What is it with "Saraswatichandra" and its payalein and kamarbandhs always ending up reoccurring like old characters within this show? 😲

We all know that Saras was attached to Saraswati's payalein--after all, he did carry them all the way back to Ratnanagiri.
And we also know that Kumud's kamarbandh was the first thing that drew him in. But what do they both represent? They both carry the ehsaas of two different women in his life, both of which he holds dear to him. They mean so much more than simply chiming bells and added beauty to the show: they semi-symbolize who Saras is as a character. Ehsaas means so much to him, and the way they symbolize the most important ehsaas-es of his life show just how important they are to the rest of the storyline...

But that payal--which now adorns Kumuds feet, and that kamarbandh--which is in Kusum's possession surely must be playing a key role in the future.

In fact, I'm starting to look at them as game pieces: the way these two chiming possessions ever-change ownership is amusing. Because on one hand, we can take their constant shifting of ownership in a negative light, and assume that the novel's ending will be the show's fate. Or, we can look at them as unpredictable clues to the future... A new light on the inner dimensions of the character of Saras: directly how he feels, and what he thinks.

It'll be interesting to see what else these payalein and this kamarbandh have in store for Saras... ultimately, they are alongside him wherever he goes, and I think they might have a larger meaning to them as the plot progresses (hopefully, it progresses to please more than the average TRP Aunty) 😆

Feel free to add your musings 😳 😃

Bravo, Veera. That bold bit is simply superlative 👏 They really are game-pieces, and the way that anyone can now use them, in the case of Kamarbandh especially, is very portentous.

I did make some observations regarding payal... Posting it here, if I may 😳:

The best part however was the payal. A very vague marker but. It needs to be re-visited again for to make sense. Few thoughts: with what "haq" was Kumud wearing that payal, technically a 'shagun' from Saraswati? Why was the significance & provenance of the payal reinforced with a flashback & with Saras' utterly heartwrenching utterance, "Maa", too boot. Thereby "exposing" it as Saraswati's? Why now, when both Saras & Kumud are resolved to 'separate'? It would mean that at the point (interaction with goons) she was bereft of all markers (mangalsutra etc and all wealthy trappings associated with the BD family) except the one delineating her as Saras'. Another curious parallel has also been brought to light with the re-intro of payal. A payal secure & resplendent around her leg. While a mangalsutra sullied, torn, broken that refuses to stay at its rightful place. Also read the payal as a "shackle"... In a positive sense. It will bind her feet & refuse to let Kumud literally "move on". Despite both her & Saras' resolve. It is a bind that made its way into Kumud's hand by fate. By the same fate that dealt her such a cruel hand. She opted to wear it out of her own choice. And removing it will not be that easy. Paradoxically, her marriage binds her no longer. Those 'shackles' have been loosened, erased and taken off, time and over. Rather, the 'bind' which now holds Kumud is the implicit, the "ehsaas" in her heart & the truth in her soul does. The payal which she wore out of her own volition. A 'shackle' she embraced. Today was a fleeting and impactful acknowledgement of that.

And this bit, regarding kamarbandh's significance as a 'game-piece':

Second, Kalika already hinted to P at Navin ji, and Kumud being 'intimate'... The way she added that they were left alone to come home and after that 'kamarbandh' came into Navin's possession, she deliberately skewed facts to incite, because Kalika had once before, found kamarbandh in Navin's possession as well. She does not know, per se, whether it is Kumud's like she outright alleged, but she is taking some risky bets here, just to see reactions. And she is scoring, I would say. Bringing that kamarbandh in, just because Kumud upped her by making P come to the party... She goes and finds something she already knew was in Navin's room. At this point she is not certain of its provenance. So she takes a shot in the dark. And Kusum, claims the article as hers. Hence, Kalika hits bulls-eye. There is no way it can be Kusum's because then Navin should not have had it from before. So, now by Kusum's admission and Kumud's silent acquisience, Kalika knows kamarbandh is Kumud's. Crucially, kamarbandh is the first concrete evidence to link Saras and Kumud, right from the very beginning of Kumud's marriage. I present Exhibit A. This is huge, I would venture.

She finds it when she cleans Saras' room in the 2 August epi. Saras snatches it away from her hands, being the precious thing it was. His expression was totally 'caught out'. And now, Kalika knows that precious thing belongs to Kumud and Kumud only. She also knows that the three (Kumud-Saras-Kusum) are co-conspirators. No wonder Kalika's akad to Kumud. She is on much steady ground, while the rock strata has already starting dislodging from under Kumud's feet. But as long as Kumud feels she is making head-way with P, she is gonna be in a bubble with blinkers on. The day she finally 'removes' and 'gets out' it will be too late.

Ivy ji, you're flattering me! I'm very sure this connection was made by many before me 😊
But, thank you! 🤗

All chichoriness aside, I must say that your explanations of these two being game pieces at current times completely adds icing, cherries, sprinkles and chocolates to my bare-cupcake wala post. Indeed, right now, the payal on Kumud's feet symbolize not only Saraswati's shagun, but also the fact that she's never going to be Pramad's... no matter how much she tries. 😕

One thing I'd also like to add to your magnificent analysis of the Payalein as game pieces (the purpled lines were absolutely beautiful... I never really considered the payalein as positive "shackles" before... amazing! 👏) is that the payalein perhaps serve a purpose of grounding her too... Not only do they shackle her, per say, but they also keep her from keeping her too-big ego too-big, and they sustain her from completely crumbling as well. They keep both her feet planted to the ground firmly.. serving a purpose of a perfect balance between the old Kumud and the new Kumud... "post-heartbreak." Interesting, what we're witnessing here, isn't it? 😆

Your kamarbandh observations are completely apt. The kamarbandh, unlike the Payalein, has completely exposed the Saras-Kumud relationship to Kalika... An integral game piece which holds the possibility of having the meeting at the Sundargiri Mountains, away from the Dharamdakaari household... because after all, in the novel, Kumud and Saras do both end up away from the house. Perhaps, this game piece serves a purpose of now exposing the once-upon-a-time romance of Saras and Kumud... but for now, it's been stealthily sitting there, as Kalika's pawn (I always knew there was a reason why she tried it on... it's now in her possession... meaning the kamarbandh was the method which allowed her to gain control over "Bahuraani Sahiba") It's very amusing to watch it go around from here to there... First, being with Kumud... symbolizing herself and her "Suraj jaisi tez-taraar" personality, then being handed over conveniently to Saras, who by then had considered this Kumud his everything, and finally, Kalika, who now, while having the kamarbandh in her possession, also has the ability to control Kumud like a possession, too.

So, I guess these two game pieces really do more than serve a purpose of showing us the inner dimensions of Saras' character... they also determine more than just his fate after all.

Wow... we're doing some pretty deep thinking here... I like it 😃

Our own version of reverse-psychology, Vee ji. You make me write one line, I make you write essays 😉

Bold One: That is absolutely true. The payal represents Saraswati, and Kumud is 'binded' three ways by Saraswati. First, she shares her fate (adulterous husband). Second, she wears the payal, full of ehsaas, a legacy of Saraswati herself. And third, Saras' kasam, which he took on Saraswati Maa's name to make Kumud's marriage succeed. Ego-wise, it reminds her that she is second woman in her husband's life too. And grounding-wise, gives her the determination to not ever embrace Saraswati's fate. Moreover, the payal is her acceptance of Saras in her life. In a level far superior than the pyhsical.

Bold Two: *standing-frickin-ovation* to you for this bit 👏 But does Kumud realise that?

Forget the Kali-Prammy mind games... we're having our own going on here 🤣
That's great though I think... I need to get back to my thesis writing routine anyway, and you could use a break from your own! 😊 Ah, the opposite signs of Sagittarius and Gemini do justice after all 😳

Bold Bold 1 --- in your own words, "standing-frickin-ovation" to you, Ivy ji! Absolutely true, how Kumud is connected to Saraswati with more than just Saras himself. 👏 Very well observed. I just would like to add what Smrth Bhai once said to me... That during the Sundargiri Mountain "metaphysical" marriage Kumud and Saras have (after spending a few days and nights within the caves of the mountains alone,) Saraswati's spirit is present (as one of three) to bless the two, as their "higher-selves" unite in marriage. So, perhaps her connection has a fourth bind... When the show follows the Sundargiri Mountain meeting (I hope and pray it does because that's pretty much the biggest thing I'm looking forward to!) Kumud will be finally "metaphysically" bound by Saraswati to Saras as well... through a direct spiritual connection. Perhaps these payalein, which serve a multi purposes, also serve a function of foreshadowing her semi-meeting with the woman, Saraswati, herself too 😊

Bold Bold 2 --- I don't think she does realize that... hence the show's quality now 😆 Thank you so much! 🤗

Tell me about it... I make a great team with Gemini's however, me and my mommy are best buddies 😳 Goes against the astrological rules but 😆

Regarding smrth Bhai, I did recieve a virtual pat on my back for coming up with a theory that fits in nicely with the release of Kumud at Sundargiri. I call it 'Three Mothers Theory' (credit to happychappy for the name). It talks about this 'binds' upon Kumud placed for her to really make a go of her marriage. Saraswati's we have already talked about, second is Saubhagya Devi, who has so many hopes pinned on Kumud that she will reform Pramad, and third is Guniyal's renown as "an ideal homemaker" that her daughter will have to live up to. Societal expectations are already there. So Kumud is binded "three-ways" and she has been 'righted' by two crutches: Saras (his 'dhokebaazi') and fate (for playing such a cruel turn upon her). These two decisions she has both accepted and taken ownership for, they in turn provide her 'strength'. Now both thrice-binded, and steadily 'supported' she is all ready to make a go of mission reform Pramad. And smrth Bhai, said, in Sundargiri, these three women appear to liberate Kumud from their respective binds on her 😳

some astrological rules say Gemini and Leo cannot really work together... we proved them wrong, Toni and I did... so not all of it is true... surely there's more than stars controlling us! 😊

Oh my goodness, well then... I've been talking for absolutely no reason! I had no idea that all this amazing musing was going on... I'm absolutely enlightened and this makes perfect sense... Hats off to you, Happychappy, and Samarth bhai! 😳 👏 👏

And it's all a payal and a kamarbandh that allow this to happen... amazing isn't it? 😊

Yep, sure you did. The birthday thread is a stellar testament to the wrongness of the stars 😳

Yes Veera, amazing how such innocuous elements have taken a life of their own. As you say have become, almost characters... Hats off to the SC writers who think this all up, we're only following their lead 👏 And you are depriving CB too, of your amazing insights... 😭

And we sure did now, too! Look at this undeniable chemistry we have 😆 🤣
Did you hear that stars? Even Ivy ji says you can be wrong. 👏 😆

Indeed they have...they come in forms of life despite lifelessness, or as add-ons to the main leads... absolutely amazing 😲
Not everyone is able to follow such a lead, though, Ivy ji. I would have never been able to figure that out myself 😳

Awww... I need to make a habit of popping in more than just once a week 😆 Will surely drop by to give my two-cents... which tend to rarely be phenomenal, but thank you! 🤗
