The checklist aspect is absolutely true Darcy did have opinions on how woman should be etc. as in attributes they need to have or somethng like that right? Which is when lizzie calls him and states "its no wonder he knows very few well qualified woman" or something along this line. It's been a while since I read the book so at this point I don't even know if I am trying to quote the book or movie😆

And it is an interesting comparison that you have made between lady Catherine and Devi, I want to see Anokhi stand her ground and Shaurya cut her off as well!

Also regarding Shaurya's sisters it's a pity that neither of them are sweet like Georgiana was, I hope the makers decide to show some growth for them as well because their mean girls act is such a cliche and we already have too many negative as well as women against women characters especially with Shagun's impending entry.

Caroline lists out the qualities on behalf of Darcy - languages, crochet, music, and a certain type of attitude. Then Darcy adds the bit re reading books and having a sharp mind. Then Lizzie's reply was something like - "I'm no longer surprised at you having known only half a dozen such women. Rather I doubt on you having known any at all." I remember in the movie this is when Bingley cracks up.

There's also another parallel between Kitty-Bebo and Kitty-Lydia. Maybe somebody in the writing team is lowkey a Jane Austen fan lol.

And I agree the overdose of negative female characters is just too much. I just hope we won't see them conspiring all the time. I also want to see Anokhi yearn for Darcy believing that she's already lost him. I think we'll get to see something similar once Shagun starts doing her thing.

From the moment I started watching the show (around the ragging track) and especially after the riots I have been comparing Shaurya Sabarwal to Fitzwilliam Darcy in my head and the discussions in the EDT revealed that I wasn't the only one!

The prejudice, the intensity of emotions and that awkwardness in expressing it! Everything about Shaurya screams Darcy!

Then the library scene happened followed by the restaurant fiasco which made me realise that Shaurya wasn't all Darcy there was a part of him that was like Heathcliff from "Wuthering heights" the anger, rage and jealousy are his destructive traits.

However the silver lining is its the Darcy traits that make him redeemable! Once Darcy hears lizzie's thoughts about him he works on clarifying things and show that he has changed in certain ways too, which is what Heathcliff lacked he was too bitter and consumed in negative emotions and though Cathy loved him in her own twisted way she chose Linton for selfish reasons and to uplift Heathcliff's position in the society which ultimately destroyed everything!

Anokhi is no Cathy! In fact she is all of Lizzie bennet in her glory, just like how ultimately what mattered to Lizzie was that Darcy was a good man in love with her that's exactly what will matter to Anokhi as well however she knows that he is capable of pulling an Heathcliff and would keep making him work hard until there is only Darcy traits left.

Even though Anokhi and Shaurya are like lizzie and Darcy there is one line from Wuthering heights that really suits them "Whatever souls are made of his and mine are the same" ❤️

Beautiful comparison Vaish! ❤️❤️ Same.. in my head Shaurya = Darcy And Anokhi = Lizzie , although Ahir<>wickham 😁 Loved reading everybody’s take on them and glad to find other Austen fans!

I was actually rewatching the ragging episode and realised that he actually had tears when Anokhi hugs him, it was not even a remotely romantic hug or scene he was simply being empathetic towards someone who had been through such distress! This if I am not wrong is a first on ITV, the nuances added to his character is brilliant.

It was one of the purest moments of the show for me, so brilliantly done. Shakhi had my ❤️

Love, simply love this discussion! P&P, Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy are the gold standard of epic love stories spanning class differences. My all-time favorite❤️, and normally, I am quite particular about comparisons.

But in the case of Anokhi and Shaurya, the comparison is not only apt, but perhaps even needed. Anokhi's independent streak, her "decided opinions", her love for her elder sister, her desire to follow nothing but her heart...mirror what Lizzie was all about. Same is true of Shaurya's arrogance, his pride, his haughtiness (at least in the initial episodes), his overriding sense of status and station in life...being above everyone around him...and his falling like a ton of bricks for his Miss Bhalla...one hundred percent Mr. Darcy.

That being said, there is an important distinction between Shaurya and Mr. Darcy in that Mr. Darcy was never a misogynist...from the start, even while he fully frowned upon Lizzie's family and their antics, he was smitten by her "fine eyes" and finer spirits and verve. Within the context of the era they lived in, he was just fine with strong women characters...what he couldn't stand was simpering and fawning that Miss Bingley and others displayed around him. He had nothing but fond memories of his own mother and held her up as his idea of an "accomplished woman". Yes, he had notions of what a well-behaved lady should comport herself, but I'd like to think that a present day Mr. Darcy would be enlightened and fair-minded enough to stand behind a smart, educated, self-willed and independent woman. He would hate to see any woman subservient to her man.

Shaurya's issue is not that he hasn't seen strong women in his life (not just Aastha, but even his beloved Badi Ma is plenty strong who rules the household with an iron fist), rather it is his father's weakness that has colored his thinking. His real issue is that he doesn't want to be Shaan ever in his life...a weak man who could neither stand up to/for his wife nor his family. He doesn't want any woman to have that kind of power over him...the power to be able to be independent enough to leave him. Hence the "housewife" hangup.
