I was debating what to take after yesterday's episode. I decided to go with Lakshman. Though his was the usual emotional reaction for protecting his brother, each line he spoke was relevant . But the cake goes to the line I mentioned above " We have broken so many dhanush in childhood by mistake why didnt you come ". Because in that question was not only was the reason how the dhanush broke was given, but also it had an innocence about it.
I mean what he said is so true. We are all humans. Mistakes happen from us. Without trying to understand the circumstances of the incident, how will some answer a man if he is just putting questions and expects answer in a single line. It was nice to see Ram not stopping Lakshman yesterday. He was in free flow.
Parashuram is a learnt man. He is a sage. He has seen Lakshmi in Sita. If he had kept his anger aside his brain would have worked. First thing it could have asked would be who could lift the Dhanush in first place to break it. It really has to be a divine person. Second the occasion. It has been broken in the swayamvar. So who lifted the bow in swayamvar. He himself had told only the man who has been the husband of Sita in previous birth also will be able to do the task. If he had noticed the varmala in Ram's neck he would have known who he is. Only Hari can be the husband of Lakshmi.
He didnt think the sabha had learnt men from Janak, Rishi Yajyavalkya and Brahmarishi Vishwamitra. Everyone knew the sacredness of the bow. So if they are silent after the bow broke what could be the reason.
And Lakshman's question gave him the answer too. It has happened by mistake. But the man is so posssed by anger and self righteous that he wanted to kill the person who did this to his guru's dhanush.
This is where we need to see the contrast between Parashuram and Hanuman. Hanuman goes and burns Lanka calling Ram's name. Parashuram is also threatening to destroy mithila if the person who broke the dhanush doesnt come forward.
While Hanuman in Ram's name was punishing an adharmi who took a lonely woman by force and because of that his action is approved by God, what Parashuram was doing was making a mountain out of a mole in the name of his guru.
He only sees the broken object. And that object is of more importance to him than any other humane values.
He represented those people of era who gives more importance to objects than the underlying humane values of pardoning.
For e.g for doing a pooja we are asked to keep our clothes washed dried seperately and to only tocuh it post bath. What if a child or leave a teenager accidentally touches it. Will its purity be lost. Do we need to raise hungama over it. When you shout the teenager will also shout, the way Lakshman did. Who should show maturity. You or the teenager.
Another thing I can talk about is the practice of isolating women during their mensural periods. It is practiced in my home, so I know how humiliating it is at times, especially if you have your periods during festivals where guests will come. Everyone who will come and go will know your condition and treat you impure. So what if during that time the woman accidently end up touching something which she was not supposed to. How much shouting the elder should do on the girl. How much it should be said it is a paap.
We need to know that if we expect maturity from teenagers or children, we have to show maturity first. There is no point calling Lakshman Murkh Balak. Because he is not. If you dont show maturity, understand the circumstance expect the teenager to retort. Everyone is not Ram. But not being Ram doesnt mean they are wrong also. Every question of Lakshman was right yesterday.
Message for the day: If we want next generation to respect us, ensure our actions are like that. Show the maturity to command respect. Give less importance to objects, they dont make or break relations, only the underlying human values does. Understand it. And be a role model to the next generation.
PS: This is out of topic. But still putting. Watched Airlift movie yesterday. It is a movie that should be watched. To feel inspired. It shows an incident that is there in Guinness Book of World Record, but I only knew it when I saw the movie. To feel pride in our country, in our country men watch it . It is inspiring
