No nothing wrong in being a dancer, infact good dancers are respected a lot.

Very loosely put, it would be the difference between dancing on a stage and dancing in bars, clubs etc.

So, probably Guman danced in places of ill repute, which probably did mean a lot in the small town of ratnanagri where respectability would be a big deal!

So Nachaniya is a way of referring to a woman dancer who was not altogether respectable, and danced to titilate men for money! Something like the bar dancers or strip club dancers of today.

😆No, she was not! Atleast I don't think so

But in a small village, just dancing for money in certain kinds of places brought disrespect.

Well some of them would become mistresses of rich men but there was no direct connection, just that the respectable society often closed it's doors to them.

In south dance is offered as one of the services to God. Held in very high esteem. But Guman being a professional dancer of kind arshi described, its considered a taboo.

Anyway she doesnt even know how to tie them. Upar se neeche tak make up tho karti hai.
