You will think why I took this line. Because it is a very deep line that actually defines Ravan like quality.
Being selfish and using freewill. Because many people mistake free will with selfishness. We need to see the difference. Selfishness is ruled by ego. If you want something, you take it from others. Doesnt matter the other likes to give you or not. Yes Ravan wanted to win the 3 worlds. Yes he won devlok. But what about his sister. Her world. In his craze to win the world outside, he forgot the breaking of inner world.
Yes Kaikasi wanted glory for Ravan. And the path she asked to take was conquer the 3 worlds. Yes Ravan conquered the outer world, but couldnt conquer the inner world.

That is what selfishness will give you. You may go and control everything outside, but finally your family itself will break you.

And look at Ram. What he is doing is freewill. He is not going to conquer the world outside, but his action that ensure the inner world is conquered. His family is together, the relations are together. And by conquering the inner world, he becomes the Lord of 3 worlds.

So when you think about yourself you control the outer world. Want to show your wealth and power. That is selfishness. When you think about others you control your inner world. Wealth and power bow in front of you.

And there is only one power that can hold selfishness that is free will.

Ravan's inner world crumbling has started with shurpanakha at the same time of his conquering the outer world.

The viswa vijayi Ravan couldnt face his sister. That is what happens when you become self centrered.

I agree.
There is a big difference between free will and ego. The sanity of the inner world is highly required for not just one man, but for his entire family to function. When he, who is also the head of the family, when his inner world starts crumbling due to ego, the inner world of the people surrounding him, his near and dear ones crumble. That's what happens to the entire Ravan parivaar. In his greed for the vishwa vijay aytra, Ravan forgot that he was damaging his own sister's life.
Now look at Ram Parivaar. Ram calm and composed, accepts the vanvaas, out of free will. He conquers ego; his inner world is at peace. Seeing his inner world at peace, Lakshman and Sita's inner world is at peace. Seeing them, Urmila's is at peace, though she has to be separated from her husband and sister for 14 years. Seeing Urmila, Mandavi, Kirti and the distraught Kausalya and Sumitra will find inner peace. When a young girl of 18 is able to bear separation from her husband, they will take strength seeing her strength. Bharat and Shatrughan will have the three sisters behind them; holding them and helping them with the kingdom (I really hope Urmila is shown helping the brothers out with the Kingdom affairs; she is the most scholarly of the four sisters). Ram Parivaar also shows the chain reaction; the chain reaction when peace in the inner world is achieved.
Sorry if I've rambled a lot 😆

Shruthy I was searching for yr post. Didn't find it until now when u gave the link in DD's thread. I thought u might be busy since didn't see u there also.
You brought a nice parallel b/w Ram n Ravan from yesterday's episode. Ravan winning all the 3 worlds but losing the faith of his family or his own world. Ram losing everything to keep his family intact keeping their faith in him n thus becoming the lord of all three worlds.
Ravan in us whenever rears his ugly head, relationship loses its value. They will be ruled by ego. We will lose faith in each other. The only solution to this is Ram's way - selfless love.

As usual very thought provoking post ...
There is indeed a big difference btw freewill and selfishness but the line btw them is very thin.. Freewill accompanied by ego is selfishness... It was Ravan's free will to worship Lord Shiva.. It had no traces of selfishness...
But the moment he started using his knowledge or powers in a wrong way, he started his own destruction no matter how many times he may become" tino loko ka swami..."

Likewise today we may say that we believe in Lord Ram, we have faith in God etc, but the day we start building ego or selfishness in us, our self destruction starts, just like Ravan ...

Thus faith in Ram/God should be accompanied by imbibing the qualities of Ram, identify the elements of Ravan in us and throw them away...Then only in true sense we can understand the contrast between Ram and Ravan..
But alas it's the most difficult task to identify our own mistakes and correct them..

Shruthi, a relevant post again. My younger child was sick, so just caught up with the episode. Ravan conquered the three worlds, but was unable to stop the seeds of disintegration being sown in his own family. His ego was satiated with his victories but in the process he lost his family's respect and trust. Shoorpanaka starts the chain of events leading to his destruction and Vibheeshan supports his enemy to cement it. His children are killed before his eyes and his' sone ki lanka' gets destroyed .
By contrast Ram stops his family from breaking up by taking the path of truth and righteousness .I love the contrasts brought about between Ram and Ravan shown in such a consistent manner. I don't like the versions of Ravan being good...evil is evil and his actions cannot be justified. It is like when a person commits crimes ,it is made justifiable by saying that his childhood was rotten. Where is the accountability for his actions and the justice for his victims? I am not saying that people are perfect , but grey shades are more acceptable in good people making bad decisions, but evil intentions and actions cannot be justified in any way.Even Ram had to account for his action of Sita's banishment {luv kush}and Vali's death{in Krishna avatar},though it was taken for the greater good of the society.
Krishna says that any action taken for the greater good is acceptable than taken for satisfying our own desires and ego...{I seem to be still working on it😉}
Shruthi ,this Ram brings out the shades of our Krishna, doesn't he? The only difference is that Ram is serious and Krishna would have had a smile in his eyes, especially when the praja state that No one can beat Ram in logic and that he can convince anyone to go along with his explanations!

Jayashree we need funny bones at times.
@aditi see that is what I like in SKR. In showing the contrast between Ram and Ravan they are actually showing us the qualities that exist within us. What we should take, what we should leave.
@savitha maybe Ram till now was shown as a theory, but Krishna was always practical. People experimented more with Krishna. With that twinkle in the eye mischievious Krishna, romantic Krishna, playful Krishna can be shown. But Ram was always at a pedestal. Somehow this version removes that pedestal and shows Ram as a human. One who faces situations, takes decisions and yes he becomes more relatable. Yes that twinkle doesnt exist in his eyes. But even that serenity has Moh Maya.
@Geena my post I put it yesterday itself. Actually when I didnt see replies I thought I took shurpanakha may be that is why no one liked it 😆😆
@shrutha real victory is in managing the inner world. But very few manage that.

Exactly my point. I am striving hard to make my inner world peaceful, so that my outer world won't collapse.
