Can someone please tell me the story behind what Kaikasi was telling Mandodri? She said that the Vishnu bhakt who wanted to marry Vishnu had cursed Ravan. And that the Vishnu bhakta woman had incarnated and married the incarnation of Vishnu.
We had seen the story of a woman who was meditating and praying to be married to Vishnu. And Ravana had disturbed her, so she cursed him that a woman will be the cause of his death. So this woman reincarnated as Sita? I thought Goddess Lakshmi had incarnated as Sita. Or was that woman Lakshmi in that life? I am so confused...someone please help get my stories straight.

Thank you! ❤️
Swati

The woman meditating was Vedavati...and Sita is devi Lakshmi's incarnation only...but in some versions she is also considered as the reincarnation of Vedavati born to destroy Ravan...or ratger become the reason of his death

I've heard a version that said that right before Sita's kidnapping (which both Ram and Sita knew about), Sita switched places with Vedavati (who was in Sita's form) who was staying with Agnidev. So when fake / shadow Sita was kidnapped by Ravan and then Ram ordered Sita for her to do the Agnipariksha, it was simply so he could get his Sita back (after all, Ram was a one-woman man) from Agnidev's realm

Vedavati in all versions is an incarnation of Mahalakshmi only. In some versions, Mahalakshmi is born as Vedavati who is reborn as Sita. In other versions, Mahalakshmi is born as both Vedavati and Sita. After Vedavati's immolation, she stays with Agni Dev until it's time for Sita Haran and then she switches places with Sita.

Whatever version one follows, Vedavati is an incarnation of Mahalakshmi.

So the simple equation is Mahalakshmi = Vedavati = Sita.
