the days of Terrorism n Kargil n so many other things. They are not willing to accept each other...n who can blame them??????????

India's second problem is education......right now for statistical purposes, India is concentrating on quantity, not quality.
Number of literate people has increased, but they are not educated. They can read, write, and they have degrees, but they are not developed....see such 'educated' people...they don't know the 'h' of hygiene.

People read textbooks, newspapers....but they don't really know what's happening around them, n they don't even want to know.
They know dowry system is evil, yet people from rich families ask for dowry.
They know n have studied why paying taxes is important, yet they hide their incomes.

Corruption, hypocrisy, discrimination, politics...this all affects children too.......they learn these principles only, n when they grow up, they also imbibe these 'qualities'.

There are some people, who are trying to make the effort to change things.....n specially it's the youth that is realising what all is wrong n lacking.
The youth is trying to change things, to correct the mistakes the adults have made.

The question is, will they be able to cover the past losses??????????? Will the elder generation let them do it? Will they be able to retain this spirit in face of opposition by the elders???????

I really hope so...rather, I pray that the youth shall be successful.......if not my generation then at least the next 😊

Happy Childern's Day!!!!!!!!!!! And all the best for a better future!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very well said Amna...

I just need to agree with your saying.... We citizens not only of India, Pakistan.... Every country don't have differences in us... If we had, we wouldn't be working in such diverse countries with people of other cultures and country learning other cultures and languages.... As you pointed out it is politicians doing for their benefit.... And yes even I pray for Mother India's bright future.... Changes must be instilled by today's youth... Strive for it, results will be surely seen 👏

😆Amna nahin krits😆

You know we have a story in English this year...by Pearl S. Buck....it's about a Japanese doctor who saves an American Marine during the war between the two countries.

We learnt this thing only.........that inside we are all same, becoz we are all humans. We have this bond of humanity.
