Tara's hand remained pressing against his chest, feeling his heart and then with unblinking eyes, she slowly removed it and placing it on her chest looked at him and said, ' Feel my heart. Please, I beg you mon ame. Please do....'

Saying ok, Dhana placed his hand on her chest and looked at Tara who looked at him and asked, ' Can you feel my heart and how fast it is racing and flailing itself against my chest? '

Then much to his surprise she placed her hand on his and gripping it firmly, slowly moved it down across her breast and asked, ' Can you feel it now? My heart feels like it is going to explode ' and when Dhana nodded, she asked in a confused voice, ' Why is your heart not beating like mine? Does that mean that you are not feeling what I am feeling?'

Taken aback by this sudden and unexpected question that Tara had asked him, Dhana searched desperately for an answer that would suit the situation and also satisfy Tara but he knew better and so finally deciding that as always, honesty was the best way, told her that he was different.

' Different? ' Tara asked and continued, ' Of course, I know you are different from other men for I learnt that firsthand when I went against you. You are the first man and the only man who defeated me and if that was not embarrassing, confusing and painful, the manner in which you picked me up like a toy and swatted me away was humiliating.

She smiled and said, ' I am happy that you came and did what you did. Yes, you are different but you too have a heart like I do and like all humans in this living world. '

Dhana chuckled and told her that if he did not have a heart then he wouldn't be alive and Tara placing her hand on his chest, ' Then why is it not beating like mine. My heart is beating so fast that I fear that it might explode any moment . But, here you are with a heart that is beating or dare I say, barely beating. Why? How? '

' Tara, when I said I was different, I was talking about heart and other organs but here ' tapping his head, ' I am different here and let me also tell you that there are a few others like me who are far more stronger than me and more capable than me'.

Her eyes filled with tears and her lips quivered erratically like a dying heart that does not know what to do as its final moments arrive.

' Does that mean that you are not capable of love and loving me, mon ame?'

Dhana's reaction was instant and native in tone as he burst out laughing and he looked at her and said, ' Loosu, loosu. Aiyo unakku eppadi puriya vekkarathu ' and seeing the alarm in her eyes, he quickly apologised and told her, ' I am sorry for slipping into my native language Tamil '.

' Apology accepted but only if you translate what you just said so that I too can understand your thoughts'.

' I was wondering how I was going to explain myself to a silly little girl like you'.

Unaware to Tara, the tears that had seeded themselves now surged and flowed out of her eyes and ignoring them she asked him, ' Are all men like you?'

' No and I have not met any woman like you. You are unique, beautiful and ....'

Smiling sadly, ' and yet... your heart does not beat for me.'

Then finally realising that she was crying, Tara felt her cheeks and asked Dhana in a sad and broken voice, ' Is this what love does to a person ? Is that what I have to look forward to all my life?'

Placing a finger on her lips, he let it remain for a few moments and then removing a kerchief from his jacket, used it to gently wipe her tears away and said, ' I have one word for you right now and that word is Complicated'.

The word complicated came about in the 1640's to mean "tangled" or "difficult to unravel." This makes sense, considering it came from the Latin verb complicāre, meaning "to fold together." Consider that something with many folds is more complicated than something flat.

' Complicated? Why? ' Tara asked him sadly but now her tone was tinged with frustration and anger. Then her eyes opened wide in shock and she gasped, ' You are married? That is the reason, right. You are holding back because you are committed to someone else.

Her eyes blinking furiously, she shook her head and mumbled, ' It's okay. I don't mind it. I have no right or choice in how you lived your life before me. I don't blame you. I blame myself and my fate and importantly my mother for this suffering.

Wiping her tears, ' I don't know what I am supposed to do now ' and looking at him, ' mon ame, I love you and knowing myself better than anybody else, I know that I will not love anybody else with this heart for I am not capable of it. So....'

Dhana's eyes were all serious as he waited for her to finish and when she did not, he repeated her last word, ' So................. go on. Complete it'.

' So, I don't mind being your girl friend, lover and I don't mind if you take me as your second wife.'

' Are you sure about it, Tara? Are you sure that you are capable of such a big sacrifice? What happens if you get angry and lose it?'

' Angry, why would I get angry and that too at you, the love of my life. My first love and my only love'.

Dhana's lips quivered slightly as he mused over the past few days and asked her, ' Tara, have you forgotten who you are and what you are capable of? '

With eyes full of remorse and guilt, Tara nodded and accepted Dhana's point. ' No, I have not forgotten what I am and what I am capable of but then I am not what I was yesterday. I feel like a new person. A new soul ' and wiping her eyes, looked at him.

You could have killed me last night but you did not. You could have commanded that monster that came out of the seine to tear us apart but you did not. Again, when you had the opportunity to kill all my Romany brothers, you did not and instead spared their lives and let them go.

Then, when my very own mother decided to murder me, you threw yourself between me and her and saved my life without even thinking and willingly. Why?

You bathed the Goddess with your blood and then made me bleed by covering me with your blood. I was meant for you. I was born for you and now I am bleeding for you. Literally, bleeding for you.'

Placing her palms around Dhana's face, she looked at him and said, ' I am a witch and a capable one at that. But when it comes to you, I am capable of only loving you, protecting you and if needed, willingly die defending you.'

' Thank you ' Dhana said and smiling ' Thank you for your love, Tara. You and your love are overwhelming, and any man would be better with you in his life. It's a privilege. Thank you.

' Any man but not you. Why?'

' Because, as you feared, I am married..........' Dhana said and looked at Tara whose eyes began raining tears of sorrow
