Is the show a true adaptation of the book/movie?

The show is doing well because they are focusing on the romance between Saras and Kumud but if the book and the movie are anything to go by this show will become very very sad very fast so is this show just inspired by the book Saraswatichandra or is it a true adaptation of the book???

I hope so too because the romance between Kumud and Saras is awesome and I hope Starplus has the good sense not to follow the book but its an SLB show and SLB does not like to make happy movies/shows be it Black, Guzarish.
