It's a Star Plus show after all, and I won't be surprised if SKR tones down its characterization of the characters. Starbharat was the same at first with Draupadi, but after half the show, they made her into the typical Star Plus weepy heroine. 😆

Interesting observations! I am loving this Ramayana as this is bringing forth meaning to some of common day issues and provide a deeper interpretation of Ramayana than any other version I have seen. Some may view it too modern but it provides some of the answers I look for in my scriptures! All the actors are doing a superb job and I am addicted to this serial. - Jai Shri Ram

@Janaki, I did not particularly like the placement of the scene between Ram and Sita and I do agree with what you have written..
However I do not think Sita said she disliked her other names.. She just preferred being called as Sita instead of being addressed as 'Janak Putri' all the time as Sita gives her a sense of individuality (in her words).. It is like saying.. don't call me Miss but call me by my name.
The example to explain her independence even in togetherness could have been better...

I agree this show highlights common days issues but deep interpretation, definitely not. this show is no where close to Ramayana.

That just doesn't make sense though, whatever the justification. Back in those days, all the names an individual holds are equal to her identity as her given name. Sita, Janaki, Janakputri, Janaknandini, Maithili, Vaidehi, Bhumija, are all equally her name, and Sita would have no objection to being called by those names.

All this talk of individuality is totally a modern concept, anyone can see that. CVs are trying to show Sita as an independent woman, but in those days, people were not independent, neither men nor women. They all lived in huge families which were dependent on one another. Ram was no more independent than Sita. They both dedicated their lives to each other, their family, and the praja.

Individuality is itself a western concept, and it's spread in India only recently. Even 20 years ago it was totally non-existent, what to say of 1000s of years ago when the Ramayana took place!

So for Sita to say she wants to be known by her own name is totally false and would never have happened.

@ram ki jhanki...read this article about women status during vedic times...http://www.hinduismtoday.com/modules/smartsection/item.php?itemid=5566
Women had equal status as men...it was only after india was invaded by mughals and britishers they were forced to change their status. They had to stay covered and learn the art of taking care of family .

India had a very rich culture...and education system too. And i believe it becoz i have heard about it from my grandparents.
