Arshi, I am guessing the only reason they'd kill Saras off and bring back GR as another character is a total drought of story ideas?? They can only do Love Story, Wedding, KillGuy, Repeat??!

Just as in the Kartar Singh episode and Chandri episodes they showed Saras in a very un-Saras mode, they may want to give a totally opposite kind of character to Saras. Which of course is well within GR's abilities... Perhaps this is the only way they can increase longevity of this show??!! New show at same time may be a sop to GR? (He seems to be the consummate workaholic??!!)

Any which way, very dire news indeed...🤢

Happy ji,
whatever be the reasons n compulsions for this, the show is synonymous with Saras (and its not just about GR.)

I think so too happy, it's the limitation of writing that seems to be behind this track. And the fact that gauti must be itching to do something more.

Anyway, I don't know if such misshapen ideas work. Anyway, I am glad that a lot of new shows are starting with finite episodes that have been pre-scripted and are extremely well made. I don't think after sc I would want to commit to a show that by design must descend into crap after a few months.

If the rumors are true then here's how it ties up...

- all said and done, the TRPs are not too great and SP will want to pull out this show and get a new one started asap...from SPs perspective a low TRP show is just wasting 30 minutes of media real estate and returns.

- transfer to a new PH from SLB was anyway a holding operation...it has been given quite a long rope and SP feels that now its time to end it.

- the show is a hit in UK and elsewhere, but it is the Indian audience which generates the advert related cash for SP through TRPs and pays salaries...so SP is saying to the overseas audience thanks but no thanks.

- GR & JW have a great, loyal and vocal fan-base. Neither the actors nor the show would want to break apart this only enduring aspect of this show. I also believe both may be into an exclusive contract.

- From SP perspective therefore even if the show is pulled, GR is part of the overall actor bench and 'investment'...It may not want to lose him to another channel...So GR is given a sort of a golden parachute by giving him an alternate show on another channel of SP where once again he may be the lead...Notice all the original SC bankable names are on board for this new show...Babbal, Utkarsh, GR..

- SP may not be having the same consideration for JW considering the past history & controversies around SC...so it is simply waiting for her contract to run its course...Perfect example of what hubris can do to you and a reminder that the hierarchies of power are ubiquitous all around each of us and they will destroy us in the end if we are not very careful. (e.g. recent Star Parivaar Awards hulabaloo...SP delivered a very visible message where it stands on this.)

- Which brings us to SC...looks like GR is definitely moving out of the show...the clarification reports coming out after the first announcement on this mention his character is ending but he is part of the show...which is splitting hairs...he will be on the show but on the bench like Kumari's character (shes not dead yet shes not around) or LN & Gumaan (to be brought in when required).

- SC fans are vocal and loyal but not that loyal (like the original IPK fans which forced SP to terminate the show rather than bring a new lead. This IPK phenomenon is a case study on the power of online media and fans). I do not see SC fans ready to go to war with SP if GR is replaced by another face.

I missed seeing IPK, but I believe there is less frenzy around changes around SC because:
(i) somewhere the leads' chemistry though packed with potential for a burning flame was never allowed to ignite beyond a few mandatory sparks here and there... Oh hubris!
(ii) there was a change of PH...and deviation from adherence to the source ...which caused story flip flops...increasing overall character inconsistency...leading to us fans later really not identifying with the leads...all of us reached a stage when we would be happy with a few seconds or at most minutes of Samud moments (and that too sub-standard if you compare the SLB days).

- So SP will do its final experiment...if it has been given time till Sept...it will close this Prashant track...unite the lovers...then kill of SC character probably through Gumaan...thereby once again realigning in a very amateurish manner with the source...Kumud back to living her life as a widow with no SC and LN forsaking Gumaan...

- In this final experiment if TRPs go up, they might get another few months extension...in which case they will screw it up more...public memory being short another SC will be resurrected...

If the rumors are false then this is just another desperate attempt to generate interest and consequent TRPs...though I fail to see how this will help in the long run.

In any case, the soul of SC died a long long time ago...what we have now are the twitchings of the husk left behind..

...I look forward to a new show with GR...that guy is a real talent and a class act and needs more opportunities to entertain us with his mettle and acting range.

Very well said Hgg ji. You said it all.
Many of us still watching this patchwork do so for Saras the character. Otherwise there is no SC.

Thanks Hgg, I was wanting to read an analysis from you, from the moment this news came out!

I absolutely agree with your points above, infact when SC started, with SLB as the captain of the ship, I expected it to surpass IPK, and Saras and Kumud to be on par with Arnav and Khushi, in being the epitome of romance.

But that didn't really happen and the fact that Saras's death has just caused most of us to feel let down Yet resigned to it, because our expectations from this PH are really low, in terms of their ability to tell a good story.

The change of PH, the fact that the story was dumped unceremoniously in favour of TRP masala were factors that disillusioned most of us.

Add to that the fact that Saras and Kumud chemistry has never been exploited by creatives, and there was always a cloud on the level of intimacy that the co-stars were comfortable in displaying, the frequent absence of lead, were also factors that took away from the chemistry

The biggest reason was of course the fact that Kumud was never understood by our writers and was very very poorly written, often leading us to doubt if she even loved Saras at all!

Kumud's strength, her courage, her respect for societal norms and conventions that led her to sacrifice everything in order to do what she felt was right was never projected.

What came across was a stubborn, rude and arrogant Kumud, who was often foolhardy, took Saras for granted, cried for him when her own foolishness got her into problems she could not solve on her own, and once rescued promptly went back to treating him badly!

Saras on the other hand, is the character who has been kept steadfast, loyal, loving and completely committed to this relationship that many times seems one sided

I have often felt that Saras till date has not forgiven himself for that fateful night and so tries doubly hard to prove his love and devotion and Kumud shows very little love for him.

These are the factors due to which fans will not fight for Saras Kumud, because bit by bit Saras and Kumud have been already killed off by our esteemed creatives, unlike Arnav and Khushi, because even though that show too lapsed into stupid inane treatment, the one single USP that remained till the end was Arnav for Khushi and Khushi for Arnav, and their chemistry to exploited by the makers to the hilt.

Many of us are already frustrated with the story, and the treatment, and now Saras's death if it happens will be the break we all are looking for. Kumud can then start her new life with someone else and so can we!

Agree fully ...

In SLB days, you had a Kumud who fought against everyone simply because she believed in Saras without any proof (Gau Hatya) and now you have a Kumud today who goes Prashantji right until the time she gets punched in the stomach by the truth...

Also, how much of the final enactment by an actor is his / her own interpretation of the character written by the writer?

Consider the rude and arrogant perception you mention...Can you as an actor nuance it just right to depict it as a mix of the remnants of your past character...

..who was the most independent, confident, knowledgable (while in RN) person who has historically always been right...and now facing an uncertain environment (big city, lack of family for support or advise, a sense of being lost because you are a stranger / migrant, small village person V/s city slicker snobish put down feeling) translating into being scared all the time...but not able to express it because "Hey you are THE Kumud"...and therefore grasping at the tiniest glimmer of comfort (the friendly 'respectable' neighbour)...

...to which you add the slight resentment towards your hubby who does not get your fears...he is supposed to sense it right, "why should I say it?" 😉 and has left you to fend this entire uncertain environment by yourself while he goes away to work and is apparently having the time of his life on the new work / project etc...

What I am saying is we will never know if the Writers wrote it like that but the actor failed to nuance it...all it needed from the actor was a depiction of few shades of personal vulnerability / helplessness mixed with the brave face ...and then the entire track would have felt logical...

That's being in character...coz I have never seen GR miss these nuances..even when you can see he is bored with the track...

Finally, it all boils down to the director too...he / she should have given cues to the actor if the acting is off...

IMO its the writers. Kumud has acted like this many times before. They handled Kumud poorly. Otherwise, its not hard for an actor of Jen's caliber to show what u said.

In case of Saras, they have dealt with him very well post the rescue from fire. They made him the driver of the relationship, the dependable guy(for us viewers too) except a couple of silly episodes.

Hgg, I always felt that the lonely wife, busy husband, handsome helpful neighbour track had immense potential if handled with maturity.

But the track sadly felt victim to the same copycat writing that marks all the shows.

this prashant track is as dumb and asinine as all the others
