Brother, dear brother SANGEETA BAROOAH PISHAROTY

A FAMILY AFFAIR: Actor Rohit Roy. PERHAPS THIS is the first time in the history of Indian TV serials that two brothers are being featured as brothers in a soap too. Actors Ronit Roy and Rohit Roy are acting their real-life roles as brothers to each other on reel - in Zee TV's latest dish-out
Sarrkkar - Rishton Ki Ankahi Kahani. Being aired since last week, this Monday to Thursday high-voltage family drama is set against a political backdrop, with writer Shobhaa De pumping in her ideas by scripting it. Says Rohit, "I am really excited about it, particularly because I am working with Ronit. He is such a fantastic actor, and that's another reason for me to be seen on this serial." That someone from the family is always present at the sets, Rohit feels, is quite cognisant in him all the time, "But all cobwebs are wiped out once the camera starts rolling." In
Sarrkkar... Rohit is playing the role of Karan, younger brother of Kunal. "Karan is the youngest son of Priamvada (played by Divya Seth), who replaces her husband, a chief minister, after his assassination. Gradually, she wants her sons to follow her steps to politics. While Kunal, an IT pro, is totally against it, Karanl won't mind getting into it because he is in a rush to revamp his country. He clearly believes that the end justifies the means," describes Rohit.
Gandhi family Penned by a naughty novelist like Shobhaa De, what comes to one's mind suddenly is the resemblance of the story with the Congress party's first family. But Rohit rises to the occasion to guard the lady, "I don't think there is any similarity between this yarn and that of the Gandhi family. There are a lot of dissimilarities. Shobhaa is so excited about the story, she told me it has been on her mind for years." It could be a coincidence but Rohit featured in yet another serial written by De,
Swabhimaan on Doordarshan. And that contributed a lot to make him a tube watcher's familiar face.
Talking more about his brother Ronit, Rohit says, "He has matured so much as an actor because he had gone through a lot of hardships in life, one of them being the break up of his first marriage."
