There were some things which I think the director overlooked.

Firstly, Hindu women do not go inside the shamshan bhoomi (cremation ground). Fine, Kritka came there to stop Bhagwat & PM accompanied her. But what abt the other females who were already present there? Bhagwat's sister & some others. Women are not even allowed to step inside, forget abt witnessing the last rites.

Also, Kritika was refering to the rites as 'aag dena' which is also wrong. Its called mukhaagni, which means that the fire is given to teh mouth o fthe deceased. But it sounds very odd to call it aag.

The director should look into these small things.

I am really not aware whether its against Hindu religion or not but when my mom-in-law passed away we )the women in the family) did go to the shamshan ghat and witnessed the last rites. Nobody said that its not done. Also a friend of mine did the mukhaagni when her dad passed away because they had no brother. So I think the director was not all that wrong. But I do agree that "mukhaagni" sounds better that saying "aag dena" though as I live in the US we are yet to see this episode and so I donno exactly how she said this.

Sarrkkar update for 26 Oct-
The servant from Bhagwat's house comes and tells Krittika and PM that Rishabh did not commit suicide,but he was murdered.All of them are shocked.The servant reminds them that Rishabh had just undergone a paralytic and was having difficulty in even handling things and tells them that it is out of question that he would reach the fan and commit suicide.PM agrees and thinks how come this thought never occured to her.Krittika is furious and she tells PM that she was always sure that Rishabh could never commit suicide and tells PM to come with her to the police.PM tells her that it is no use going to the police and that they need more proof against Bhagwat.She tells Krittika not to lose hope and tells her that God accounts for everybody's crimes and Rishabh's murderers will not go un-noticed.
Bhagwat is talking to his lawyer on phone and telling him that he wants such a case against Krittika so that she will have to come and stay with him.Bhagwat promises him all the needed money but tells him that he wants the job done.Raghu asks him whether he really wants a successor so bad? Bhagwat tells him that he gives a damn to his family being carried forward and if he would have cared the least,he would not have killed Rishabh.He reminds Raghu that Krittika is from the Singh family and that the public votes for the family and that is why he wants Krittika on his side,to make his journey to the CM's seat easier.Raghu is impressed.
Karan,Shweta and Bua are sitting together-
Bua- I cannot bear to see Urvi so sad Karan..she has been left all alone after Kunal's death.Even the kids are not with her otherwise she would have cheered up.I have a friend at Mussorie where the kids are studying and she has agreed to appoint Urvi as a teacher in the same school as the kids'.The change in environment will make her life worthwhile Karan
Karan-That's a damn good idea Bua..I have an urgent meeting right now so I will have to leave.In the meanwhile,you please ask that friend of yours once again.
Karan leaves for the meeting and Bua tells Shweta that every thorn of the way can be remobed if one uses his brain, referring to Urvi.Shweta gives an evil smirk.
Bhagwat is sitting in front of Rishabh's photo and many people are moruning his death.Bhagwat loudly greives for his death and tells everyone that Rishabh has left him alone.Krittika arrives and tells him angrily that he has nothing to do with Rishabh and warns him that he will not leave him for killing Rishabh.Krittika takes Rishabh's photo and leaves.
PM is pacing up and down in her room when Krittika comes home.PM tells her that she was very worried for her and asks her where she'd gone.Krittika tells her that she has just been to the demon who killed his own son and was faking his grief.PM assures her that she will not let Bhagwat escape like this.
Bua is talking to Urvi-
Bua- Urvi,I personally very much recommend that you go to Mussorie and stay with the kids..that joy will be unsurpassable.
Urvi- You are right Buaji..nowadays I feel suffocated in this atmosphere..but there is one thing which keeps me from leaving the capital
Bua- And what is that?
Urvi- It is a very big and important thing Buaji.If Mom would have been here,I'd left long ago..but in her absence ,I am the head of the family and I will have to assume my responsibilities..
Shweta is listening to all their talk and cuts in rudely-
Shweta- I think all you care about is others' responsibilites...while you have conveniently forgotten your own.You are getting all the luxuries in the world for free.You dont even have to work for it.And why will you?! Karan is there na! To tame you..and spoil..just one day Bhabhi,you earn this money on your own and show it to me...
Urvi is very offended by her talk and excuses herself.Bua tells Shweta not to lose her temper and to ease things out.
Urvi goes to her friend Reena and tells her that she wants to work,not for her sake,but for her kids.Reena tells her that she will try to get her a job in her company.
Bhagwat calls up PM. PM asks him as to why he has called.Bhagwat tells her all about Krittika and tells her that he will not tolerate this type of behvaviour.PM informs him that she knows everything about what Krittika did and she also knows that Rishabh has been murdered-
Bhagwat- Huh! What will you know? I shall tell you everything,It was ME who murdered Rishabh..I did it!! I hanged him by the fan...I did so!! I could not see my son is such distress and I freed him of all his pain..Even after I have told you so,you will not be able to harm me..
Bhagwat hangs up in anger and PM is shell-shocked to know the truth and tells it to Krittika who is equally shocked.
The next morning,PM is very happy and is praying to God.She tells Kammo that the day is Tuesday,the day of Lord Ganesha and someone who has seemless power and her immense faith.Kammo tells her that it is not only tuesday,but also Kunal's birthday.PM is shocked and tells Kammo that she never forgot this day before.She tells Kammo that they shall celebrate Kunal's birthday today.PM prays to God asking for Kunal's return..she prays that she die on Kunal's shoulder.Kammo agrees.
Karan is in meeting with the CBI officials incharge of investigating Kunal's death.They disclose some news to Karan which saddens him to no extent.While leaving,one of the officers hands over a packet to Karan.Karan is shocked to find it's belongings and cries.
PM looks at Kunal's photograph and talks to it saying that she has prepared all his favorite dishes and wishes he'd come to her soon.Kammo brings in a cake with Kunal's loved flavour.PM calls Krittika and tells her that they shall all cut the cake together for Kunal's sake.Just then,Karan comes in with the packet.PM is very happy to see him and tells him that he has arrived on good time and that she's dead sure that Kunal will return today.Karan tells her that Kunal will never come back now..and that he is dead!
PM and Krittika are thoroughly shaken.Karan opens the packet in front of them both.He takes out Kunal's suit which he'd worn on that day, his watch and his pen.PM is very sad on having all these things in her hand and cries bitterly.Krittika also is very sad.Karan hugs them both and all three of them cry in utter pain for Kunal's loss.

Sarrkkar – update for 27^th October

Bhagwat is sitting alone & playing & playing chusar (I dunno what its called in English) when Raghunandan tells him that Kunal's things have been found at the site of the accident. He asks Bhagwat if the crash was really an accident or a planned murder. But Bhagwat also doesn't know.

Priyam is sitting with Karan & crying.

Priyam, "You know Karan, Kunal always used to tell me that I loved you more than him. Everyone, even Vir used to say that I loved you the most. But that's not true. I loved Kunal more than anyone else in the world."

Karan, I always knew that Ma. I knew that you loved bhaiya more than me. But I don't have a problem with that. Ma, now I have to find out about Kunal bhaiya's murderers."

Priyam, "Murder?"

Karan, "Yes ma. Bhaiya's helicopter didn't crash because of any technical fault. There was a bomb inside it."

Priyam, "Karan, promise me that you will see to it that the people who did this are punished & are hanged."

Karan, "Ma I promise. I will not rest till I see these people hanged."

Priyam gives all of Kunal's things to Urvi. Urvi starts crying bitterly.

Shweta comes there & says, "Mummyji, if you had not sent Kunal bhaiya to Jagdishpur, he would have been with us today." Priyam & Urvi both are shocked at this accusation but they don't reply.

Kritika is sitting in her room. Kammo comes in with dinner for her, but she is not hungry. Kammo tries to explain to her that now that she is pregnant, she has to take care of the child within her. Kritika feels that the family is going through immense bad luck, nothing's going right. She wonders if it is right to give birth to a child in such an atmosphere. But Kammo says that a child will bring happiness to everyone. Priyam hears this & agrees. She also explains to Kritika the importance of being healthy.

Kammo goes to Karan & tells him that Kritika is very depressed & this is not good for her health.

The kidnappers take the soldier's wife to some other place because the police have come to know about this one. There she meets another soldier who has also been kidnapped. He tells her that her husband was his friend & is now dead.

Karan sends away Kritika somewhere. He promises to look after Priyam in her absence.

Priyam is sitting & looking at Kunal's photo when Urvi comes there to get permission for his last rites. Priyam performs the rites. Then baba tells them to put Kunal's things into the river (I don't know how to express this but its called arpan karna in Hindi). After all things are washed away, Karan hands over Kunal's diary to Priyam. She opens its & reads. She reads something that shocks her.

Thanks Manasi... a good episode... in a sense that new story lines are opening up on a couple of fronts.

(By the way, as a side note, you were right about mukhagni and women participation in the antim sanskar. It's just that do's-don'ts and taboos have changed. But you were right about the rules as they are in the book.)
