I think he passed away and is no more. And I have a feeling he cheated on Kunal's mother but Deeda is unaware of it.

Kunal's father died sometime b4 Mauli Kunal marriage. In the episode where Mauli brings Nandini home for the first time Deeda was celebrating the day because it was for the first tine she Mauli three years back. Deeda was upset at that tine due to the sudden demise of kunal's dad and Mauli came into there life like a fresh breath of air spreading happiness into there life.
