Raviyin Review Vilaiyaadal of Kumki
After the success of Myna Prabhu Solomon is coming with a another movie Kumki which is introducing Sivaji Ganesh grandson and Prabhu son Vikram Prabhu as the hero and Lakshmi Menon is the heroine, also Thambi Ramaiah, Junior Balaya act in an important role. Music by Imaan, Cinematography by Sukumar and Produced by Linguswamy.
Story
Forest Elephant Komban is destroying the village so the people in the village decide to bring in a Kumki Elephant to fight against the forest elephant Komban. Then comes Bomman (Vikram Prabhu) who is having his elephant Manikam and he pretends that his elephant Manikam is a Kumki elepahnt and Bomman gets into the village with his uncle Thambi Ramiah and his worker. Meanwhile while he stays in the village he falls in love with Alli (Lakshmi Menon) who is the daughter of the village head. Rest of the story is about how Bomman elephant Manikam fights against forest elephant Komban win the battle or not ? Will his love with Alli succeed or not ? What happen to Manikam, Bomman and Alli is the rest of the story of Kumi is about.
Performance
Vikram Prabhu : It is Vikrma Prabhu debut film but when we look at the scrren we can clearly see that Kumki is his debut film because he was pretty average just pass. As half of the time his expression was lacking sometime his acting is unatural but he did a good job. Would say that Kumki is a good start for Vikram Prabhu but he have to improve a lot but his angry looks are damn good.
Lakshmi Menon : Lakshmi Menon did a good job she speaks with her eyes and she has a similiar features like Amala Paul.
Thambi Ramaiah : He is the screen stealer of the whole film as his timing comedy whenever he gets emotions in those kind of scene he is just outstanding.
Village Head : He is damn good his acting is very realistic his expression during he shows his affection towaards alli is just touching.
Juniar Balaya : Did a commendable Job
Undial : His acting is hilarious and his timing comedy with Thambi Ramaiah is good..
Analysis - Positive/ Negative
Direction/ Screenplay/ Story : Prabhu Solomon has comes up with a unique subject a bonding between a person and Elephant that idea is interesting to watch as in some scene we also will go into the bonding as the bonding between the hero and Elephant will touch our heart. We don't see the elepahnt manikam as a animal we will see the elephant as a character this credit should goes to Prabhu Solomon. This is because he didn't volunteerly use Elephant he use the elephant mainly because his story demands it hats off to him for his story. Screenplay was pretty interesting I would say because each and every scene went fast we won't feel bore mainly in the first half because screenplay was very engaging. Also he perefectly blend commericialism into these kind of movies which is great. His direction was good perfectly blends in emotion, comedy everything and give as whole package. It is a good attempt by Prabhu Solomon overall
Editing : Was almost good but in some shots it didn't sync it well. As we may feel while watching the movie some ediiting is going on this is minus because for a editor we should not feel while watching a film editing work is going on. Some editing could have been trimmed because they have showed some object like around 30 sec to 1 min so we couldn't able to concentrate on the object and we will turn a side this is somewhat a drawback from the editing side. Also use of close up shots and the wide shots together in some shots it didn't cope out well. Overall Editor did a good job.
Cinematogrpahy : Cinematogrpahy is damn good picturization is really worth it the way Sukumar capture the village and the forest was so fresh and osum. But in some scene he have use slow motion shots in those scene we may feel distraction also camera was shaking he coul have avoid that. Overall cinematography is a visual treat in this film don't miss the experience.
Music/ Song Picturization - Imman Music is just excellent no songs was bad has every songs has it's own flavour and we can listen to every songs as many times we want. My Picks was Nee Yeppa Pulla. His rerecording was just outstanding especially rerecording between the bonding of Bomman and Manikam was a goosebumps. Picturization of every songs are excellent Kudus to the director, and cinematogrpaher for the visuals of the songs and Imman for the outstanding compositon.
Suggestion / Minus
Prabhu Solomon is a great director no doubts on it but in personal opinion I would say he have to change his style because we feel like seeing Mynaa Part 2 because both the movies was happening in forest and village thats why we are getting these kind of thoughts. Also the colour temperature is greenish for both the movies so in some scene we will feel like we have come to Myna. I would say Prabhu solomon should change his style for sure because in his next movies also he did the same king of things means audience will get bored as his style would be outdated.
Next problem is Lakshmi Menon is damn good but she looks like Amala Paul and it is same like Myna the heroine is speaking with her eyes. Prabhu Solomon is selecting heroine regarding their eyes which is good but the camera most of the time focuing on the heroine eyes then the people who saw mynaa will ask did they come to Mynaa because in Mynna most of the scene will focus on heroine eyes. In next mvoie Prabhu Solomon definetly have to avoid this or it might have been outdated.
Last problem is the last 30 minutes which is the climax it is been misplaced. First half was osum and second going good but last 30 minutes is volunteerily comes it really didn't cope up with the film. Why sad ending there is no use of sad ending over here both the elephant fighting okay why hero has no one in the end most the supporitng chareacter is dying as the director put a tragic end wantedly. Due to the climax whole film looks like it is unfinished which is the main drawback they can put a tragic ending but it should first cope up with the film. For this film different ending than this would be a great in my opinion.
Conclusion
Overall Kumki is a great attempt which we can watch it once due to it subject and hard hitting attempt and the effort of the technicians who put for Kumki. But at the same time it is not a extrodinary movies it is a good attempt dot. If they avoid those mistakes the film would be extraodinary attempt once again kodus to Prabhu Solomon for giving a good film.
Verdict : Visual Treat but lacks in the climax
