Suhana's Corner: Significant changes in the offing

Hi everyone, this week brought two significant changes in my life. Strict Kaushalya Dadi ensured everyone including me toed the line, while Ishaan's promotion made me anxious.

Dadiji's sister, Kaushalya Dadi's entry caused a flutter. I got a lowdown on her numerous rules and expectations from her bahus. She is very strict, expects me to wear ghoongat ALWAYS, speak softly, cook food and do seva. But it was an anti-climax as I was shocked to see her – she is dadi's twin!! She thoroughly irritated everyone and especially me with her shudh Hindi and orders. As I am the youngest bahu, she insisted on calling me Ishaan's lugai- OMG! She even expected me to fetch her tea at an unearthly hour of 5 AM for which I had to sleep in a sari!

It was shocking to know that Kaushalya Dadi would give dowry for her grand-daughter, Saroj's, wedding. I bonded with the shy Saroj and was glad to impart wisdom about importance of marriage and a family. I realised that even I didn't understand the meaning of marriage till I came into this family. We all live for each other and are there for one another at all times.

Meanwhile, Ishaan surprised us all with news of his promotion which came with a transfer to Mumbai. Everyone had apprehensions; I was upset and simply refused to go. I don't want to leave my loving family and go to a new place. Thankfully, papa cancelled Ishaan's Mumbai plan. But Ishaan explained it was important for his career. He even assured me that we would keep a maid to manage household chores. Badi Ma convinced everyone that it would be best to let us go to Mumbai. I am very worried about managing things there and more so about staying away from the family.
