Suicide is too easy a storytelling trope used by TV wallas. I am afraid, there is no running away from it. I am not saying I approve of it, far from it, but I am willing to suspend my annoyance for the sake of drama. So, I didn't have a problem with that at all.

As always technically, the cinematography etc was brilliant.

I liked Saras today, finally there is insight into why he is the way he is. I thought Gautam was very good, he had to flit between various emotions and did well. I agree with you about Jennifer, her expression towards the end was kind of blah. But so far whatever I have seen of her, she is not at all good with emotional scenes. She does the pouting and heckling pretty well though. Very naeka, as the Bengalis would say 😆

Ya, I think Gauti is really doing well, his expressions in the lake scene, his smile when he saw kumudsundari's face, his anger all were really well done.

Haven't seen Jen earlier, but today she was little pheeka

1. Nice romantic moments, Saras sees her face , the hand holding was cute

2. Kumudsundari dares him to go into the lake to get her kite, not realizing that it Is the same lake where his mother had committed suicide

3. Saras tormented by old memories, is about to drown when Dukhba saves him

4. Saras is angry with kumudsundari for taunting him

5. Dukhba scolds kumudsundari and makes her realize the gravity of her prank against Saras

Chanku chemistry - 7/10

Acting quotient - Jen - 6/10 - her expressions when she finds out about the history of the lake were inadequate, she did not look shocked enough to me

Curiosity quotient - 6/10 - will Saras forgive kumudsundari ?

Dialogue of the day - patang Kati hai par kisi ke hath na lagne doongi

Closing comments

1. What's with all the mothers committing suicide?

I know lots of courageous women locked in loveless marriages, who draw their strength from their children.

To glorify suicide as the way out of problems is unethical.

It is the last resort of a desperate person, yet our serials do not take it seriously.

I do not think in the original novel his mother committed suicide, this was one adaptation I strongly

dislike, no not just dislike , condemn.

For this very reason I will give the overall epi a rating of 5/10

2. I also did not like kumudsundari today, she was so consumed in her own pride that she taunted him

needlessly

3. So tomorrow he slams the door in her face, I know someone else who did that a lot and I love him

dammit!

I agree with you completely here. I also thought Kumud could have done better in the expression dept... actually in most places... But definitely when she finds out about Saras's past.

Gautam portrayed Saras brilliantly. I am liking GR better with each episode.

And lastly... I too am biased with the other show that had an arrogant lead and now looks like - a similar past.. :) but all I can say is SC is turning out to be a good show so far and it does have a fantastic director in SLB... am looking forward to seeing how the story will unfold but I am sure it will be handled well...

well sucides r the task of cowards i agree ...but here they by no means gloryfing it instead they r showing it from the point of veiw of a child who saw his mother succumbing to the unlimited sorrow of a bad marriage ...thats why saras said no for marriage coz he felt there is nothing like a bad marriage as it leads to sorrow which killed his Mom

In future also u will see he will always be there for Kumud when he finds her in a bad marriage facing the same mistreatment and sorrow which his mother faced and at last killed her

Ya, agree with you, it is turning out well, and Gauti is a pleasant surprise, he is quite good, pleasing to the eye and emotes well!

And the romance is also good, I am sure SLB will not disappoint us in that

But whenever they want to show hero's pain, why only through his mothers suicide?

I mean kumudsundari will now understand why he was so anti marriage, as his mom committed suicide, that's CVs taking the easy way out,

Almost all bad marriages are because both partners could not adjust with each other, vidyachatur does not seem to have any bad feelings against his friend about saraswati's suicide, infact he remembers them quite fondly together.

But mom committed suicide , as dad was horrid is taking a simplistic view of the situation, hence my annoyance.
