THE PROPHECY - PART 12

Siddhant is instantly overwhelmed with a dreadful sense of guilt. She had just witnessed her father being murdered and he mercilessly dragged her away from his lifeless body. He didn't even give heed to her pleas to let her take him along. But he didn't know what else to do either. He didn't have a choice. He would have listened to her had the scenario been different. But a question nags him at the back of his head: if I were in her place, would I abandon my father's body? Would I even forgive the person who forces me to?
He stands there for a moment with no clue of what to do or say. What could possibly console her? Is it even right to ask her to calm down?
Roli on the other hand burns with the same emotions that nags Siddhant. She can't bear the thought of her father's corpse lying unwanted somewhere. And she ran away like a coward instead of fighting back!
Unaware to her, Siddhant quietly places the mugs on the coffee table and proceeds towards her.
Papa fought to protect me, she thinks with a stinging heart, if I sit around, do nothing and keep hiding somewhere like a coward then I'm not even fit to be his daughter. I'm not going to sit here and accept my fate. I'm going to go out there and get them. Every single one of them. But most of all, I must get my Papa back, with or without help.
She gets up almost abruptly and ---
SMACK!
---collides onto Siddhant who was so dangerously close.
Roli SHRIEKS in surprise, loses balance and ---
--- topples onto Siddhant!
Siddhant stumbles back momentarily as he struggles to stay on his feet, his arms involuntarily wrap around her torso and waist.
He SMACKS hard against the wall with Roli still glued to him.
Silence prevails broken only by the faint gasps of surprised breathlessness that escapes their lips.
Siddhant becomes increasingly aware of the heat resonating from her soft body into his, the gentle feel of her feathery soft stomach on his hard and rugged terrain. Her warm, perfect breasts against his ripped, groovy chest.
He gets lost in her big, beautiful sparkling eyes and tear stricken face. Could it really be? Is she my soul mate? I've managed to believe and follow each and everything in the Prophecy, but why does this fact stop me in my tracks? I just can't seem to accept it.
Roli too becomes aware of his warm body pulsing against hers. She searches his eyes curiously, wondering what he could be thinking now. Could it be, she wonders, the things he told me about the book is true?
BING-BONG!
The doorbell alarms them.
Roli quickly lets go of the fistful of Siddhant's shirt she had grabbed a while ago in a desperate attempt to stay upright.
SIDDHANT: (glances at his watch and grins sheepishly) Guess it's the pizza guy.
He proceeds to the main door, but Roli's eyes are wide in horror as the memory of a similar incident sparks up an eerie sense of impending doom.
Siddhant peeps through the lens before opening the door to the delivery boy. He takes the pizza, pays the money and prepares to shut the door but ---
"Looks like we're just in time!"
Siddhant turns around, alarmed and finds three of his friends coming towards him with a crate of beer.
Arrey yaar, he thinks frantically, why did these guys come here now? Dammit.
FRIEND #1: What are you staring at? Forgot right? (to his friends) told you na, this guy will forget.
SIDDHANT: (smiles uncomfortably) What's up with the surprise visit guys?
FRIEND #2: Surprise it is man! It's your birthday!
Oh shit, thinks Siddhant dreadfully as his friends hug him and wish him, for the first time in his life, he actually hates this special day.
He glances nervously over his shoulder at Roli. Somehow I must get these guys out of here.
FRIEND #1: (shoulders past him into the apartment) So come on, it's party time.
SIDDHANT: (tries to block their path) Whoa, wait up. Guys, actually there's a problem.
FRIEND #1: (ignores him and walks past) Screw your problem and all those lame excuses. Don't make me remind you about last year!
SIDDHANT: (desperate) Yaar. Just listen.
His friends stop in their tracks as they notice Roli in the bedroom. They exchange confused glances at first, then mischievous.
Siddhant looks at Roli and notices the terrified look in her eyes. He would love to just grab them by their throats and fling them out of his apartment, but of course, he can't do that.
FRIEND #3: Oho! So this is the problem eh?
They jeer and punch him playfully all over.
SIDDHANT: (feels awkward) Guys. Guys. Stop.
FRIEND #1: Saalah! How long has this been going on?
FRIEND #2: Bloody bugger! You've started screwing girls in your apartment too?
On any other occasion, he would just go along with the flow of their shower of teases, but this time----
He is mightily embarrassed to see the look in Roli's eyes. "Apartment too?" That makes it sound like this was his usual business. Picking up girls, taking them to his apartment and banging them to his heart's desire. That very phrase stings him as he sees the trust in her eyes melt away to nothing.
SIDDHANT: Yaar, just stop it. It's not what you think.
FRIEND #1: Today tho will be a pukka super party!
FRIEND #2: Oh God. I'm coming already!
FRIEND #1: Is she fresh? Or you already rammed it in?
FRIEND #3: Prepaid or postpaid?
This was it! Siddhant goes all red in anger and embarrassment.
Roli, on the other hand feels her heart drop to her gut. They think that I'm a wh**e... a prostitute... a call girl... I've been a fool. This whole Prophecy thingy was a lie. His intention was just to lure me into his trap, to get me laid... to have sex with me... to share me with his friends... I've been such a fool. I just fell for him. I trusted him... I trusted him---
Siddhant is horrified to see her eyes brim with shameful, angry tears. She darts into the room away from sight.
His friends continue to jeer at him.
SIDDHANT: (loses it, shakes them off) What the f**k! How dare you talk shit about her!
FRIEND #1: Oho! Kyun? Kya hua? In love with her already?
SIDDHANT: Yes! Any problem?
FRIEND #2: (mocks him) Really?
SIDDHANT: YES! NOW GET OUT OF MY APARTMENT!
His friends are stunned at his angry outburst.
FRIEND #1: (pats Siddhant on the shoulder) Arrey-arrey bhai. Just calm down. Why are you getting emotional?
Siddhant knocks off his friend's hand.
SIDDHANT: (in a low growl) Get. Out.
His friends are extremely quiet and shaken up. Without another word, they leave his apartment.
FRIEND #3: (leaves the crate of beer on his table) Keep it man.
Siddhant shuts the door. On one hand, he is relieved that they have left him to his own devices, on the other, he is upset that he had to stand up against them, treat them harshly. One thing's for sure, he has hurt his friends very badly.
His thoughts drift back to Roli again. Shit, those guys, the shit that they said. She must have thought of me as a sex maniac. Good Lord!
He begins to hurry to her room but stops midway as Roli comes out with the strong, unshakable determination to leave.
