Nice thread! So far the show is pretty good and the introduction of Mithila is superb. The guy playing Raja Janak is amazing, he really suits the role well. 👏 It was also interesting to see the relations between Ayodhya and Mithila with the transference of grains.

The overall episode is good, and the introductions of the characters is interesting, but I dislike the portrayal of Kaushalya so far as this bitter queen with anger towards her husband.

I have nothing against the fact that they showed the Shanta story in this Ramayan, because it is a popular and well known story, BUT Kaushalya was a very kind and happy woman who treated her husband with the utmost respect and love even though she knew Kaikeyi was his favorite wife. Actually, Sumitra is the queen who is occasionally jealous of Kaikeyi and goes to Kaushalya with complaints of their husband's unfairness, but Kaushalya always assured Sumitra that Dashrath was a fair and kind ruler, and not to think bad about their husband.

Kaushalya is supposed to be kind, wise and just. Why else would Lord Vishnu have been born to her? A woman would have to have an ideal character to bear God in her womb, and the way Nikhil Sinha portrayed Kaushalya, she seems like a very bitter and unhappy woman. Didn't like that very much.

Hello Janaki. 😊
Thank you for informing about Kaushalya. I am really looking forward to more knowledge from you because I personally know very little about Ramayana.

On topic First episode was good. It definitely caught my attention and I am up for it. I really loved the background music. The way they showed Sita's birth, I was ethrilled. But I really want to ask if Ayodhya and Mithila were really connected before Ram-Sita wedding or it's just their portrayal in the show?

Thanks for opening the Episode Discussion Thread Sahana... 😃

I'm literally spellbound after watching the episode. It was such a treat to watch.
I liked how everything was shown in details & even some portion of the day-to-day palace life was shown. Each of the 3 queens were given importance & something was shown about them to understand their character better.
I agree with Janaki di, I didn't like the bitter woman portrayal of Kaushalya.
I loved the Sumitra introduction scene, though I was expecting Kaushalya to say the things that she said to Dasarath. Dasarath's inner turmoil regarding his sons was beautifully depicted.
Another character who deserves mention is that of Raja Janak. ⭐️👏
The opening sequence was goose-bump raising. The utter helpless & pathetic condition of the citizens was superbly portrayed. *Hats off*
This one episode only has whetted my appetite & I'm sure to be a regular viewer from now on. 😃

Regarding today's episode
1) The sets are amazing. For eg: Depiction of Ayodhya, Mithila and Vasishta rishi's gurukul. Liked the way they showed south Indian style temple gopuram's in the ashram. Have never seen such depictions in previous versions of Ramayan. Not sure Ayodhya and Mithila had such good connections at the time of Sita's birth itself. I just hope they don't show Sita falling in love with Ram from childhood itself..

2) They brought out that Rama had an elder sister - Shanta. This was not touched in previous versions of Ramayan. Great research 😊 . They should also go into why she was abandoned/given away by her parents.

3)Maharishi Ashtavakra's depiction is good. He is the same guy who played Dadhichi in Mahadev.

4) Had an apprehension they will make Kaikeyi a villain from the beginning itself but they are sticking to the script. Kaushalya was more independent minded in today's episode otherwise she has been depicted as the demure, kindly, caring woman in other versions of Ramayan.

5)Urmila is shown as the intelligent queen here. And manthra (for a change) looks good 😊

6)Narayana appearing before the crow circling Ram is good. Actually, in Valmiki's Ramayan, Rama is never aware of his true identity. He always behaves like an ordinary human unlike Krishna who started performing miracles from birth. So, not sure which way they will take Ram here.

7)Vasishta maharishi is the same guy who played Arjuna in Ramanand Sagar's Krishna. All characters are bang on 👏

8)Next episode they show Rama rescuing his brothers ? And performing stunts..like Bahubali 😃

9)I felt Janak's finding of Sita was rushed.. It came bang in the last few minutes of the episode. Still.. no complaints 😊.. Till now, it is the best version of Ramayan I have seen..But should wait for the other episodes to make a more informed judgement 😃

I look forward to Sita's childhood because I have read that it is not touched unlike Ram's childhood which has been depicted in many stories.
The first episode has set the bar really high and now they have to keep us hooked by smart projections and sensible portrayal. I was expecting a lot and it lived up to my expectations in the first episode.

They should also go into why she was abandoned/given away by her parents. Actually, the story of Shanta is a folk story, like that of Ram-Hanuman yudh. It's not there in the original versions, so if you want a detailed version of this story, they have to add fiction to make it more dramatic. There is no actual version that has Shanta's adoption in its full.

6)Narayana appearing before the crow circling Ram is good. Actually, in Valmiki's Ramayan, Rama is never aware of his true identity. He always behaves like an ordinary human unlike Krishna who started performing miracles from birth. So, not sure which way they will take Ram here. Actually, this is not true. In Valmiki Ramayan, it never says anywhere that Ram was unaware of his divine identity. He was always aware, or else he could never have done such divine deeds like turning Ahalya from stone to human. He was aware, but he never told anyone. He behaved like a human and suffered like a human, but he and Devi Sita always knew of their divine origins. We cannot have Ramayan without its divine interventions. We'd be missing out on a huge chunk of the story, because Ramayan itself is an epic of connecting with the divine.

Kaushalya was more independent minded in today's episode otherwise she has been depicted as the demure, kindly, caring woman in other versions of Ramayan. See, this is what I don't like. In order to make a character more relatable to "today's women", I don't support them changing a character personality, because by making Kaushalya bitter and resentful, they have destroyed her greatness. How can they ever redeem her now? So are they planning to teach the younger generation that Queen Kaushalya was a bitter and resentful woman? Is what how our next generation is going to grow up learning?

Epi started in sad circumstances with an equally sad bg tune. But slowly they started showing rays of hope, positivity, in form of Sumitra in Ayodhya.
Guru Ashtavakra- what a perfect choice of the actor 👏 Rishi Dadhichi of DKDM is rishi Ashtavakra here. His words of wisdom- what are your own efforts in solving this problem? So trure. King Janak's own hard work cab yield proper result. Wish they show how Janak started considering rishi Ashtavakra as his guru after he came to his Rajya sabha for the first time.
Kag Bhushundi, seeing Ram with Vishnuji in bg was a perfect intro of Ram. Kaikeyi not falling for Manthara's words & her answers of being as happy as Kaushalya for Ram was perfect.
Guru Vashishtha's reasoning to Bhushundi of why Vishnuji had to take birth as a Human was quite good.
Hope all future epi are as impressive as this one.

My review😊Overall a good episode.!

Honestly I didn't like the promos...
But as I love mythological stories I wanted to give a try...
First episode pleasantly surprised me.

As of now I'm not keeping very high expectations as I didn't like few recent mythological shows... ihv my own fears... So I'll judge episode wise...

The parts I loved...

Ashtavakra n rajarshi janak conversation..
Few Dialogues were too good...
👏
Then while making golden plough wen janak said ye mera akhiri prayas hai ...ye bhi viphal hua toh main raj paat chod doonga... And then sunayana donates her necklace...for the making of plough...that was good direction...as if she was saying even she I'll leave all comforts n accompany him...

And of course the superb scene of sita janm... Truly loved it...
The glow in face... N then it started raining... It was an awesome scene!

OK things I didn't appreciate much...

Rama looked like 7-8 yrs old...
Thoda chota dikhate toh acha tha...as sita was just born na...

Then while ploughing the field there were no purohits near janak.. As it was actually a bhumi yagna...ek purohit hota scene would HV looked complete...
Where was sage shatanand?!

They should he shown RAM birth as well thoda completeness aata.. But its ok...we seen lot of times on TV so I don't mind

I don't mind deviations from original epic as long as they stick to original characterisation... Even if they add few fictional stories but show how great n idealistic were Sri Rama n Sita maa... I would definitely don't mind watching such deviations...

good episode... Missed little bit of starting... I guess Rani Kaushalya n raja Dasharath entrance n all...

Costumes were good...
I know janak was rajrshi but he was king as well ...so I wanted dasharath like costumes...
But chalega... Maybe they wanted to show drought n all... Aur aise mei I guess makers didn't want to show janak in heavy costumes so it looked good...

I'm not big sucker of visuals... Story is more important for me

Actors did a good job! Especially janak n ashtavakra...

Last but not the least ...shat shat naman to sage valmiki... Who wrote this gr8 epic ...n we becoz of him we know shri Rama n Sita maa story...
Even after so many hundreds of yrs ...it has the same magic...
Ppl get so attracted n attached to it..
So many times Ramayana made on TV n so many movies made on it but still even now wen we see sita janma Rama jamna... We get goosebumps...We cry seeing ram seeta sufferings...
Hope makers do justice to it...
First impression was good😊
