From the moment I started watching the show (around the ragging track) and especially after the riots I have been comparing Shaurya Sabarwal to Fitzwilliam Darcy in my head and the discussions in the EDT revealed that I wasn't the only one!

The prejudice, the intensity of emotions and that awkwardness in expressing it! Everything about Shaurya screams Darcy!

Then the library scene happened followed by the restaurant fiasco which made me realise that Shaurya wasn't all Darcy there was a part of him that was like Heathcliff from "Wuthering heights" the anger, rage and jealousy are his destructive traits.

However the silver lining is its the Darcy traits that make him redeemable! Once Darcy hears lizzie's thoughts about him he works on clarifying things and show that he has changed in certain ways too, which is what Heathcliff lacked he was too bitter and consumed in negative emotions and though Cathy loved him in her own twisted way she chose Linton for selfish reasons and to uplift Heathcliff's position in the society which ultimately destroyed everything!

Anokhi is no Cathy! In fact she is all of Lizzie bennet in her glory, just like how ultimately what mattered to Lizzie was that Darcy was a good man in love with her that's exactly what will matter to Anokhi as well however she knows that he is capable of pulling an Heathcliff and would keep making him work hard until there is only Darcy traits left.

Even though Anokhi and Shaurya are like lizzie and Darcy there is one line from Wuthering heights that really suits them "Whatever souls are made of his and mine are the same" ❤️

True! And the jealousy with ACP Aahir mirrors Darcy bellyaching about Wickham!

Heathcliff was too dark....and hopefully Anokhi's Shaurya will be redeemed before he reaches Heathcliff's state, by her never say die spirit and unconditional, unmitigated love❤️

First of all great post👏

Now, For me it's more Darcy than Heathcliff. The reason being simple that although Shaurya's traits are toxic but as you said they are not irredeemable.

Having said that, yes the library scenes happened, and no matter what happens his words will always be instilled in my heart and I will be bitter about it.

But this is about how we consumed it. Not about the growth that Shaurya can show.

Shaurya has got layers but his layers are not bitter when tried to peel off. With Heathcliff although even he had a sort of softness, but his layers were too thick, bitter and almost venomous to touch! His rage was blind, his anger toxic, and his jealousy poisonous.

With Shaurya I think he has a chance there because we get his monologues and there is a lot of introspection that can come from his part.

With Heathcliff it wasn't just there, the need to redeem wasn't strong. But with Shaurya, we are so familiar with his vulnerable walls now, that we somehow see him wanting to climb those walls by himself in future and become a better person.

Not just for Anokhi but in general.

Maybe because of Anokhi- but for himself.

You see even in his grey there is an evident tinge of white.

Even when he loses control, his ability to hold back shines.

Even when he acts pathetic, his reasons ends up diluting the impact.

Even when he holds back and try to control, his need to let go outshines every other thing.

I know it's crazy but it's there- amidst the toxicity he harbours and between the mysogeny he entertains, but it's there - shining and sparkling.

Even today, during his conversation with Anokhi he blamed himself (his own disliking for ACP, basically his own jealousy) rather than Anokhi or ACP and that speaks a lot. Although he told her that she "should" stay away from ACP but he didn't enforced that she "would" stay away from ACP

So the silver lining of hope here is too strong to ignore and say that it doesn't exist.

Because it do- the silver shining in golden. It do exist.

About Anokhi, those four words said it all. She is no Cathy. Period.

And about Shaurya and Anokhi I can only say that- the imperfection lacing the boundaries of their heart will perfect the walls of their soul and amidst uncertainties, they will shine of hope and surety.

Honestly, I loved the comparison.

However, the reason why I feel SS even the jealousy is like Darcy's jealousy is that today he did not enforce it on Anokhi that she should not meet ACP. He could have, but he said IMO you should stay away from him.

The library and restaurant scene, yes, they seem to be very out of character. But thats also because, she is the only person in front of whom he is himself. No pretence whatsoever. Darcy did have his sister and his best friend for support

Now when he is officially with her, his behaviour towards any other guy who shows interest in Anokhi will probably tell us more about his character..

Anokhi is Lizzy all the way !! Her assertiveness, ability to stand up for herself! I am sure when she is in love and is sure SS loves her as well, she will become his protector and believe in him even when the whole world is against him..

So far, their love story tugs at my heart strings simply because they seem REAL.. Imperfect yet perfect together !❤️

I see more Darcy than Heathcliff. The parallels are simply wonderful.

Darcy had disliked Lizzie initially because of prejudice arising from class differences. But later he discovered beauty in those flaws that had been so obvious to him initially. Shaurya had hated Anokhi because of his prejudiced views. He thought that she was a know it all and too meddlesome but he later started to observe the beauty in these flaws.

Darcy had a whole checklist full of qualities that an ideal woman ought to have and Lizzie didn't fit the list at all. Yet there was something so pleasing about her that he just couldn't ignore. Same goes for Shaurya. As per his old checklist, Shagun was the perfect choice yet he fell for Anokhi. Bingley's sisters left no stone unturned to humiliate Lizzie in Darcy's presence but Darcy only got more drawn to her. Same with Shaurya's sisters and family members taking turns to bother Anokhi but each time Shaurya defended her with more conviction.

Both Darcy and Shaurya grow bitter when their lady loves defend the people they despise and criticise them instead - Wickham in Lizzie's case, Ahir and Aastha in Anokhi's case. When Lizzie and Anokhi pointed out their flaws, Darcy and Shaurya decide to work on them. Though our suave professor still has a long way to go. His journey of self redemption has only begun. And it's going to take him quite some time before he redeems himself completely.

Hopefully we'll get to see another parallel. When Lady Catherine, Darcy's aunt, attempts to drive the lead couple apart, Darcy cuts her off. Hoping to see Shaurya do the same when Devi tries to drive Ano away.

As for Anokhi, she's Lizzie through and through. Disgusted with their parent's obsession to get them married (Lizzie's mom, Anokhi's dad) they don't hesitate to go against their family and rebel against a match that they are unable to accept. Anokhi's no pushover. She'll hold her own against Devi and the sisters, just like Lizzie did. Both women are ready to do whatever it takes for the happiness of their elder sister (Jane for Lizzie, Babli for Anokhi).

Shree🤗

True! He did not enforce his opinion on her today's episode and in only that aspect his jealousy is like Darcy's and from now onwards that's how it's going to be as well because that's growth from both the library as well as yesterday's restaurant episode I believe.

I agree! Based on what we have seen so far he has more of Darcy in him! And I love the comparison you have made between Shaurya's and Heathcliff's layers with the latter there was no scope for redemption he was too bitter for that and with Shaurya the light shines through!

I was actually rewatching the ragging episode and realised that he actually had tears when Anokhi hugs him, it was not even a remotely romantic hug or scene he was simply being empathetic towards someone who had been through such distress! This if I am not wrong is a first on ITV, the nuances added to his character is brilliant.

Thank you Rima! I simply love this analysis!

The checklist aspect is absolutely true Darcy did have opinions on how woman should be etc. as in attributes they need to have or somethng like that right? Which is when lizzie calls him and states "its no wonder he knows very few well qualified woman" or something along this line. It's been a while since I read the book so at this point I don't even know if I am trying to quote the book or movie😆

And it is an interesting comparison that you have made between lady Catherine and Devi, I want to see Anokhi stand her ground and Shaurya cut her off as well!

Also regarding Shaurya's sisters it's a pity that neither of them are sweet like Georgiana was, I hope the makers decide to show some growth for them as well because their mean girls act is such a cliche and we already have too many negative as well as women against women characters especially with Shagun's impending entry.
