Chapter 10:
Kabir sat down next to Rachna, facing her. Though he had met her just two days ago, he was really seeing her today, at this moment. It seemed like the past few months had been extremely taxing for her. She had lost a lot of weight; he could her skin was stretched tightly over her bones. Her skin had lost its healthy glow and had attained a sickly, greyish undertone. Her playful eyes, which used to shine with happiness, were now just dark abysses of gloomy turmoil. As much as it hurt him to see her so miserable, he couldn't forget the torture that she had made him go through in these past few months.
"It hurts the worst when the person that made you feel so special yesterday, makes you feel so unwanted today. You gave me up so easily. You walked away without ever looking back...without giving any explanations. But no matter how hard I try, I can't unlove you. I can't move on because your fingerprints are still on my heart and your voice still resonates down to my toes. Your smile still lives in my eyes and every time my mind wanders, it goes directly to you. I can't forget the way your lips felt pressed against mine or the way you looked when you were asleep next to me. I can't forget the way you made everything just seem okay. I can't unlove you...and it's killing me."
Rachna's heart shattered as she heard him say that. She had moved away from his life to protect him from this pain, but it seemed as though her actions had actually caused him the most pain. She opened her mouth to say something but her throat was tight with sadness; the words just wouldn't come out. Hearing silence from her end, Kabir took a shaky deep breath and continued.
"11 months and 3 days. I've been living with only one thought...one prayer...one hope for all these days; the hope that you would come back...the hope that my love would be strong enough to make you realize that we're meant to be. But today, even that hope has been shattered..."
He couldn't go on; the lump in his throat was too big. He was on the verge of breaking down. One more word and he wouldn't be able to keep himself together.
Rachna didn't know what to say. Sorry just seemed too small of a word, it just wasn't enough. Leaving him had been the toughest decision of her life, but she had managed to hold herself together. She had been living with the thought that he would be better off without her...without knowing the bitter truth. But her actions had shattered him...turned him into a shell of the person he used to be. And she realized that today, seeing him like this. But the worst part of it all was that she could do nothing to fix the mess that she herself had caused. A thick silence filled the room, for neither knew what to say.
Rachna sighed loudly, releasing the breath that she didn't realize she had been holding. She walked towards the wall of bookcases that were lined with books and pulled out an ornately bound, leather-covered book. Sitting back in her seat, she held out the book towards Kabir. He took it without looking at her and opened it to the first page. He recognized her writing immediately, the slanted, curvy script and the I's that she dotted with hearts.

Yes yes I know it was short but it is all I had time to write today. I will try to post the next update as soon as possible though. What did you think of this chapter? And btw, yes that is my handwriting. 😃
