Star Vijay, the Tamil language entertainment channel from the Star TV network, has positioned itself as being known for its innovative formats, chat shows and reality shows, events, progressive fiction shows and most recently, blockbuster movies.
The months of June will see the channel's fiction show Saravanan Meenakshi's characters getting married. In keeping with its innovative bent, Star Vijay decided to conduct the wedding of its screen characters Meenakshi and Saravanan at an event in which all of Tamil Nadu could participate. As part of the celebrations for this wedding, a reception event was organised in Tirunelveli on May 13 and in Coimbatore on May 19.
Various promotional activities were undertaken to promote this first-of-its-kind event by a television channel in the south. For the on-ground aspect, a canter activity was organised which went through 32 districts collecting wishes from the audience. In addition, print ads were placed in a local newspaper, cut outs and posters were put up in Tirunelveli and Coimbatore, and promos were played on the channel to make the public aware of the event.
Commenting on the initiative, Dev Shenoy, Senior VP Sales, Star Vijay, said: "The event was conceptualized and executed by the in-house activation team. The fiction show is very popular and so, it was a great way to connect with the audience directly by doing a huge on-ground event." Attended by other popular stars from the channel's signature shows, this event gave the viewers the chance to meet and greet all of them. The reception events were attended by an audience of 8,000 people in each city, and will be telecast on Star Vijay on June 17 and 24.
