Apology forum members, have missed quite a few episodes.
Catching up from 6th April onwards - the debate episode...

My thoughts on the debate:
One can argue no length about Ram vs. Bharath, the well being of the world, a nation, some citizens, a family or an individual. No matter what one says, we are all still talking about well being.
All intentions are correct. Then how does one weigh these intentions?

That's where dharma and karma come in.
Only words are not enough, only actions are not enough, only actions as consequence of unspoken words are not enough. There needs to be a higher purpose, a greater good that overrides the immediate gains.

That is why Ram won the argument.
For him what is important is : words were spoken by Dashrath in the form of granting wishes to Kaikeyi
words were thought by Kaikeyi in the form of negativity, and insecurity
these words and thoughts can never be taken back, just like an arrow once shot from a bow can never be returned.
Time has passed, clock has ticked, words are out - this legacy will always remain - the sound will echo through the ages, the lessons will resound with every era and civilisation...

How can Ram then leave the consequences incomplete ? What legacy will he be leaving for the future?
Consequences of these actions will be borne by all-
Dashrath did by giving up a life which had become a burden to him
Kaikeyi is doing by losing her husband, her respect and her self -respect and still living on

So now,
How can Ram ignore all that has happened and carry on with life as if it didn't?
He will have to balance out the spoken words and unspoken thoughts with his actions, he will have to restore faith in humanity , in dharma and karma, in 'reason' , in action and consequence.
And why Ram? Not coz he is the chosen one, but coz he owes it to his parents, just like every other person would owe their existence to their parents, he is doing the most expected.

And so he continues on a difficult path, a seemingly difficult path...

What say forum members ?
Looking forward to your thoughts.

A great presentation. Yes that's why it is said, the spoken words, shot arrow and the broken pearl can never be recalled or recovered.

Dashrath had given his WORD.
Kaikeyi had asked fro her WORD.
RAM heard his parents WORD
He said he will stand by the word given by his father to his mother and fulfill the word asked by his mother and he gave his WORD Kaikeyi that he will obey her word with honor and pride.

Well written👏

Ramayan always has been about choices that we have and the path we can take. Shri Ram had the choice to say no to his father.. No one would have said anything against it (they loved him so) but he did not. Lakshman could have taken the easy way out but he chose to go with his brother. Bharath had everything and also a valid reason to be king, but he decided to give it all up due to his Ram bhakti.

Shri Ram showed the way to all of them by keeping his father's words even when his father was not there anymore. It is from Ram that we learn that the difficulty of a choice should not be the criteria of selection rather the dharma behind the decision. Every action of the four brothers personified dharma..
