Their silent yearning has been slowly eating him up.Their surreptious looks,Their accidental touches and always geared towards each other's coming and goings,their accidental meeting in the kitchen and dnining roo m.Fingers touching while passing on dishe s,glasses and pooja thaal i.But it is not enoug h.Kunal wanted more much mor e.They have not talked at all.They have not gazed into each other's eyes at all. "Oh!!! why is it so hard?Why is it not happening?Why is Pramela always in the kitchen and when asked for a glass,Why is Pramel getting him one?"
All in all, Nandini seems to be OK with the situation. She does not seem to be frustrated with it at all. Does she not want to talk to him? Does she not want to look into his eyes? Does she not want to be alone with him? All these questions were going through his head and he shifted in his bed to see poor smiling Mauli sleeping next to him. It is 10.30pm.The poor girl is tired and sleeping..The her cell phone rang. Mauli jerked awake from her sleep."what, What"?She grumbled sleepily and picked up her phone."Dr. Mauli?" the other side said."yes," said Mauli.Dr. Srivasthava has met with an accident and is unable to come to the hospital today. A patient has called and she is coming in with labor pains? Are you able to come and help out please? There ar 3 cases for the night, But this is an emergency."Mauli looked at the clock and said "OK,I will be there."
Kunal was already putting on his shoes and said"I will drop you."No Jana, This is going to take all night:i will drive and come back in the morning"."No Way," said Kunal. " I will drive and I will pick you up tomorrow".
Mauli and Kunal came out of the room and stopped short at seeing Nandini, Mom and Deeda sitting in the living room.
"why didnt you guys sleep?" asked Mauli.
" Oh we were talking," said Deeda.
Kunal said" I am going to drop of Mauli at the Hospital. She has 3 cases."
Mom said "Kunal, it is late Don't drive back alone Puttar. Nandini, You go with them.You can help Kunal not sleep on his way back.It is late".
A thrill of excitement rushed through Kunal.His extremities filled with anticipation. "PleaseNandini, Please don't say no".He pleaded in his mind." ha Nandu, Please come. At least I will feel better that Kunal is not alone" said Mauli. Reluctantly Nandini got up and went with them silently.
As they reached the hospital, Mauli jumped out, already in the Doctor's mode and said bye to them also reminded Kunal to go to sleep and ran into the hospital.
Kunal drove outside the hospital and turned right and drove 5 minutes and stopped outside a closed shop. He turned to look at the silent Nandini and said "come to the front Nandini. I am fed up with looking at you through the rear view mirror".Nandini stayed still for close to 2 minutes while staring at Kunal. Then she moved and opened the door, got out and moved to the front seat. and sat down. As she sat down, she was reminded of the incident when the Hijda said how their jodi looked wonderful. Kunal Changed gears and slowly moved the car forward,thrilled at the presence of Nandini near him."Say Something Nandini,"He said in his mind. But nothing came forth. Finally, he stopped near the pond where he always comes to calm his mind. He turned to look at her and said:" can we pretend it is just the two of us?'
"Can we pretend there is no Mauli, Mamma, Deeda and Rajdeep?"
"Can we pretend there there is no troouble in our hearts?
Can we pretend we were waiting to see each other?"
"Can we pretend there will be no tomorrow and that tonight is the only night we have?"
Thye looked at each other's eyes and slowly Nandini lowered her eyes and looked at kunal's fingers on the gear shift? Kunal followed her eyes and lifted his hands and covered her with his.
"yes," nandini said slowly." we can pretend."We can pretend that it is just the two of us in love with each other,noone else between us and No trouble, and I have been counting every second to see you again . Yes, we can pretend there is no tomorrow and we have only tonight. She held his hands. I have so much to tell you, So much feelings, so many words. I don't know where to start".
Kunal said How about saying"I love you, Nandini?"Nandini slowly lowered her eye s. Kunal put his fingers under her chin and lifted her chin so that she is looking straight into his eyes.
