MANDAVI'S REACTION ON LEARNING RAM LAKSHMAN AND SITA LEAVE FOR EXILE:
Mandavi's pov:
Hello! As you all know, I am Mandavi, the wife of Rama's brother Bharata. Rama and Bharata are two very close brothers because Rama does everything he can for Bharata and he is Bharata's older brother. The story I am going to tell you is about how Rama willingly goes into exile in order for my husband to be King of Ayodhya. The story begins when the four happily married couples return to Ayodhya.
Bharata and I have just gotten married, along with Rama and Sita, Lakshmana and Urmila, and Satrughna and Shrutakirti. We are arriving to Ayodhya and the people of Ayodhya are extremely happy for the brothers, especially their father Dasaratha. At this point, Dasaratha tells us that he has been thinking about announcing his successor and after thinking about it, he knows that Rama is the only son that he wants to choose. He then announces that Rama will be crowned King immediately. Bharata and I are extremely happy for Rama, becaus he will be a great King!
When we return to our home, I overhear Kaikeyi, my husband's mother, and her maid talking. They are speaking of a few weeks ago when Rama's coronation was announced to Ayodhya. After hearing the news of Rama's coronation, Kaikeyi's maid, Manthara, feels that Kausalya will show off to Kaikeyi that she is the mother of a King. Manthara thinks that Kaikeyi does not understand that Kausalya will do this. Because of the way our Mother-in-Laws treat each of Dasaratha's sons, my sisters and I all believe that Rama is their favorite son. Having Rama as their step-son, I feel like my husband does not get treated equally by them. But Rama does his job to make his brothers feel like they mean the world to him. But because Rama is the eldest, I think that after Manthara tells these things to Kaikeyi, Kaikeyi is furious because for years she has loved Rama more than Bharata. But the Manthara I know doesn't listen and would just keep poisoning Kaikeyi's mind until she finally thinks to herself that she does not love Rama more than Bharata. After this Kaikeyi sent me and my husband to his grandfather's place.
Later, she storms to Dasaratha to demand that he treat Bharata better. I know Bharata would never take anything away from his brother Rama, but he cannot stop Kaikeyi from doing this because none of us are in Ayodhya; we are on our honeymoon at this oint with Bharata's grandfather. Kaikeyi demands two things: that Bharata be crowned King of Ayodhya and that Rama be sent into exile. Dasaratha hates that Kaikeyi has requested this as her two wishes. But even if it kills him, he must agree to it as he previously told her she can have any two things she wishes. I think Dasaratha's loyalty to his promises is where his four sons get their loyalty. So Dasaratha tells Kaikeyi that he will summon Bharata in the morning because Rama does not have greed for the crown and will much rather make his brother Bharata happy. Taking action, Dasaratha sends Rama into exile. Rama takes Sita with him as his companion. Lakshmana in turn also cries, trying to persuade Rama not to go and asks him how he can leave him. After Rama tells his little brother Lakshmana that he must go, Lakshmana tells Rama that he considers Rama even greater than their father and mother and that he will go into exile with Rama. However, Lakshmana does not want Urmila to come because it could be too dangerous for her. I think Urmila and Sita should both stay here with me because a forest is not the place for ladies like us. But Sita decides to go with Rama and I respect her decision.
In the morning when Dasaratha's messenger comes to deliver the message to Bharata and me, Bharata says we have to go back to Ayodhya right away. He is outraged at his mother and is mortified. He argues and yells at his mother for doing such a thing. While I sit in the room listening to him, he asks her to bring Rama back to Ayodhya, but she refuses. He asks me if he can go to the forest to retrieve Rama. After crying for a bit, I allow him to go. I want to go with him but he does not let me; he tells me that someone must stay with Urmila. Bharata goes on his quest to find Rama. When he returns home to me, he tells me what happened in the forest. He tells me that Rama refuses to come back to Ayodhya because it is against Kaikeyi's wishes. Bharata is very disappointed at this. However, he adds that Rama promised him that he will return immediately when his fourteen years are finished. Even though this also disappoints Bharata, he agrees to only rule Ayodhya as Rama's representative, not as King. Although I think that Rama is being stubborn for not coming back to Ayodhya, it is also the brotherly thing to do as Kaikeyi wants my husband to be king, not Rama.
In Ramayan every emotion has a great importance . Love of Bharat towards his elder brother Rama is one of the important phases of the great epic The Ramayana
