Amaji vs. Alak

By now we all know in SS Amaji is widow, just as Alak right? So why are there soo many rules towards Alak? Amaji could attend all functions and weddings, but Alak can't, not even her own daughters! Also Amaji gets to rule not only her household, but basicaly the whole village/town, so how come Alak has to stay in her room, can't talk to anyone, and pray all day? I am totally confused. If anyone can please answer I would than maybe understand, after all these serial is surround hindu parampara's, which I'm not familiar with at all.

For the sake of the argument, let's say you are right, than it seems the parampara's are only for poor and weak! Also doesn't than Alak has any responsibilities?
