What if Lakshman was Ravan's brother???

Yesterday, was having a discussion on dharma and adharma and then went onto deep introspection when my mind suddenly drifted to Lakshman.

I always wondered what would have happened had Lakshman been born to Kaikesi as a brother to Ravan... would he have been the same fierce, loyal, righteous Lakshman????Would he have supported his brother whole-heartedly in each of his actions or would he instead take the path of Vibhishan and only stand for what is right???

Perhaps most of you would say that he would always stand for what is right but going by SKR screenplay,he has a dialogue with Ram where he says,''Mujhe dharm-adharm ki samajh nahi hai, aapke aadesh/marg hi mera dharm hai'' or something like this... so going by this dialogue, would he have said the same thing, had he been Ravan's brother??
Would he have been Meghnad's mirror image and obeyed and supported all of his brother's wrong deeds??

I know he is an avatar of Shesh naag and it's not possible for him to separate from Vishnu but what would he do in a situation like that.

I have been thinking about this for a long time but could not come to a conclusion,so dear forum friends I would like to know your opinion about this.I would be grateful if you'll answer my question and lessen my confusion 😊 .

Just like vibhishan, Lakshman also has a boon (the boon is actually for Sesh naag😊). He would always be righteous and would follow dharm.
Even if Lakshman was Raavan's brother, he would have been righteous. Lakshman's words that he would follow Shri Ram as he does not have the understanding of adharm /dharm and for him Shri Ram is supreme and what he does is dharm is the roop of total samarpan to Sriman Narayan.

Loyalty, fierceness and righteousness define Lakshman. We hold these qualities synonymous to Lakshman and that is the key answer to your question. I believe if Lakshman indeed were a brother to Raavan; he would be the first to oppose Raavan and maybe unlike Vibhishan it wouldn't be a meek protest...he would have violently put his voice across. The core character of Lakshman is fire and fire is purifying even if it hurts you badly...so yeah the righteousness in him would never allow him to be a part of Raavan's nefarious plans.

Ramayana itself answers this question

Lakshman , though most loyal to Rama , did go against him on not one but two occasions

He opposed Ram's Decision during Sita's Agnipariksha as well as Ram's descision to send Sita to exile , and in some versions its written that he refused to return to ayodha and tried commiting suicide

So , I would say that righteousness was his greatest asset

He was no less pious than Rama and Sita

Brilliant answers Harini,@Meself and Shivam !!! 👏👏👏
I think I got my answer... Lakshman did not have blind trust or faith in his brother...He knew very well what is right and what is wrong... and his righteousness would take precedence over his loyalty... perhaps, that is why he is worshipped along with Ram and Sita in temples.

Lakshman would never have been like Kumbhakarna or Indrajit, who had a misplaced sense of Dharma. He would have followed the path of Vibhishana, had he been Ravan's brother.

Lakshman was the embodiment of loyalty, yes, but he also had a very staunch sense of Dharma. He was extremely loyal to his brother Ram, but he still went against him two times in his life when he felt his brother was wrong. This proves that Lakshman was not blindly loyal. He was loyal, but he was loyal because his brother was the embodiment of dharma.

If Lakshman was a loyal brother, it is because Ram was such an ideal man, and vice versa. They both were so loyal to each other, because the other always behaved righteously.

One cannot expect a brother like Lakshman if they behave like Ravan, just as one cannot expect a wife like Sita if they cannot be a husband like Ram. It goes both ways.

So no, I do not think Lakshman would ever have supported Ravan had he been his brother. He'd have followed the path of Vibhishan and gone against him.

I also agree with Shivi that Lakshman wouldn't have been passive like Vibhishan. His speeches would have been more passionate and incensed. He would have condemned Ravan before finally leaving Lanka.

Thank you so much for expressing your valuable opinion!!
Actually I always found,Lakshman and Meghnad to be quite similar, that is why this confusion arised.
And now after reading all of your answers,I understand that the faith and loyalty that Laxman had for Ram is similar to what bhakts have for their ishtdev...
