Not just eye candy
Actress Karthika Nair to return to M'wood for a film that highlights the challenges faced by a woman athlete, from Kerala, who represents the country

Achallenging role is bound to attract most heroines who want that one 'hatke' film that will not just help them attain commercial success, but also bring in creative satisfaction. The next such film is touted to be Rajesh Pillai's Gold – the female oriented film that revolves around a woman athlete who represents the country at international sport events. And the front runner to bag this lead role is 19-year-old Karthika Nair, who was last seen in Mollywood in Makaramanju in 2010.
"It's an extremely interesting and challenging role, no doubt. However, I have not yet signed up yet, only because the team has not finalised on the dates of shoot," confirms Karthika. Meanwhile, the actress will be seen in Bharatiraja's Tamil film Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum and in Telugu film Dammu, opposite Junior NTR. She says she is also thrilled about the plum role in the remake of Sattam Oru Iruttarai opposite Shivaji Ganesan's grandson Vikram Prabhu.
"The truth is, I received the most number of offers from Malayalam ever since the success of my film Ko. But I didn't want to take up the films just because I was getting them. Luckily, all the Tamil and Telugu films I have done so far have seen me play strong characters. I don't want to sign up for a film just to be the eye candy. If the character is of equal importance as that of the male lead, then I'm on," she says.
