Yes, we are nearing the climax of our journey with SC. After a long time we are also getting offscreen segments and interviews. I only caught GR interview due to time constraints. And what a real gentleman of complete integrity! I'll definitely miss watching him on screen as the one and only saraswathichandra.
It is a very difficult task to choose favourite scenes from the old version of SC since most of them are special and still treasured. Almost all samud scenes till karwachowth. In fact that entire phase boasted offbeat love story, creative vision, wonderful craft, subtlety, and sophistication.
Mainly scenes involving yatinji&jen, gumaan&dugba, kumari&danny, saras&sunny and kumud&sunny and LN-saras poignant reconciliation scenes. Early days of RN had a touch of flavour and ehsaas associated with it.
If we recall some vivid memories of samud;
When saras saw kumud's face for the first time (what a magic and visual appeal the scene oozed)
Scintillating atta romance
The whole of pot making sequence
The gratifying samud moment before ila bhen's house and the one during that stormy night
The entire sejal wedding sequence (however the genda-pool that followed was imo a debacle of the skilled SLB team. Neither aesthetically pleasing or sensuous nor passionate)
All samud moments near the pool were heavenly
The initial phase was light and breezy with enough drama it geared up for a fast paced story post kumud marriage. The Pramad phase was equally engaging and impactful under a different and a credible setting. All characters were compelling and well-etched. Spl mention to Pramad who brilliantly played such a repulsive, monstrous character with conviction. Most of the scenes in the 1st half of Pramad phase struck a right emotional chord with the audience. The phase explored another facet of saras and kumud and their performances were remarkable. Spl mention to all saras-alak scenes (what a feminist and perfectly grey shaded character she was). The later part of this phase was gradually diluted and I didn't like pramad's 'resurrection' in kumud's house. To me the most striking scene of Pramad phase was the glorious inferno scene where Pramad was attempting to set kumud on fire. The way it was conceived and enacted was outstanding. The apt buildup, use of the fire motif, the symbolism attached to it, GR and JW ' S breathtaking act etc. The fire burned away her illusions of Pramad and purified and strengthened samud love. (Alas, pretty soon she went back to square one).
In the Kusum track the samud scene where saras firmly told kumud that no one can separate them, be it Pramad or Kusum while they were lost in each other. The lovely romantic moment they shared in dadaji's house and the entire fun-filled sequence before their wedding are noteworthy.
After the marriage the couple were deprived of their charm and sizzling chemistry and some of poignant samud moments post wedding phase :
The shot yet cute scene of kumud sitting in front of dressing table , saras looking adoringly at her puts sindhoor and they had a private moment.
The sweet, touching samud scene where kumud shared her insecurities and saras lovingly reassured her just before Mumbai trip (front/back hugs, air/hair kisses etc).
Mumbai darshan was refreshing and painted them in the best light.
The balcony scene under the stars was dreamy and dialogues were poignant.
The recent samudicious episode just before the 'crane' mishap.
Saras scenes : There are innumerable key scenes of saras and impossible to list them.
Saras as a passionate lover in all the mesmerising romantic scenes of the good old days.
Personal trauma of saras (talab scene where he was tricked by kumud, the scene after that 'kerchief' game, explosive dubai saras - LN scene)
The emotionally charged scenes when confronted with Pramad and kumud and especially walking on the fire scene.
A broken saras in saras-danny scene.
The recent saras-SM encounter.
Kumud scenes :
Early days of kumud when she was a cheerful, sharp and a vibrant personality.
Video conferencing scene
When she defended VC opposing LN and saras
When for the first time she wore a saree gifted by saras (the beautiful visages)
My most favourite scene of Jen till date is the high voltage emotional scene when saras called off the marriage. She was beyond brilliance.
The scenes in the initial stage in pramad's house where she challenged Pramad and kalika and confronted saras
The recent pregnancy track in which kumud of old is restored to a substantial degree.
Over the course of time kumud was constantly deprived of her distinctive personality traits and ultimately transformed into the actress herself at the hands of current cvs. Too much of loosening up of saras and the writers going easy on his attributes butchered his original characterization. Since their relationship too was mishandled in a cliched manner many of their scenes turned monotonous and amateur in the recent past.
