Letters Unsent - Mauli/Kunal Drabble
Dear Kunal,
Hi! It feels so strange that I'm writing this letter to you to express stuff I would never be able to tell you in reality. It's unlikely you will ever read this, but I need to get this off my chest.
Ours has been one hell of a relationship, hasn't it? A solid friendship, relationship, a conflicted couple, a divorced couple, civil people, and now sort of friends again. You have been the most important part of my life. I told u that you taught me life's worst lessons. I won't deny, u left me so broken that I was never sure I could get back up again. Ishan and Mishti helped me survive. What I didnt tell you that you also gave me life's best memories. The days I spent with you after you lost your memory made me uncomfortable at first because I was afraid of losing myself to you again. And I couldnt be hurt. Not again Kunal, I wouldn't even survive this time. But when the defenses crumbled, it's like we were our old selves again and I allowed myself that fantasy before reality sunk in. I enjoyed those days because I knew they were limited. What I'm saying is, kunal, u broke my heart but the broken pieces continued to love you. I loved you, with or without you. Only you. There is no one else I love. Yes Ishan taught me how love should be executed, and it's meaning as it should be in an ideal world. But I'm far from ideal. I told u kunal that day with Nandini - Mai nahi hu mahan. Mai banna bhi nahi chahti. Mai bus tumhe chahti hu kunal.
That day at the airport u supported and accepted my decision whole heartedly. You all lauded it. I had done the right thing. I had chosen Ishan. I just want you to know I had chosen his love and MY commitment. Kyuki mai Mauli hu Kunal nahi, aur mai Apne promises nahi todti. I didnt choose love like you did. I couldn't break someone's heart. I couldn't be you. I didnt choose my love. I didnt choose you.
I'm just glad Ishan was kind enough to let us still be a part of each other's lives. That way I can still see you, even if from afar. I will know you are doing fine. I need to know that if I am to go on with my life. I need to know you are alive and doing well. That's all. There may not be much point to this rant, but was there one to our story, Kunal? Yours and mine?
In the end I just want to clarify again -I loved you, I love you and I will always love you.
