What is it with "Saraswatichandra" and its payalein and kamarbandhs always ending up reoccurring like old characters within this show? 😲
We all know that Saras was attached to Saraswati's payalein--after all, he did carry them all the way back to Ratnanagiri.
And we also know that Kumud's kamarbandh was the first thing that drew him in. But what do they both represent? They both carry the ehsaas of two different women in his life, both of which he holds dear to him. They mean so much more than simply chiming bells and added beauty to the show: they semi-symbolize who Saras is as a character. Ehsaas means so much to him, and the way they symbolize the most important ehsaas-es of his life show just how important they are to the rest of the storyline...
But that payal--which now adorns Kumuds feet, and that kamarbandh--which is in Kusum's possession surely must be playing a key role in the future.
In fact, I'm starting to look at them as game pieces: the way these two chiming possessions ever-change ownership is amusing. Because on one hand, we can take their constant shifting of ownership in a negative light, and assume that the novel's ending will be the show's fate. Or, we can look at them as unpredictable clues to the future... A new light on the inner dimensions of the character of Saras: directly how he feels, and what he thinks.
It'll be interesting to see what else these payalein and this kamarbandh have in store for Saras... ultimately, they are alongside him wherever he goes, and I think they might have a larger meaning to them as the plot progresses (hopefully, it progresses to please more than the average TRP Aunty) 😆
Feel free to add your musings 😳 😃
Bravo, Veera. That bold bit is simply superlative 👏 They really are game-pieces, and the way that anyone can now use them, in the case of Kamarbandh especially, is very portentous.
I did make some observations regarding payal... Posting it here, if I may 😳:
The best part however was the payal. A very vague marker but. It needs to be re-visited again for to make sense. Few thoughts: with what "haq" was Kumud wearing that payal, technically a 'shagun' from Saraswati? Why was the significance & provenance of the payal reinforced with a flashback & with Saras' utterly heartwrenching utterance, "Maa", too boot. Thereby "exposing" it as Saraswati's? Why now, when both Saras & Kumud are resolved to 'separate'? It would mean that at the point (interaction with goons) she was bereft of all markers (mangalsutra etc and all wealthy trappings associated with the BD family) except the one delineating her as Saras'. Another curious parallel has also been brought to light with the re-intro of payal. A payal secure & resplendent around her leg. While a mangalsutra sullied, torn, broken that refuses to stay at its rightful place. Also read the payal as a "shackle"... In a positive sense. It will bind her feet & refuse to let Kumud literally "move on". Despite both her & Saras' resolve. It is a bind that made its way into Kumud's hand by fate. By the same fate that dealt her such a cruel hand. She opted to wear it out of her own choice. And removing it will not be that easy. Paradoxically, her marriage binds her no longer. Those 'shackles' have been loosened, erased and taken off, time and over. Rather, the 'bind' which now holds Kumud is the implicit, the "ehsaas" in her heart & the truth in her soul does. The payal which she wore out of her own volition. A 'shackle' she embraced. Today was a fleeting and impactful acknowledgement of that.
And this bit, regarding kamarbandh's significance as a 'game-piece':
Second, Kalika already hinted to P at Navin ji, and Kumud being 'intimate'... The way she added that they were left alone to come home and after that 'kamarbandh' came into Navin's possession, she deliberately skewed facts to incite, because Kalika had once before, found kamarbandh in Navin's possession as well. She does not know, per se, whether it is Kumud's like she outright alleged, but she is taking some risky bets here, just to see reactions. And she is scoring, I would say. Bringing that kamarbandh in, just because Kumud upped her by making P come to the party... She goes and finds something she already knew was in Navin's room. At this point she is not certain of its provenance. So she takes a shot in the dark. And Kusum, claims the article as hers. Hence, Kalika hits bulls-eye. There is no way it can be Kusum's because then Navin should not have had it from before. So, now by Kusum's admission and Kumud's silent acquisience, Kalika knows kamarbandh is Kumud's. Crucially, kamarbandh is the first concrete evidence to link Saras and Kumud, right from the very beginning of Kumud's marriage. I present Exhibit A. This is huge, I would venture.
She finds it when she cleans Saras' room in the 2 August epi. Saras snatches it away from her hands, being the precious thing it was. His expression was totally 'caught out'. And now, Kalika knows that precious thing belongs to Kumud and Kumud only. She also knows that the three (Kumud-Saras-Kusum) are co-conspirators. No wonder Kalika's akad to Kumud. She is on much steady ground, while the rock strata has already starting dislodging from under Kumud's feet. But as long as Kumud feels she is making head-way with P, she is gonna be in a bubble with blinkers on. The day she finally 'removes' and 'gets out' it will be too late.
