Ten years later...
Nandini smiled as she cleaned the blackboard and waited for the students. She found satisfaction in her students' happiness and she loved spending time with them. A few years back she decided to become a kindergarten teacher as she loved kids and spending time with them made her forget her past. And now she had been recently shifted to a very high profile school in Delhi and today was her first day at new school. At first, Nandini was a bit skeptical about joining such a high profile school as often students at such schools were spoilt brats but she changed her mind after visiting the school and now here she was, eagerly waiting for the tiny tots to join her. True enough, very soon the first graders started coming in.
"May I come in miss? Nandini turned around and looked at the owner of the voice. It was a little girl, about a five-year-old and with a bright smile on her face. For a moment her smile and confidence reminded her of certain someone and her heart thudded.
Quickly pushing aside any thoughts, she asked the little girl to enter the class. She was really amazed by the child's obedience. None of the other kids had asked for permission to enter, except this little angel. Vanya Sharma, that was the name of the little girl. She was attentive throughout the class and even during the lunch break Nandini saw her sharing her lunch box with another student. Nandini sat next to Vanya, which grabbed the little one's attention and she offered her lunch to her teacher too. Nandini chuckled at her innocent act and asked her who taught her so much at such a tender age.
"My papa says that it is good to share, Vanya said as she continued munching on the apple that her mother had given her for the lunch.
"Mumma doesn't like it when I share too much. But papa says that sharing is caring and my papa is always right, she explained and Nandini wondered why her parents had such conflicting opinions.
After the school got over, Nandini waited for all her students to get picked by their parents. Almost all the students were gone except for Vanya. She asked her if her parents were late, to which the little girl replied with great maturity saying that her parents were doctors and they sometimes get late due to the work. Nandini decided to wait with Vanya outside and went inside the classroom to grab her bag. But as soon as she stepped outside, the scene before her made her stop in her steps.
Mauli.
There she was after ten years looking as radiant as ever. With the same grace and confidence around her. She was wearing a long kurta and her hair was a bit shorter than before. Nandini was shocked to her core when Mauli hugged Vanya and she started chatting animatedly with her. And in a few minutes, Vanya left in the car that Mauli came in.
Mauli was Vanya's mother.
The realization hit Nandini and she stood rooted to the ground. Now she realized why that kid reminded her of someone and why Vanya's mother didn't want her to help anyone too much. Afterall Mauli had once helped her selflessly and she paid back in the worst way possible. She wondered whether Vanya was his daughter although they looked nothing alike. There were so many questions going around in Nandini's head but she didn't have the courage to face Mauli.
