Nice thread! So far the show is pretty good and the introduction of Mithila is superb. The guy playing Raja Janak is amazing, he really suits the role well. 👏 It was also interesting to see the relations between Ayodhya and Mithila with the transference of grains.
The overall episode is good, and the introductions of the characters is interesting, but I dislike the portrayal of Kaushalya so far as this bitter queen with anger towards her husband.I have nothing against the fact that they showed the Shanta story in this Ramayan, because it is a popular and well known story, BUT Kaushalya was a very kind and happy woman who treated her husband with the utmost respect and love even though she knew Kaikeyi was his favorite wife. Actually, Sumitra is the queen who is occasionally jealous of Kaikeyi and goes to Kaushalya with complaints of their husband's unfairness, but Kaushalya always assured Sumitra that Dashrath was a fair and kind ruler, and not to think bad about their husband.Kaushalya is supposed to be kind, wise and just. Why else would Lord Vishnu have been born to her? A woman would have to have an ideal character to bear God in her womb, and the way Nikhil Sinha portrayed Kaushalya, she seems like a very bitter and unhappy woman. Didn't like that very much.

2) They brought out that Rama had an elder sister - Shanta. This was not touched in previous versions of Ramayan. Great research 😊 . They should also go into why she was abandoned/given away by her parents. Actually, the story of Shanta is a folk story, like that of Ram-Hanuman yudh. It's not there in the original versions, so if you want a detailed version of this story, they have to add fiction to make it more dramatic. There is no actual version that has Shanta's adoption in its full.
6)Narayana appearing before the crow circling Ram is good. Actually, in Valmiki's Ramayan, Rama is never aware of his true identity. He always behaves like an ordinary human unlike Krishna who started performing miracles from birth. So, not sure which way they will take Ram here. Actually, this is not true. In Valmiki Ramayan, it never says anywhere that Ram was unaware of his divine identity. He was always aware, or else he could never have done such divine deeds like turning Ahalya from stone to human. He was aware, but he never told anyone. He behaved like a human and suffered like a human, but he and Devi Sita always knew of their divine origins. We cannot have Ramayan without its divine interventions. We'd be missing out on a huge chunk of the story, because Ramayan itself is an epic of connecting with the divine.Kaushalya was more independent minded in today's episode otherwise she has been depicted as the demure, kindly, caring woman in other versions of Ramayan. See, this is what I don't like. In order to make a character more relatable to "today's women", I don't support them changing a character personality, because by making Kaushalya bitter and resentful, they have destroyed her greatness. How can they ever redeem her now? So are they planning to teach the younger generation that Queen Kaushalya was a bitter and resentful woman? Is what how our next generation is going to grow up learning?
