Memories- They are the lifeline in hard times

I have always believed in creating memories. If my cupboard is opened you will not only find albums, but also the letters, greeting cards and gift cards shared from my loved ones. And they go back to my school days. People will ask me what is the use of keeping them. Because whenever I feel down, I go back to them. An album, a card when you see them, when you read through them it gives you the power to kill the negativity and move on. So these are physical memories. But in addition to that I always have memories that are locked in my heart. When I hear a song from Dil Chahta Hai somehow I am automatically transported to my tour bus and I am once again back in Hoganaikal and Kodaikanal. Memories of 2001 college tour, every moment of it runs through me rejuvenating me.
Seeing a bottle of pepsi is enough for me to remind me of my plus 2 days. There are similarly so many memories that I have kept with me.
But I have been careful of one thing. As much as I treasure my positive memories, I try to give a closure to my negative memories. Some memories you can close by forgiving. Some memories by taking affirmative steps to direct your fire towards a constructive cause. The first thing is that we have to acknowledge the negative memory and accept the fact that negative memory needs a closure. And only we can bring closure to it.
Half of our problems arise from the fact that we keep on telling about negative memories without doing anything about them and we forget the positive memories. We cannot change the past. But in present we can take action to close the past.
And one of the major things about life is having no regrets. Learn to enjoy the moments given to you. If your environment is positive learn to create everlasting memories through loving relations. Because if you don't create them, when life takes a toll you will not have anything to fall back on.
If you see yesterday Sita drew her strength from Ram's memories. His presence. Because when they were together they spend time in creating them.

I agree with you Shruthi.
We need to cherish the positive memories, and learn from negative ones. All negative ones teach us some lesson or the other. We have to learn from them, but not keep them in mind, and mourn about them.
Krishna shows us paths to everything: Think only of the present.
Thinking either about the past or the future will only depress us.

Exactly. I agree. Sita-Ram and Urmila-Lakshman. They created memories together, helping them sustain happiness and never lose hope.

Thanks for the wonderful post, di! Yes, life gives us good things, and bad things, but all of them are useful in bad times. Good memories give us strength and determination, and bad memories give us knowledge. Like our elders say, "Everything happens for the good."

No wonder this was so well written. Where is the writers corner found? I would love to read what you are writing. What is it about?
