@TM I totally agree with everything that you have written and many other members posts in this thread. This week the show has been unbearable to watch for me, especially Kunal and Nandini scenes. This entire mandir track looks so forced, illogical and clinched. Sad that Indian shows can't portray any single topic maturely and sensibly.
When I started the show, I was not very impressed with Mouli's character. She looked independent, free, was managing well between her responsibilities at home and work. Fair enough. Every woman today does that, more or less. What really made her stand out for me was the way she supported Nandini with all her heart! Her love for Nandini is so selfless and pure and the way she ensures she goes extra miles to make sure Nandini gets support in every possible way, is what made Mouli's character grow upon me. I don't find Mouli perfect and flawless, she has her own flaws, but her character is absolutely endearing to watch. The way she fearlessly takes on Rajdeep, I really enjoy watching it!! 😆
Nandini, I liked watching her right from the start, even though she was docile, meek, someone who doesn't have the courage to fight against her abuser. I could relate to her helplessness because she was in a situation from where she had no way to escape on her own. Then, the way she gradually freed herself from clutches of Rajdeep with the support from Mouli Kunal and their family, was so real and I really admired her for that. Even though she was weak, kept crying at occasions, she never irritated me as such. But.. In last couple of episodes, for the first time, I was irritated with Nandini. The way she kept insisting on fasting or walking bare foot to the temple was so clinched! If they are going to to butcher her character like this so as develop their EMA story, then I don't think I will be able to take it further. How I wished they had shown Nandini becoming independent and strong first before taking this EMA route.. Is it so easy for someone who has been through an extremely abusive relationship, to forget it so easily and quickly fall for some other man??
I never liked Kunal's character earlier, now he just makes me cringe whenever he is onscreen. So no expectations from him. There are very few occasions when he is watchable.
Lastly, I want to say something on the entertainment vs morality debate as well. This is not something specific to this show or forum only. I have seen these things in my previous Colors show/forum as well (the one which was replaced by Silsila).. IMO, saying that viewers are not going to take inspiration from the immoral things in a piece of fiction work, and are not going to practice EMA in their real life because it is shown in a fictional show, is turning blind eye to things. Ok, no one here is stupid enough to claim that viewers are going to cheat on their partners in masses all of a sudden because it is being shown that way in a show currently. But in long term, it does have its own effects on society as whole.. Shows or movies are reflection of social/cultural happenings around, and the reverse is also true to some extent. If it wasn't that way, we wouldn't have moved from era of B&W movies showing only symbolic romance to bold movies which show even lesbian/gay relationships openly, and from peaceful sensitive compassionate human beings to a society with increasingly alarming rate of crimes like frauds violence abuse and rapes everywhere.
