Saraswatichandra's Kumud is Bhansali's 'tribute' to Aishwarya Rai?

The character Kumud seems to have been designed as Bhansali's favourite heroine

Kumud seems to be an amalgamation of Nandini and Paro of HDDCS and Devdas in the way she dresses and moves around. And Saras seems to be a mix of Ajay and Salman's characters in HDDCS. He has shyness, restraint, lack of expressiveness yet deep empathy like Ajay Devgan's character and gets passionate or violent with his love like Salman's character in HDDCS. He has deep love in his heart and also hidden pain just like Ajay and Salman of HDDCS (one had pain of not being accepted by the one he married, another had pain of losing his father earlier and later losing his lady love, whereas in serial, Saras had pain of losing his mother tragically).

The two bitchy women in Saras' house are like the ones in Devdas (his mom and his bhabhi who were forever conspiring and gossiping).

There is a lot of familiarity in SC and its characters and Bhansali's previous films.

The girl's family being jovial and having tendency to break into song and dance every now and then was there in all of Bhansali's films from Khamoshi to Devdas!

And I sure don't like this predictable, typical Bhansali-ism touch in this show. I had hoped for it to be original and fresh.

I remember reading an interveiw of Bhansali's where he said the channel wanted the show to be a mix of devdaas and HDDCS. For me Gautam's charecter is definetely somthing i have never seen on tv before 😊

Well I agree Kumud get ups and treatment of her character is inspired by typical bhansali types

As for saras i will say he is a more emphasized version of typical Indian tv goody good male genere who have never been emphasized in the show but r always there by side of heroin or mom ...

Coz till now what either the indian tv shows emphasise saas and bahu or bad boy cum arrogant types male turned into good good boy by there lady love ...its Saras who seems to be an exception !!

if channel requested that then may be they requested mt bhansali to make kumud and saras to get together at the end instead of separation.😊hope they request him to not to make kumud marry someone else because the viewers don't want that to happen. it would truly break my heat not only saras.

Its seems like so. Kumud's charecter is a perfect blend of Nandini and Paro. So, yes this charecter surely seems like a tribute of SLB to Ash.

Channel told him to make the show like this? And he even agreed? Damn! 😲

So what's that soch nayi concept that SP keeps shouting from rooftops? Their tagline should be Rishta wohi, soch WOHI! 😃

We viewers keep longing for something new, fresh to watch on TV. Whereas channels want to serve only old win in seemingly new bottle! Nonsense!

I wish SLB hadn't agreed to their demand/suggestion and done his own thing with full creative freedom. Or did he also undermine brains of Indian TV audience and think he just needed to make khichdi of his old films and dole it out in name of remaking some classic? 😕

Frankly speaking SLB's typical SLB-ism is beginning to get frustrating - be it in his movies or this show. He better try to reinvent and stop being so damn predictable or else he'll go the Subhash Ghai way (whose style had become so predictable that one didn't even need to know title or read credits of the film! Just from a random song or scene you'd know it's a Ghai picture!).

IMO, Khamoshi was his most natural and least "affected" film. All other films have been derivative, emotionally manipulative and had typical SLB touch (his obsession with decor, surroundings, so called psychologically mysterious characters, typical woman running around, bitchy old women or men, a predictable Bhansaliesque style of BGM and rest of the blah blah!).

My opinion on SC had changed after its first week. But now I feel my initial impression was not off the mark either.

Having read about the original story and seen the film starring Nutan, I had lot of expectations from this serial to be hatke. But reservations did creep up and have only increased now...I guess SC is just a name then. No?

SLB can do whatever he wishes with his WORK, his creativity. Everyone gets inspired by others at some point...he is just inspired by his own. More than half of Indian soaps have followed the HDDCS plot. Now even if SC does remind you of HDDCS and Devdas, the fact is that you won't have seen such treatment or execution on Indian television before. There are so many other pathetic shows around. At least this one has substance and it's only JUST begun. I really don't understand the long-winded criticism of a new show which is barely a month old. Surely you could write a book on the other shows?

Kumud has traits of Nandini and Paro but she's also her own character and one that at least I haven't seen on Indian TV. Easy to criticise, harder to appreciate.
