Together yet miles apart

All the 3 elder couples were distanced like Sita & Ram were expected to stay apart despite being together in those 14 years. Lakshman & Urmila were far away from each other (miles apart due to Lakshman's choice) and Bharat chose to escape to Nandigram and left Mandovi back in Ayodhya to take care of the elders in his absence. These things were glaring at everyone and they acknowledge the pain they underwent.

What about the pain the youngest couple underwent? Nobody even would have realized. despite being together in the same palace and at times in same room, they were miles apart. They were on constant talk but never for themselves but to discuss on the decision need to be made for the state. They met each other just to check on the Praja and parents health and welfare. They lied down on their pallang but never had the luxury of sleep as they were to analyze about the day went behind and think about the day to arrive. Not just for them but for the Ayodhyan's. They had to watch their every word and step as they could not risk the damage done to the amanath of Ram which they were dealing with in his absence. They had safe guard it till the right entitle to come and claim it. They were not even a condition to remember they had a life of their own. They were the one's who were distanced by each other even without their knowledge. Did they realize that? No, as they love their siblings too much to even think that they were burdened with additional responsibility which they were not to bear.

I salute this pair.

Jaya nicely written for Shatrughnan and Kirti. Yes they were together but instead of enjoying it they had to take care of all responsibilities and they did that also without complaining. Yes not much is talked about them, but without them the story would not have been the same.

Most of the times, we think of Lakshman & Urmila as they were to separate because Lakshman followed Ram. Then we talk about Bharat & Mandovi as Bharat lived in Nandigram while Mandovi had to live in Ayodhya. We all take the last couple for granted as they both lived in the same palace.

I agree with every word you said Jaya :)
Shatrughan and Kirti sacrificed 14 years of happiness for the Kingdom. We have to learn a lot from them as well.

Shatrughna lead a life of acting king (but not a rubber-stamp 😉) for 14yrs. He ruled the kingdom on behalf of Bharath who actually granted the permission on behalf of Ram. So Shatrughna's responsibilities were immense w.r.t ruling the kingdom, taking care of elders and the subjects. As his name suggest he should have lead a life as "killer of enemies". He was subjected to take decisions being king but at the same time tied with the fact that he was just the care-taker. In all those tough time, it was the youngest of 4 sisters who supported him. Its not only Ayodhya which required the powerful king to safeguard it from their enemies but even Mithila. This youngest couple among the four pairs lived together, not with happiness but with responsibilities.

Again I borrow the words of Thiruvalluvar's Thirukkural

Iraikaakkum Vaiyakam Ellaam Avanai

Muraikakkum Muttac saiyin

Meaning: King protects the world (his kingdom) and the justice guards the king provided he dispenses justice to his subjects.

@ Ramya, thanks for the detailed review. And thanks for giving the meaning of the Thirulkkural which I can never understand when heard in Venkateshwara temples as I can only understand the regular spoken language but can't the poems and prayers. I would love to understand and even learn to recite but I don't think I get it in English script.

@Jaya: Thank you for bringing this wonderful topic in the first place for discussion.

In which Venkateshwara temple you heard thirukkural? I don't know about this info.

I love thirukkural and I try my level best to connect with epic and history always.

I think English version is available online for different athigaram (chapters). Google mata can help you if not then this Ramya can😉
