Now those of you familiar with a few of my posts, this will be a long one, but if you have a little patience, you will definitely enjoy it. I put in my effort to fully explain my thoughts and I know that people with limited attention spans won't make the effort to read it and understand its point, no problem. To the people that have the patience to understand it, thank you! đđź
I was thinking why SGP has this undefinable quality that has made it successful and why Sushaan have been such a success on award shows, dance performances, guest spots on other serials etc. On the surface, the premise for this series SGP, wasn't anything innovative but why did this formula of a spoiled girl marrying a simple guy work out... Chemistry!â¤ď¸
Chemistry isn't as simple as putting two great actors/actresses together or two super hot people together. In Hollywood and Bollywood, there have been numerous examples of movies where the acting ability was great or they are attractive but it didn't translate on screen. Why?
Because chemistry is this elusive quality where you can't predict it, you can't measure it, you can't figure it out and you can't force it; some people have certain chemistry and its just a mystery of life. Truly successful chemistry between actors makes you forget that you're watching a tv show/movie etc, you whole heartedly believe that this couple could exist in real life and it sticks in your head.
Let me explain from my example. My first experience with SGP was the button sowing episode between Sushaan (remember, she takes all his buttons so she can get close to him). Next day I wondered, hey, why is that stuck in my head? I stayed up again (in Vancouver, Canada terms, I have to stay awake to 1:00am to watch the epsiode and be awake by 7:00am for work lol!) What the heck is going on, why is it stuck it in my head. CHEMISTRY
Long story short, I watched all the episodes in 3 months and became a loyal fan. Now why am I talking about chemistry? I though to myself, hey, if SGP is such a great show, why don't I watch some of these other top shows that everyone says are so great! I am not a blind follower of SGP where I can't appreciate the good points of other shows, I am very open to serials that are good.
Apparently I got spoiled on SGP since I thought what Sushaan had was an example of hindi serials, and wow, not even close, its so rare. I lucked out with SGP because what Sushaan have, you could never plan for or try to recreate no matter how hard you try. The connection between Ragz and Jay is something that can't be explained, it was there from the start. The subtle gestures between them that are unscripted add to their chemistry. đ
IE. When Suhana puts her arms around his arms as they talk, when Ishaan cups her face (with his hands) as they talk emotionally, the way she leans her head against his chest whenever she feels vulnerable, whenever he puts his head in her lap and she strokes his hair and especially notice, when Ishaan/Suhana are talking, watch the other person instead and you will see them reacting in such a way that makes the scene very authentic and all of this, the director isn't telling them, they are doing it spontaneously!
There are so many little things that Sushaan do that separates them from other couples, it would take too long to explain but even examples of when Ishaan helps her getting ready, the look Suhana gives him when she's tying his tie, all these lil scenes are instances of chemistry where you don't have to say anything but the EXPRESSIVE EYES of SUSHAAN are really top notch!!
The best example I have is this: in every series, there are scenes of one person of the main couple is naraaz with the other for whatever reason. The formula is , both sides talk, one is sweet, one pretends to be upset but likes the attention and at the end it all works out. This scene can be handled in so many different ways and I saw numerous examples of this scene in all these so called top serials and no offense, most of them were painful to watch! I couldn't believe the awkwardness, the lack of emotion or connection between the lead characters.
There are great serials out there on all the various networks, each one is attracting a different type of audience but no matter what channel, no matter what the focus, if you're talking about what is the best chemistry in hindi serials, SASURAL GENDA PHOOL IS NUMBER ONE!!
