Ladakh is a land of various ancient beautiful Buddhist monasteries. Majority of the regions of Ladakh are dominated by Buddhist population and also have a great influence of Tibetan culture. Ladakh shares its boundary with Tibet and is also known by the name of Little Tibet. Monasteries are known by the name of Gompas and house various Buddhist paintings, artifacts and religious literature.

Famous Buddhist Monasteries of Ladakh

Hemis Gompa

It is highest of all the monasteries of Ladakh, which is located at a distance of 45 km South of Leh, the capital of Ladakh. It was built in 1630 AD and houses the largest Tangka painting in Ladakh. It is famous for Tse Chu annual festival, where culture and tradition of Buddhists can be seen in dance performances done by wearing beautiful bright dresses along with masks.

Shanti Stupa

The White domed Shati Stupa was built by a Japanese Buddhist organisation to promote world peace on completion of 2500 years of Buddhism. It was completed in 1985. Shanti Stupa is a favourite spot for viewing sunrise and sunset.

Namgyal Tsemo Gompa

It was built in 1430 AD and has a rich collection of Buddhist literature, art, manuscripts and images of Buddha in its three storey high structure. One can have the birds' eye view of Leh town from this monastery,

Spituk Monastery

It is located on a high hill at a distance of around 18 km from Leh. It is known for the collection of various ancient Buddhist paintings and artifacts. An annual festival is organised in Spituk monastery in the eleventh month of Tibetan calendar from 17th to 19th day.

Lamayuru Monastery

This monastery is located on the rocky mountain at a distance of around 125 km from Leh towards West. It is also known by the name of Swastika monastery. The annual festival attracts a large number of visitors in the second month of Tibetan calendar.

Alchi Gompa

Alchi Gompa is located on the bank of Indus river and is the only monastery of Ladakh built on flat ground. It showcases the Kashmiri art and architecture in its construction. There are various beautiful images of Lord Buddha inside the gompa.

Shey Monastery

This monastery served as the summer palace of Ladakh Kings and is located to the South of Leh. The main attraction of the monastery is the 12 feet high gold plated statue of Shakya Muni Buddha. Aur jab DuSha ka MargPradashak (Guide) unhe leke ek Gompa pe jata hai...toh kismat se wahan pe bahat badi mela lagi huyee hoti hai...yeh sab dekh DuSha bahut khush hote hein...
Ab unka margpradashak un dono ko leke Lord Budhha ki darshan karata hai...
Dono bahut shradha se unhe pranaam karte hein....aur apne rajjya ki samaridhi ki dua maangte hein...
Phir dono mele mein ake ghumne ka man banate hein...tabhi unka margpradashak unhe ek dukan ke paas leke jata hai, jahan pe sundar sundar tibbatiy gehnon ki pradashani lagi hai...
Shakuntala ko itni agrah se un gehnon ko nihaarta hua dekh Dushyant uske liye ek sundar sa gale ka haar khareedte hein...aur use badi pyaar se Shakuntala ko pehnate bhi hein...Shaku is se bahut khush ho jati hai...par use apni kartavya ki gyan bhi rehta hai,toh woh Maharaj Puru aur Maharani ke liye bhi wahan se sundar se uphaar khareed karti hai...aur haan apni priya sakhi Anu aur Priya ke liye bhi kuchh gehne leti hai...phir Karan aur Rishi Kanva ke liye Dush uphaar lete hein...

Jab Ladakh ki mela se itne sare uphaar khareed kar DuSha apni margpradashak ke sath apne rehne ki jagah jo ke ek ateeb sundar Dharamshala hai, wahan laut rahey hote hein, tabhi unhe apni Amarnath yatra mein mile ek yuva dampatti (Young married couple) dikhai dete hein...

Aur unhe dekh Shakuntala bahut khush ho jati hai aur puchhti hai:

Kya aap log bhi Ladakh ki khubsoorat vadiyon mein birajmaan Bhagban Budhha ki darshan ke liye aye the?

Tabhi woh dampatti use kehte hein:

Haan hum is ati prasidh aur prachin Bhagban Budhha ki gompas ki darshan karne aye the....kya aap log darshan kar chuke hein?

Tabhi Dushyant bolte hein:

Han hum log darshan samapt kar punah apni griha prasthan karne ja rahey hein..

Tabhi unme se jo mahila thi woh Shaku se bolti hai:

Kya tumne Kashmir ki Dal Lake dekh chuki ho?

Toh Shaku ascharya chakit hoke puchhti hai:

Yeh Dal Lake kya hai...hume nahin pata...aur hum toh wahan gaye bhi nahinha...

Yeh sunke unki unki margpradashak unhe kehta hai...
Dal Lake yani Kashmir ka ek bahut prasidh hrad hai...aur wahan lakdi se bana shikara bhi hota hai..kya aap log wahan jana chahoge?
Yeh sunke Shakuntala asha bhari najron se Dush ko dekhti hai...take agar Dush raji ho toh woh jagah woh dono dekh sake... Aur bhala Shaku ki ashayon ko Dush kaise na pura kare... After they got to know about the beautiful dal lake from the young married couple, dush and shak were very excited to go there.

Dush after getting the detail information of the travelling routes..went to Sonmarg and from there proceed to Srinagar.

It was afternoon when dush shak reached the Dal lake. They found it the most beautiful place on the earth. It appeared as they have come to the heaven.

They checked in a house boat. A single house boat in Dal lake costs 15 lacks and above...but this is certainly no prob for dush 😉

Dush shak went inside house boat. Shak was amazed to see it. She gave hug to dush. (U may check out the pics of house boat from pg 1)

The wood work on this boat was so beautiful that can not be described in words.
Dush: Sapney toh humare bhi saare poorey huay jab humein tumhara pyar mila toh yun laga jessay sab kuch mil gaya ho.

Dush and Shak went for a shikara ride for 2-3 hours and saw some gardens in the middle of lake.

Dush and shak love adventures toh learned to drive a shikara too 😆
Then Shak did some shopping in shikara. She bought kashmiri hand embroidery wali saree for maharani as gift. She also bought some other kashmiri gifts for maharaj, and not to forget veer and gauri too.

It is evening time. Dush and Shak are enjoying to see the most beautiful scene of sun set. House boat wala had prepared the mouth watering kashmiri pulav for dush shak.

Ok Mouli now you may continue....
