To create more drama when Kunal finds out he lost his memory - which will be now once he sees the date. I'm surprised he hasn't figured it out by now... but it's more like a plothole. After all, the roads should have changed, movies probably changed, the government even probably changed. There has to be lots of indications that time has passed.
